would be awesome if mariah could squeeze coldplay out of the top10 :heehee:

boo @ martin solveig dropping out of the 40 :snif: ~ alas it was to be expected :(

Because 1D's first two singles (Drag Me Down & Perfect) aren't at all tailor made for radio haha.

Where is Love Me Like You in the update today? Thanks

22 still. Sadly hasn't risen since yesterday despite jumping from 23 - 16 on iTunes yesterday. Damn streaming.

I hope Sia's Alive is not top 40 on Friday but she will be.

They clearly were, but I don't think they've connected with the audiences the way songs from their previous albums have.

There is somewhat a part of me that is not unhappy with Fleur East dropping out of the top 10. Syco (Simon Cowell) has completely favoured her over Ben Haenow for a long time. Simon should focus on his winners and try and show people you can be successful if you win the X Factor. Having a successful winner would help add some credibility to the show.

Perhaps a discussion for another thread but I don't really buy the idea that Syco has pushed Ben to the side in favour of Fleur in the way that a lot of people are making out. The single's release strategy definitely could have been more effective in terms of maximising impact but ultimately he was given a catchy, radio-friendly song with a high-profile feature, all of which aligns nicely with his core fanbase. The situation isn't comparable to a misstep/lack of effort like Matt Cardle's 'Run For Your Life' IMO, and something also has to be said for the song and Ben simply not connecting with the public like Fleur's 'Sax' has. Also, they made an absolute mess of Fleur's video, which looks like it cost about ten quid and was released after the song had been charting for a couple of weeks, so the label's level of investment isn't as unfair as has been claimed (i.e. they're also just regularly incompetent, regardless of the act involved)!

Ben performed his single on the Saturday X factor show which was going to clash with Strictly, it thus got only about 5m viewers which is low even for X factors standards these days. The Sunday results show always gets more viewers early on as it doesn't clash with Strictly. He has very obviously been sidelined and Fleur has very evidently been pushed.

It clashed for about 15 minutes. I'm fairly sure only Lauren, who was on first, performed during the clash. Ben's performance would not have been affected by it. Noah makes some very good points. Clearly, Second Hand Heart hasn't connected with the mass public for whatever reason, whereas Sax has.

It clashed with Strictly and it was Halloween night or Bonfire night, cant remember which. It was x factor's lowest rated live show in forever.

I do agree that 'Sax' was pushed harder than 'Second Hand Heart' was, plus it gained the necessary support and airplay from the get go that Ben struggled to get.

Also I didn't hear Ben's song on every single live show (and judges houses) and also used for the presenters to walk on to and I didn't see him randomly in contestants VT's telling them "this is what the show can do for you" like she won and was already a superstar. I also don't remember him getting his song in an ad with a large supermarket chain. Fleur also went onto A list playlists for Capital and radio 1 almost straight away (not sure of Syco's involvement there) Only Heart played Ben's song regularly. She has been pushed massively with everything in her favour and her album still won't make the Top 10. Tbh I think it would have done worse if released at a different time of year without the show to plug her every single week. I wouldn't be surprised if she didn't turn up on the final for one final push. And yes there was the graveyard Saturday slot for Ben...

What's done is done but I don't see how anyone can say she hasn't been massively favoured by Cowell and Syco. She is probably the most pimped and over hyped act from the show since Olly.

If I was Kylie I would have a price reduction 24 hours on Friday the day of her concert. Try get up the charts then when promo for Strictly kicks in put prices back to normal.

It is an xmas album it has these weeks to get as much money as possible as come Jan it will be being sold for peanuts.

hence stop selling it on Amazon at 12.99 and getting no sales and sell it at 8.99 and get 500 sales

Just to clarify, I agree that she and 'Sax' were pushed harder in the run-up to and after release - my point was that I think the overall label support for the two acts hasn't been as disparate as what's been claimed. I think Syco put considerable thought, money and effort into making Ben a success, instead of this idea that he's been completely sidelined in favour of Fleur from the off and was never a focus of attention. A song by a Syco act with the potential/mass appeal that 'Sax' has was always going to be rinsed by the show before and after it became a hit (somewhat similarly to 'Black Magic'), and I don't see why efforts to keep it selling always has to be interpreted as being to the detriment of Ben or evidence the label's essentially screwed him over. He's been given a level of backing that previous winners haven't received, and him and 'Second Hand Heart' simply failing to connect properly with the public has to be accounted for more in comparisons with Fleur's situation IMO.

Thanks for the measured reply but for me there is a discrepancy as they could easily have used SHH as much in the VT's and as a backing track, its also a catchy song. It just makes sense to me that a song will "connect" with the public more, if they hear it more and Sax was inescapable for weeks on end, sometimes twice at a time in ad breaks during XF and obviously at other times as well. I'm not saying the show shouldn't use the opportunity to promote its own acts but I am believer in favouring the winner and letting them have their moment. However I do realise this is not the first time a runner up has been pimped much more than someone who won the show (and by a large margin) Fleur also got to perform on the show the week of her release for maximum impact while Ben had to wait 2 weeks with no promo allowing things to stall. To me it was clear it was done to give Fleur the best possible chance. Anyhow I will leave it there :) Lets see how it pans out for them both in the future.

Think Ben has been a little bit unlucky with second hand heart! If Kelly clarkson had been able to promote with him we could of seen the song chart a little higher ! In my opinion I thought his X factor performance was weak in comparison to fleur! Don't think he's had a bad start but he just needs to have a second single that smashes it ! Sax had the backing of asda as well , she was right to delay her single by two weeks as it all came into place for her ! Also a top 20 album in such a busy time for albums is good going !

Can't believe Adele is still going to be number this week! Very happy for her !
