December 8, 201510 yr I don't see why anyone would swap better sales for a better peak though :P It's a bit of an odd suggestion.
December 8, 201510 yr I don't think Coldplay care about missing #1 when their sales are so huge. It could end up being faster-selling than Mylo Xyloto
December 8, 201510 yr I don't see why anyone would swap better sales for a better peak though :P It's a bit of an odd suggestion. Sometimes it sounds much better in the long run, five number one albums etc!
December 8, 201510 yr Is Sia Alive anywhere close to 40  #56 and outsold all of the positions above it up till (not including) #30. Any update on The Corrs album? :) #17
December 8, 201510 yr Any update on Pixie Lott - Platinum Pixie? http://img.pandawhale.com/post-33540-The-Grinch-gif-eating-glass-bo-l0a2.gif
December 8, 201510 yr Any update on Pixie Lott - Platinum Pixie? http://img.pandawhale.com/post-33540-The-Grinch-gif-eating-glass-bo-l0a2.gif Outselling Adele and Coldplay combined but demoted to the budget chart. :(
December 8, 201510 yr All these Grinch gifs  I kind of agree on what Hadji and Lee are saying tbf. They are probably sitting on piles of cash so really in their position I would choose the goal to get another #1 album than to gain more sales.
December 8, 201510 yr Outselling Adele and Coldplay combined but demoted to the budget chart. :( At least she's outselling Stooshe! <3
December 8, 201510 yr I kind of agree on what Hadji and Lee are saying tbf. They are probably sitting on piles of cash so really in their position I would choose the goal to get another #1 album than to gain more sales. That's the point I'm making. All six of their albums have gone to #1. This album missing out would ruin their streak of #1 albums. Oh well, let's just hope they do a Rihanna and climb to the top in the new year Edited December 8, 201510 yr by Hadji
December 8, 201510 yr I think the fact that they've chosen to release at Christmas means they're more interested in sales than position. They could easily have got a No 1 album in any week of the year if they had released Jan-Oct but they decided on December. They/ the record company are more concerned by overall sales for their last album falling well short of the million mark which all their previous managed to attain.
December 8, 201510 yr #48! Flop :drama: Bet Cowell can't wait to drop him - Really thought after hearing 'Second Hand Heart' that he might have managed a decent sized hit single and album
December 8, 201510 yr It's Coldplay's own fault that they're gonna miss #1 album. They should have waited till after Xmas to release their album. At least it sold more in 4 days than what Ghost Stories did in a whole week It depends on what's important. Sales or chart positions? Edited December 8, 201510 yr by Cauldron
December 8, 201510 yr A high selling album is FAR more beneficial for them/nearly anybody than a higher chart position in the long run I think. Few people will care how many number one albums they've had but the Xmas release will probably get this album into a good 300k more homes at least than it would have done with a summer release. That's better for their long term profile because radio will still deem them relevant for longer and any future releases will have more of a base to work from, with so many extra people that might think 'ah yes, their last album was great, I must buy this new one too' - especially after the relative 'flop' of Ghost Stories compared to their usual sales standards. Also, although Coldplay obviously have no trouble selling out gigs anyway, the more people that own an album, the more concert tickets they will sell and the more they will make from merchandise etc...
December 8, 201510 yr Obviously the singles chart is a different ballgame, as are fanbase acts/boybands/teen aimed acts, who can so easily be eaten up by the media if a single or album fail to debut in the top ten, but for a band of Coldplay's stature I think this is exactly the right strategy (well actually the right strategy would have been to release the week before Adele and scoop up sales AND the #1 but hey ho).
December 8, 201510 yr It depends on what's important. Sales or chart positions? You'd think chart positions would be more important to them because all their other albums reached #1
December 8, 201510 yr Perhaps Coldplay thought they would still get to #1 against Adele's third week of sales? Anyway, I agree that Coldplay will have a good chance of hitting #1 later on and that it was more important for them to get big sales following Ghost Stories' under-performance.
