So some basic is ok but others aren't?

People stanning for the Saturdays are calling other acts basic? The irony!

 

They themselves may be basic and their output has been very hit and miss, but they've had some brilliantly produced/Writen tracks in their time by the likes of Xenomania, Tove Lo, MNEK. Though they've had some crap songs, I wouldn't say their music was overly basic. I find Jess Glynne's output generally more generic.

Jess imo does not do this and her success absolutely baffles me as does the complete adoration this forum seems to have for her.

She's overrated as f*** and nothing extraordinary, which isn't necesarily a bad thing, but in Jess' case it is, given she is about to snatch some record.

Hold My Hand, Rather Be and Real Love are absolute jams though.

 

And as for unextraordinary people gaining success, we've had years of f***ing Ed Sheeran and Cheryl Cole having huge hits. Not to bash them so much but I'm just finding this hatred for Jess Glyne way OTT considering what music is deemed good in general.

However my point is that this isn't what you and Lee were calling her out on. You kept going on about her being basic and have now back-pedalled.

Yes, but the reasons changed. You've now brought in some decent reasons for not liking her which is great. But the initial 'she's so basic' was just laughable considering.

I like "Hold My Hand" and "Don't Be So Hard on Yourself". Jess' featured #1's, not so much.

For me Jess isnt a great vocalist (listen to her Live Lounge), but she and the production teams get the most out of what she has.

What she has had is a string of really strong pop/dance songs- and that is where the market is right now.

Nah, I hope the funeral effect gives her first EVER UK number 1 album. :P

Great to see Jess on course for her 5th #1! Hopefully she'll remix her next single with a popular rapper and come for that 6th #1 ala "Bad Blood" :kink: I really like Jess. She seems a sweet person, generally gives good live performances (although she struggled with some of the "Hold Me Hand" live performances") and I have really loved the music she's released so far.

 

Cilla's funeral was today, so hope that'll give her album a big enough boost to secure the top spot come tomorrow.

A shame Real Love collided with Band Aid release week otherwise Jess would be beating Cheryl's record tomorrow. Still, I'm sure it's only a matter of time before she churns out another feature.
