I'm pleasantly surprised that 'Butterfly' lasted this long in the survivor (it's one of my favourites)! Far bigger hits have fallen before it.

 

'Butterfly' was the second single to be taken from the album of the same name (released in December 1997) but sadly it was a relative flop for Mariah. In the UK it peaked at #22, becoming her first single to miss the Top 20 since 1991, ending a consecutive run of 15 Top 20 singles. It did not chart in the US Billboard Hot 100 due to it not receiving a commercial release (essential to be eligible to chart at the time). This was due to an on-going conflict with her record label Columbia.
