I was acquaintances briefly with a guy a few years ago who went to this organisation which believed that homosexuality was wrong, although I think this particular organisation went for celibacy rather than actual conversion to heterosexuality which I'm guessing wouldn't be a problem under new legislation. He was a friendly guy, seemed pretty clear what he wanted and certainly not the sort of person who would be classed as vulnerable. He was just seeking his own idea of truth (which ultimately in my view would be crap) and would like to think it was his life, his choice. Wonder what has happened to him now.

Mind you, I do hear the strength of feeling from some of this- I just like to think that over 18 people can make their own choices and am genuinely surprised that there seems to be a large number of adults who are at risk in such a way in 2022 where there is a whole internet to give the correct and scientific view. My earlier comments about if we go for this we shouldn't exclude trans people (which Johnson is trying to do so they can play the 'OMG Starmer and Labour will change all your childrens gender moral panic") really stand as I would think they would be far more vulnerable.

But many of the methods these places use is both physical and psychological torture. Both as an adult and a child. You don’t enter willingly into this, even as an adult, it’s through pressure from society or from a religious fundamentalist yelling every day that there is something wrong with you and that you can be fixed. Both are entirely 110% factually incorrect.

A lot needs to go into changing the attitudes of the structures that funnel people down this path also, but it is absolutely right to cut off the destination and make it illegal in all cases for all people. There are zero benefits from doing it. You cannot change who you fundamentally are and these „therapies“ use cruel methods to literally try to torture it out of you. They have high suicide rates and have a „success“ rate that is effectively zero. It is an abhorrent and disgusting practice that has no place in a modern society

Very well said. There is no place in our society for oppressive therapy practices such as conversion therapy. It should also cover trans people too but that would be too much to ask from the Tories.

Former Tory minister (now peer) Eric Pickles was giving evidence to the Grenfell Tower enquiry today. At the end he referred to "...the nameless, I think it's 96 people who were killed in the Grenfell fire".

Seventy-two people died. Every one of them was named. The number of Hillsborough victims was recently increased from 96 to 97.

He also referred several times (by name) to a three-week-old baby killed in a different fire in 2009, saying that she would be thirteen now and that the enquiry was about her.

Yet another Tory showing a total lack of respect by failing to make sure he knew the basic facts before saying anything.

Of course they are not going to resign or get any trouble over it are they? But am pleased that Sunak seems to have blown his chances so quickly and dramatically in such short time span.
Boris Johnson is the first sitting Prime Minister in history to have broken the law.
Normally we’d see resignations by now but I’d honestly be shocked at this point if we did.

More accurately, the first to have been charged with braking the law

Absolutely zero chance of it.

Zero chance anyone resigns, at best the backbenchers apply a little more pressure, but they are so lucky the news is also dominated by Ukraine, it's so easy to just wash the hands and get on with it. Does seem a little like someone from the Tories has done a right hatchet job on Sunak.
It’s a very slippery slope letting this go. I know there are ‘more important’ things going on but this is still very important. It basically means this lot cannot be trusted with anything important.

Johnson is a lying barstard. He needs to go. His behaviour and his colleagues has been unacceptable and he has lied and tried to cover it up all along. Him and none of his shambolic party can be trusted and giving a half hearted apology now simply doesn’t wash.

I suspect he won’t be forced into a no confidence vote right now due to other factors like Ukraine but we still have the Sue Grey report which could add more momentum. This is seriously damaging for him and his party and let’s hope this leads to them be voted out at the next election.

I think even without Ukraine it would have gotten swept under the rug. They're master's at it...

Yeah they are masters at it, but it's harder when you've actually been found guilty of breaking the law. And you now even have people who were opposoing him in the Party saying now is not the time. I know it's rough but look at all the pressure Sunak and his wife were put under - eventually they caved as the story wasn't going away.

But the chance of these backbenchers applying any type of pressure on him is laughable. They said wait for Sue Grey and now it's conveniently Ukraine, Ukraine, Ukraine. Plus the polls aren't THAT bad for them for a mid term government so not much from electorate. As for his behaviour being unacceptable that shark jumped long time ago.

There is slightly hopeful news in that the Tories war on trans people doesn't look like being the huge success they were planning according to initial polling. https://www.pinknews.co.uk/2022/04/12/conve...-boris-johnson/

And surely the cost of living crisis will damage them ad infinitum especially as they have gone ahead with that NI increase.

So maybe later in the year this will be reflected properly in the polls (although I am sick as anyone here of waiting whilst that absolute crook getting away with everything yet again)

I'm hoping the recent events will translate into an absolute bloodbath come the local elections. Sunak and his wife, to partygate and the ongoing cost of living crisis. I feel that unless they do something, things will get quite bad later this year with the energy price cap going up again in October.

Actually, as someone who despises Johnson, I have to acknowledge his actions over Ukraine have been pretty decent and the situation could weirdly emulate that of Churchill. We may see him cling on until the war resolves itself before the voting public resoundingly tells him to do one.
Didn't he do that mainly for the photo opps with Zelensky in his combat gear? But I agree it was the right thing even if it was for the wrong motives.
