Sax is still OA/OS despite the leak, that doesn't change the strategy  It's an absolute banger though and I'm so hopeful it will smash.

Especially as it didn't even actually leak. It was released in the likes of NZ and Australia. Applying previous logic, nearly nothing would be OA/O

Grace's Australian hit "You Don't Own Me" is on Now 92 - and a reliable source tells me it's going to be in a big Christmas ad, about to be announced. Would be good to see it be a big hit here.

John Lewis? :o

That would be a bit of a let down

Nobody's denying that's obvious but it isn't all about chart positions any more. Anyway this conversation has been discussed to death on here I feel :)

The strategy is failing on sales as well as chart positions though. And that's why it'll be scaled back next year. Just watch.

John Lewis? :o

Nope. That was announced today as "Half The World Away", sung by Norwegian singer AURORA. Ad out tomorrow.

Lots of probbable top 10 entries next week then.

Take Me Home, In2, Sax, untitled Coldplay track, Coming Home.

We'll probably have a bit of a clear-out, though I'm not as confident that Sigma/Rita and Jess Glynne will make the top 10 next week (Jess will certainly do it the week after, I'd imagine).

AURORA as well possibly (I know the last time John Lewis used an unknown (Slow Moving Millie) they didn't do much chartwise but the ad has become a bigger deal since then).

Oh! Very happy to hear that, I really enjoyed the songs by AURORA that I have heard.

The only other big ad's I can think of are TK Maxx and Marks and Spencers

Gabrielle Aplin was basically unknown at the time also tbf and that didn't hinder The Power of Love's chances. I'm not sure it'll go top 10 this week (busy week + streaming) but I think it will eventually.

Nobody can really prove this though. I think most of these songs that have ended up missing the top 20 that would have made it with a held back release have sold about what they would have done anyway, just with a shorter chart run.

Sure there are probably exceptions, like the Blonde song (maybe Foxes too although that would have crashed and burned after a low top 40 peak anyway - so what's the point?), which probably would have been a hit with radio support if it was held back, but what's to guarantee it would have got radio support with this strategy, and even if it had, what's to say it wouldn't have just gone 18-39-74-OUT, accruing probably only a few more sales than it would have done anyway.

Record companies really need to get over these inflated chart positions somehow determining a 'hit', in what world does this sort of chart run look good on anyone? Sure the media will have a field day with a No.28 debut for a seemingly major star but they'll have just as much fun with a song sliding from 10-40 in the second week...

Adele performing on The One Show tonight at 7pm so that should only help solidify her position at the top.

It just got premiered... I wonder how much effect this will have if any.

Having just heard it, Sax sounds like a good Pop song that's been well produced and executed. Obviously going to soundtrack the Christmas party season and wouldn't be surprise surprised to see it in the chart well into the New Year.

Sales are dropping quite heavily and pre-orders are by far not as high as last year or 2 years ago I fail to see why held back releases could have advantage again next year (when sales will drop more). So I will watch but it won't happen ;) (and good so imho)

Also the market needs a bit more time to adapt to this new situation.

They only showed the final chorus though which was disappointing. She sounded amazing nonetheless.
