Two Steps From Hell - Emerald Princess (feat. Chris Bleth & Merethe Soltvedt)


Released in tribute to Avicii, 'Emerald Princess' is a piece of two halves; starting off with a Lord of the Rings reminiscent orchestral instrumental before going full-out dance. TSFH/Thomas Bergerssen may have been entered three times before but not with anything like this so we hope it's a good discovery for y'all. It's our longest entry yet by some distance at eleven minutes long but it never drags. Take a listen and Vote Danæviia!

1st • 320 points

Our third entry as Danæviia only went and got the DNLD brand a second main contest victory! It becomes our 2nd most successful entry following our first win with 'Saving Light' by Gareth Emery, who was due to represent us again for the 75th anniversary before we found this song which felt more fitting for the occasion. Thanks especially to the five of you who gave us 18 and also five who gave us 15, which in addition with the one 13 gave us the most medal positions of any song in the final (and possibly a DNLD record too?). We also finished 2nd in the semi-final behind Persephonia who were the eventual runners-up. It also gets the record for the track with the longest run time to have won the main contest, which we think is unlikely to be beat anytime soon if ever.

For our AQ next month I think we'll be staying instrumental though it will sound more like a 'regular' DNLD entry! :P Anyhow here are our rankings as usual...

At 5:32 it's just over half the length of our previous entry, but it is more than half as good! It's been sitting as a potential of ours for a while, but it's now been stolen by our Northern neighbours for the contest as they like to think of themselves as being a land shrouded in mystery (and even we didn't know Thanos had taken the title of President there until last week). The song, a trance anthem with a great riff and piano section, was a minor UK top 75 hit in 1997 and again in 2003 when it was given a vocal mix. However, it is the original instrumental that has been sent.

we thought we may as well send it whilst we've got the AQ (though I'd like to think it would be able to qualify naturally too)

North Danaelanda only managed to get DNLD another top 10 hit (our 12th in total) as our autoqualifier placed in 10th. It is also the third time we have had consecutive top 10 hits - the first time this happened was when we last won with 'Saving Light', followed by 'Eurodancer' which finished 8th. It means we keep our 100% record of top 10 hits with AQs (excluding BJSC 64 which had abandoned semi-finals), and also means North Danaelanda have a 100% top 10 hit rate, which will be forever kept as we will go back to entering as Danæviia for the foreseeable future.

As we'll be in Oslol next month we'll be entering something with perhaps more pop appeal than our last few entries (for a change). Anyhow here are our rankings as usual...

Lika Morgan - In Motion

Three years after her unjust flop with the Pointer Sisters sampling 'Make Your Move' alongside Croatia Squad, Lika Morgan is back on her own with one of her original songs 'In Motion', which hopefully can do better than third-from last in the final. It's been a while since we've sent a dance-pop bop with housey vibes, but I thought we'd make a brief return to a more Danaelandan style entry. This is also one of our faves of the year, having peaked at #10 in Thermo's hot hits and spending over 20 weeks in the chart so far.

We are back to flopping again as justice was not served for poor brave Lika Morgan, though she at least finished 12 places higher than when she last was entered. It is the 3rd time we have finished in 27th following Quintino & Alvaro 'World In Our Hands' [bJSC 54] and Fatum 'Mowgli' [bJSC 107]. We will potentially be going to Greenfroze next month as they have won for the first time since BJSC 140 but we won't be going any further down the pop route. It's either back to trance, or maybe techno or deep house?
