Ohhhhh so the Flo Rida sales are worldwide?!

No, his record is just for the USA, as are the Adele sales in that article. (It's including all the album pre-orders as sales for the song though).

So that it means it sold just about 1M, minus the preorders. Insane, I doubt anything like this will happen for another 20 years.
1.112m downloads in the US this week and so debuts at #1. It is the biggest selling song (in one week) in soundscan history, almost doubling the previous record. Also smashed streaming records in the US with 61m+ streams.

Home Run should have had those figures. Absolute tune

Still prefer RITD and SLY, but as one of the rare loons on here, this isn't too bad at all.
I find it riveting that they went with Rolling in the Deep for the first single of 21 knowing that Someone Like You was on the album. That was a very risky decision but I think I heard Adele pushed for that.
I'm guessing that they just wanted to save 'Someone Like You' for the BRITs? (A very good decision ~)

Then again, her even being on the BRITs was a bit strange since she wasn't up for any awards so I guess they'd probably not have known about it that early. Not like 'RITD' was a bad choice anyway!

(Meant to respond to these over a week ago but never got around to it oops. Might still be of interest anyhow!)

I remember reading in an interview with the head of her label (I think!) that the original plan was for 'Set Fire To The Rain' to lead the album, but Adele wanted 'Rolling In The Deep' (and even considered naming the album that), which took a lot of convincing as it was seen as a risky choice in terms of commercial radio getting on board (lol). 'Someone Like You' wasn't technically made the second single until it blew up so much right after the BRITs (or possibly just beforehand due to the hype around Adele's performance?), where it was seemingly chosen as the track she'd perform so as to showcase the album/create a big moment rather than as the next single, as RITD was still going strong. So it replaced SFTTR, which was pushed back again. The original rough plan was that 'Someone Like You' would be saved for a release at the end of the year, as its potential was certainly recognised (albeit significantly underestimated like the entire campaign).

I'm nearly sure everything I've said is correct, but is likely pieced together from different interviews/sources!

Proof that Adele (and Nicki Minaj) can ruin (possible) relationships:

RITD is more of a crossover hit too as it ventures into more genres and has more appeal. I think Take It All aside it was also the first song written for the album so I can see why Adele would want it release over SFTTR :kink:

But according to Wikipedia :

Candle in the wind 1997 : Released on 22 September 1997, "Candle in the Wind" debuted at number one on the Billboard 100, with first week sales at 3.5 million copies.
