Three lists are placed here, the main list only takes into account entries in the main contest (as spin-offs generally don't count to points totals) - but I've also compiled those including spin-off results.

 

Persephonian viewers will be interested to know they finished joint first with Ethanola in the best spin-off countries list. Ethanola also become joint first with Aeroche when main contest and spin-off scores are combined.

Wow, very glad to have had the (South) Danaelanda support so much this year! Very pleased you took so well to Travelling Light & Fortress, the former was a real gamble but such a captivating experience I couldn't not send it. I seem to have abandoned dance as of late oops, but I'm sure I'll return to it soon.

TBO IX

 

South Danaelanda put their best foot forward this year with two top 3 hits, which we hope will go through to the semi finals of TBO IX!

TheFatRat (feat. Laura Brehm) - Monody

 

one of our favourite artists of the year has got to be TheFatRat. he started the year with the excellent 'Monody', uploaded to YouTube just over a year ago now but we waited until January to send this. it made #4 in the official Danaelandan chart and #3 in the BJSC, behind the mighty Aeroche at #2 and a huge win for Deandria at #1. since then, TheFatRat made #2 in the Danaelandan chart with 'The Calling' and #6 with 'No No No'. we hope you vote for this now just as much as you did earlier this year.

 

Basto - Gregory's Theme

 

for our most recent entry we decided to do a lil throwback to 2011 with one of our favourite non-chart hits ever, 'Gregory's Theme' - a brilliant progressive house tune that is reminiscent of Swedish house music at the time (although Basto himself is actually Belgian). we had a feeling when we sent it that it would be a top 20 hit for us, but it surprised and went all the way to third place. hopefully all the fans of the song vote again in TBO and get this into the semis.

 

we would also appreciate any votes for our other tracks this year; Paperwhite 'Get Away', Maceo Plex 'Mirror Me', Mickey 'It's My Man', Croatia Squad 'Make Your Move', Avicii 'Dear Boy' and Steve James 'In My Head', though we imagine none of them have a chance of being nominated for the semi-finals as they all missed the top 20 in their respective contests.

TBO IX Review

 

'Monody' was the only of our entries to make it to the semi-finals, let alone the final, and finished in a very impressive 4th place. There were a low number of voters but a few of those that did vote were big fans of the song, which contributed to this success. Let's have a quick look at what beat us then.

 

Another big 'cult smash' finished in 3rd, namely 'Ilumbarada' by FSR Rontvia. Despite not voting Ethanola picked up 2nd place with former winner 'Free Tibet', and predictably the winner by a large margin was Yehesi's smash 'Bonbon'. The song didn't win its contest, losing out to 'Free Tibet' and 'You Got Me Baby', but has picked up a significant fanbase since. Including ourselves of course.

 

In Rejects we didn't quite repeat the success, with both of our entries missing the top 20. 'Aber' was the highest of our entries, despite performing the worst originally. It finished in 22nd. Our other DNQ 'Time To Say Goodbye' finished in 34th.

Congrats Dan! :cheer: Didn't see a top 5 placing for 'Monody' coming at all, but really pleased as it has grown on me a lot since BJSC 81 *.* Great results for the main TBO (the less said about Rejects the better :kink:)

Good to see that it's grown on people over the course of the year.

 

We're looking forward to BJSC 91 now and we'll be sending either of; energetic trance OR lush house. Can't really decide which to send so probably both of them in the first two contests.

Yeah, Aly & Fila are one of a few that still do the trance style that was popular then, really upbeat and melodic.

In Egypt (where Aly and Fila are from) and also Israel it seems to be still popular, here is a great example from Israel that I found that made my personal chart recently, it is sort of mixed with Middle Eastern music which is interesting. (The 7 minute version is most popular but I posted this one as the 7 min one has a massive non dance intro)

I found it on the Billboard Hot Club songs chart, a great place to find random underground dance tunes. If I was riding through the desert on a camel I would want to listen to this.
