August 10, 201511 yr None of their songs have been good though. They are completely manufactured and don't have any proper talent. They are Simon Cowell's pop puppets. Have you seen them perform? Check them out when they're on tour near you next time.. You might be surprised.. Their gig in Helsinki was the best I've been to this summer. Great entertainers. Plus, the single broke Spotify records, it's doing its job. Edited August 10, 201511 yr by SKOB
August 10, 201511 yr Dr. Dre outselling the rest of the top 5 combined without a physical release is impressive! I do wonder if it would have sold even more if it was still called 'Detox' though :P
August 10, 201511 yr Sorry, bad wording on my part. I understand the meaning, but the phrase doesn't make sense to me. It's just a pun from word association. Like 'Make like a tree and leave', because trees have leaves, not that trees are known for evacuating any areas by will. And of course, "Let's Get It On" is a song about making love that is heavily associated with that in popular culture. So in short, it's just saying 'let's have sex'. August 10, 201511 yr Wait, do they still do an R1 show on the update? I thought it was scrapped permanently...
August 10, 201511 yr Author Wait, do they still do an R1 show on the update? I thought it was scrapped permanently... Yes... but its only 15 mins long at 5:30pm (Mondays), its a bit pointless now.

And of course, "Let's Get It On" is a song about making love that is heavily associated with that in popular culture. So in short, it's just saying 'let's have sex'. It is still a poorly worded lyric though. The name 'Marvin Gaye' is being used as a verb which makes no sense (of course you can understand what it means, but it sounds clunky and cringeworthy).
August 10, 201511 yr I think this is more of an exception than 1D are tbh, it does seem that most OA/OS singles drop on week #2 (particularly as 1D are a fanbase oriented act, at least with regards to the first week), whereas Calvin has actually gone against the grain and is doing better in week #2 and so on! I think it totally depends on the artist and the demographic of the artist/s releasing, see the Weeknd and any number of other acts. 1D obv would have an opposite affect.
August 10, 201511 yr I can see why people are highlighting the 1D drop (which has shocked me a bit though i imagine it will recover by Friday :( ...) and as everyone knows I'm not their biggest fan at all but each to their own if we all liked the same music we'd all be boring... They will stabilise once the video kicks in and airplay increases but I do think its strange how Calvin's OA/OS has actually increased (no doubt helped by the video release) and had the same Radio 1 support as 1D but he's climbed every week which I guess shows how having a big fan base can be an advantage in its first week but those casual listeners hear tracks at different times which is why Calvin's had a more stable run! Anyway, glad to see Tough Love charting as long as it goes top 30 I'd say that's a good result given its had no support
August 10, 201511 yr It is still a poorly worded lyric though. The name 'Marvin Gaye' is being used as a verb which makes no sense (of course you can understand what it means, but it sounds clunky and cringeworthy). It makes as much sense as using "Google" or "Hoover" as a verb. It's just more unusual. And in an awful song obviously.
August 10, 201511 yr Yes... but its only 15 mins long at 5:30pm (Mondays), its a bit pointless now. They only play the top 3
August 10, 201511 yr I'm not One Direction's biggest fan because they're not my kind of music (though they've done two great single releases in a row now!) but I don't think you can say that they outright have no talent, even if performing was all that they did and they had no input into writing, and it's undeniable that they're the biggest boyband in the world right now and will be for the forseeable future. I'm surprised to see Drag Me Down fall out of the top 5 though, their streaming has remained quite decent so I thought they'd only fall a few places. It's hardly a fail when they got to number one with the song regardless. It's good to see Peanut Butter Jelly just out off the top 40 at number 41, I think it's going to squeeze in by Friday!

Great entertainers. Plus, the single broke Spotify records, it's doing its job. No, I haven't seen them perform and never would. It's bad enough seeing them on the TV or hearing them on the radio. They really aren't my thing at all.
August 10, 201511 yr Yes... but its only 15 mins long at 5:30pm (Mondays), its a bit pointless now. I do wish they'd bring the midweek chart page back. :(
August 10, 201511 yr It makes as much sense as using "Google" or "Hoover" as a verb. It's just more unusual. And in an awful song obviously. Google and hoover have become verbs through common usage, I'm sure they sounded just as clunky and cringeworthy when the first people started using them (see also: people trying to make 'Bing' as a verb happen. Yes those people exist). Maybe using Marvin Gaye as a verb will catch on and it'll sound less weird a few years down the line but I don't see that happening
