23 Grace - You Don't Own Me (feat. G-Eazy) - 4-7-12-14-17-21-28-30-32-X-29-… (10+ non-consecutive weeks)

24 Britney Spears & Iggy Azalea - Pretty Girls - 1-1-3-3-9-18-18-26-34-33-40-X (11 weeks)

One of my most anticipated songs of the year kicks off this section. I was very excited for Britney and Iggy collaborating on Pretty Girls, I've loved Britney for as long as I can remember and Iggy has been a huge star for me over the past two years or so! Pretty Girls didn't disappoint when it premiered. It leaked while I was out seeing The Vamps, so when I checked my phone after, I was excited to get back home and hear it. I was hooked, although sadly it did get old quite quickly and didn't hold up as long as most Iggy songs do. It did give Britney her second #1 though, and Iggy her seventh (!). The song is quite clearly not a masterpiece in any shape or form but it's fun, and that's what Britney's best at doing I think. Iggy's raps just enhance the song for me and it just works so well as an overall package, I wish it was a bigger hit :(

Now to a song which will probably impact my EOY for two years running! I first heard You Don't Own Me in BJSC when Liam sent it, and I quite liked it but it didn't do a whole lot for me, getting only 3 points (so placing 13th in my rank). I heard it again on plug.dj and it grew on me, so I downloaded it and it just kept growing. It became a #4 hit in my chart and had a decent chart run. Fun fact: its #4 peak was behind three Conrad Sewell songs, so Grace and her brother made up the entire top 4 :magic: Its current UK success has led to a huge resurgence in my affections, leading to a #1 peak in my chart (after the cut-off point) and me loving it more than ever. Grace's killer voice (must run in the Sewell family) contrasts well with G-Eazy's raps and it works so well together as an overall package. I'm so excited for what Grace has to offer in the future!

Shaggy is one the best, most random hits of the year.

Massive :puke: at Pretty Girls though, my least favourite song of the year and I used to love Iggy as well.

21 One Direction - Perfect - 1-2-4-8-13-15-19-… (7+ weeks)

22 Shawn Mendes - Stitches - 34-15-18-23-34-X-24-3-5-8-15-17-23-30-37-… (14+ non-consecutive weeks)

I think my thoughts on Stitches are well documented around Buzzjack by now, but I'm gonna write an essay on it anyway. I first heard it when listening to Shawn's Handwritten album upon its release last April, and it was an album highlight but kinda forgot about it for a short while until it began impacting as a single. It made a small impact on my chart as I was enjoying it but not totally loving it. I revisited it a month or so after and fell in love, so it had a second gust of wind, taking it to a new peak of #3, Shawn's third top 10 hit in my chart. Recently, I've been loving it more than ever, and it's had a third gust up the chart (not reflected in the above run because it's post-cut off), repeaking at #1 only today in its 20th week. Stitches is such a well-crafted pop song. Shawn's voice is able to shine well with lots of light and shade, and it's insanely catchy. I don't think there's a pop song around right now that sounds like Stitches, so it's not hard to see why it's currently so popular. All I know is that I'm delighted at how huge it's become, well deserved because I bloody love the song, and Shawn as an artist too.

From a slow-burner to a more frontloaded release, Perfect became One Direction's 11th #1 single when released near the end of last year, shocking absolutely no-one. It didn't hold up as well as previous single Drag Me Down but it's had a respectable run still. Perfect is very similar to Taylor Swift's Style in terms of production and melody, and normally you'd think it's just a copycat song but you can tell its intention, particularly with Harry singing the lyric "if you're looking for someone to write your break-up songs about". I'm glad it's been another big hit for them, showing they really are the top group around. More to come on 1D shortly...

2 One Direction

You may have noticed by now that I'm a bit of a 1D fan :heehee: One Direction are my second favourite music act of all time, only behind Girls Aloud, and they come second in my artists for 2015 also. Hint: Girls Aloud are not #1 here also.

Late last year, 1D released the FOUR album, which is their best so far for sure, packed full of excellent pop songs that I've been loving the whole year through. I also bought tickets to see them live - more on that in a bit. Come March time, it was announced that Zayn had left the group. I wasn't really too shocked that he was the one who left, as someone who follows them closely it was clear to me that Zayn wasn't enjoying it (rather than Harry, who everyone thought would leave first - he quite clearly still enjoys 1D that I can see). Zayn was my least favourite anyway so I didn't feel ~too~ bothered oops. I could sympathise with Zayn fans on here though (poor Calum and Adam, turning into radical 1D trolls), if Harry left I'd be distraught.

Months later, the boys Beyoncé'd Drag Me Down onto iTunes and Spotify. I woke up at 9am on holiday and checked my phone, intending to go back to sleep after, to see that there was a BRAND NEW 1D single. I couldn't switch the laptop on quick enough. I'll go into more detail on Drag Me Down when it appears in the songs countdown but it's quite safe to say that I bloody love it.

Then came the news of the 1D break. I was slightly heartbroken but they've said about 500 times now that they're not splitting up, so I'm quite confident they'll return - there is literally nothing to suggest they won't at this stage. Even if it's just a Girls Aloud style reunion (the parallels between my two faves are quite strange) with a farewell tour and a Greatest Hits album, I'll be fine. This did make me even happier to have got tickets to see them live in September, however. So every cloud.

Seeing the group live for the first time was an incredible experience. I'd waited 5 years for that night, to see them live and hear some of the defining songs of my teenage years in an arena setting. It was one of my favourite concerts that I've been to, and I really hope I get the chance to see them again in the not too far future.

1D have been at the top of my affections more than ever this year and it's gonna be a quiet 2016 without them I think. Hopefully all four of them stay in the spotlight. Harry, Liam, Louis and Niall have inspired me and filled me with joy over the years, in particular Harry who is someone I look up to - not just for shallow reasons either. Thank you for the five years of amazing memories guys, I look forward to the reunion

(oh my god that was so soppy)

While I really loved Fancy in 2014, Pretty Girls is really awful  the vocals in the chorus in particular are just not good and I'm glad it flopped being a poor part 2 of Fancy :kink:

Perfect is better than their others this year at least, I'm growing to Stitches :o SongPop effect 8.*

Firestone and King are my top 2 of your top 20 and hope Bieber slays (lol of course he will here  )

Yesss at triple Years & Years action that final selection <3 The utterly fabulous 'Doing It' making it too.

I think with 1D they do have all intentions of doing something again, but I bet now that they branch off, there's schedules will be impossible to get together for a while. But I think they'll manage eventually.

Completely in shock tbh, I was entirely unaware of your love for 1D and you never said anything about still liking Stitches!

Nang Band to do very well hopefully!!! :w00t:

You Don't Own Me <3 Unovia slayage.

Looking at your 20 I'm really hoping Stronger does well, amazing track and one my faves of theirs.

Also hoping of course Bieber to do well (both in the 10 maybe?) and Luke Friend - a really impressive debut single that!

- Pretty Girls

- You Don't Own Me

- Wildest Dreams

- Perfect

Smaller *.* goes to:

- Lighthouse ( :snif: )

- Talk Me Down

- Stitches

I also like Wake Up somewhat. ny2

'Pretty Girls' is incredibly catchy but I'm afraid I find it so embarrassing for Britney too. I agree she's mostly all about fun pop tunes but they're usually a lot more imaginative than this. I can see this being left off her next album which I won't be upset about! :P

I much prefer the solo version but G-Easy does somewhat fit with 'You Don't Own Me' thanks to already quite hip-hop inspired verses, which all make the more poppy chorus even more glorious. 60s pop making a mini-revival what with this and 'Love Me Like You' smashing it! :D

In the age of dance music, I'm always pleased when there's a successful, solid pop song - nothing too serious, just focusing on catchy melodies and hooks - and 'Stitches' is living up to that. Would very much welcome it reaching #1.

19 Clean Bandit - Stronger - 5-9-15-19-13-17-20-20-23-25-25-29-31-33-31-X (15 weeks)

20 Years & Years - King - 8-10-8-4-7-9-11-18-16-21-27-27-32-33-37-X-35-X (16 non-consecutive weeks)

The first of four UK #1s in the top 20, and the first of three Years & Years songs there, King reaches a very respectable 20th in my EOY. The dance track with a soaring instrumental was an instant hit for me, and it became a bigger hit than I expected, getting 15 consecutive weeks top 40 followed by a one week re-entry. Olly's vocals really shine (:basil:) on this song, going hand in hand with that incredible instrumental. A defining hit of 2015 for sure and I am so glad it gave them a UK #1! Aside: it's a pretty good song to gallop to [/miranda]

Now to a song that originally featured Olly singing on! Perhaps sneaking up out of nowhere, Clean Bandit's Stronger wasn't a massive hit for me at first, but it proved to keep itself high in my affections over an extended period of time, not actually falling rapidly unlike many top 10 hits in 2015. Stronger is by far their most successful song in my chart, being their only top 10 hit, and it's easily my favourite too. I prefer the version with Sean Bass and Alex Newell on vocals, but the original with Olly Alexander is pretty good still. I think the lack of overplay from radio helped this song, it kinda killed Rather Be for me. I do wish it was a bigger hit though :(

PICK OF THE SECTION

Omg I've never seen the 'Stronger' video before, how fab! My neighbour Niel looks lovely, but he needs to tell Cortana to tell Grace to stop dancing tbh.

Yess, Y&Y and double yess that 'Shine' has come out on top of King, it's better. *nods*
