Glad 'I Wanna Go' is out. Not one of her best whatsoever.
I love I Wanna Go! So glad it made the top 20, deserved to do so. Such fun production.

At #19 we have 'Overprotected', released in December 2001 as the 2nd single from her 3rd album 'Britney', and making this now 5 out of the 6, that has dropped out in this countdown, leaving only the lead single left in the running. A really good pop song with a message about a girl wanting to be free and express herself. While the sound doesn't really differ all that much to her past stuff, lyrically it showed that Britney was maturing. I remember at the time people thought that after the lead single showcased a completely different style, then following it on with this, it seemed like a step back, but I didn't think so at all, because if you listen to the album itself, it does blend different styles and sounds together, and this was one of them. With it's solid production and brilliant chorus, that makes it a pivotal track on the album. After it's release the song was given a totally new remix, titled "The Dark Child Remix" for the American markets along with a whole new music video, due to it's original form failing to make any impact. In it's newer form doesn't really compare and it's message gets lost in it's over produced beats. Although given it's funkier edge does add a bit more fun to it, but on the whole the remix just falls flat and lacks the catchiness of it's original form. Upon release it performed well internationally by reaching top 5 peaks in Sweden, UK, Italy & Romania, and top 10 in Finland, Belgium, Ireland & Norway, then 20 peaks in 6 other countries. In the USA it failed to chart in it's original form, but was re-released in April 2002 in it's "Dark Child Remix" form and peaked at #86 on the US Top 100, making this the 2nd and final single from the album to make the Top 100.

Overprotected is my favourite song from 'Britney', slightly prefer it to 'I'm A Slave 4 U'.

Overprotected 😍

All the 'Britney' singles were so so good.

At #18 is 'If U Seek Amy', released in March 2009 as the 3rd single from her 6th album 'Circus', written and produced by Max Martin, who has worked with her previously on her first 3 albums. This is another one of Britney's controversial songs, and caused quite a lot of complaints from parents, due to the content and it's double meaning. I mean come on, it's just a fun little pop song with a playful tone. That's just the whole point of it, is to be cheeky, titillating and confident, and Britney does nail all these aspects of the song perfectly. It has been rumoured that it's about Amy Winehouse, but that proved to be false. Although there are some lines of lyrics that don't really make sense - "All of the boys and all of the girls are begging to If U Seek Amy", but we all know what it sounds like when heard, like a certain F-word. But at the end of the day it's just a brash fun little pop song, that 's not gonna change the world in any way, it's just a statement of fun and while it will never stand as one of her biggest or memorable hits, it's just a decent track. Funnily enough this only beat 'Overprotected' by 1 point, and has gained mainly positive feedback with the scores, consisting of 5 10's, 11 9's & 11 8's, and only 5 low scores and quite a few 6's. Upon release it was a moderate success upon the charts by reaching #19 on the US Billboard Top 100, becoming her 12th top 20 hit, and hit #20 in the UK, making this her 23rd top 20 hit there in a row. Elsewhere it topped the charts in Brazil and hit top 20 peaks in Australia, France, Ireland, Canada, Sweden, Belgium & New Zealand, then top 40 peaks in 5 other countries and then finally minor impact in 3 other countries.
I've never really been able to tell if I Love or Hate this one. The ha-ha-ha-ha-hee-hee-hee-hee-hees are a bit annoying but I still do enjoy it. I'd say it's probably slightly too high, I'd probably switch it with I wanna Go.
It's a fun track with fun lyrics, could've done with it being top 15, but since it isn't there's going to be some weaker tracks taking its place :(
If U Seek Basic is good. I just think that beyond the novelty of the song, it's not special and should be lower down imo. Especially with it beating 'Overprotected'! :(

#17. Me Against The Music (Ft Madonna) | In The Zone

At #17 we have our first lead single from an studio album to drop 'Me Against The Music', released in October 2003 and taken from her 4th album 'In The Zone' and features the ultimate queen of pop Madonna. I have been a fan of both Britney and Madonna since day 1, and when I heard the news that they would be doing a track together, I was so excited and when I did finally hear the track for the first time... I just loved it, combining 2 of my favourite singers on one track is always a plus for me and they both compliment each really well, as Madonna was the current reigning queen of pop and Britney was always seen as an heir to her throne, therefore it kinda of felt like she was passing the torch to Britney. Plus what really helped was the buzz surrounding it, after their performance on that year's MTV Music Video Awards, where they caused a stir by sharing a kiss, although some have cited it as a kiss of death, as Britney's life did start to crumble not long after, but all that's just nonsense and utter crap. This was the perfect lead single to showcase Britney's newer sound for her then upcoming album (which in my opinion is the best she's ever done), this combines elements of hip-hop and funk guitars and just giving you a small taste of what's on album, as there's more styles and sounds to enjoy there, and therefore making this not only a step forward musically wise, but a step in the right direction as Britney was at the time, at the very height of her fame. Originally the label wanted 'Outrageous' to be the lead single, but thankfully Britney pushed for this and getting Madonna on board really helped with her decision. There was also another song set to be included on the album, titled 'Pop Culture Whore', which the label loved, but Britney hated it and ended up getting scrapped altogether. Upon release the song became a smash hit by topping the charts in Australia, Denmark, Greece, Hungary, Ireland, Norway & Spain, while in the UK it peaked at #2 (being blocked by Busted's 'Crashed The Wedding', WHY0, such an awful track. Elsewhere it managed top 5 peaks in 10 other countries and in the USA it managed to peak at #35 and funnily enough becoming Madonna's 50th chart entry and her first ever collaboration to feature on the Hot 100.
