Just realised I've got pages and pages to catch up on, but I have no regret for the essay I am about to deliver:

'Nothing Really Matters' has really shone for me in recent times, despite the high standard of the generally regarded holy trinity of 'Frozen', 'Ray of Light' and '...Goodbye' from that album, and I surprised myself by giving it a 10. It goes without saying that Orbit's production is stunning, both the main melody and the little things like the bass you can hear playing at times, but my favourite part is the middle 8 - the vocals, the piano, the lyrics; it all just comes together so beautifully. Definitely feel it's one of her most underrated at the moment.

I think I try to down-play my love for 'Living for Love' given its recency, but its been over a year now and I'm still enjoying it as much as I did at the start. I love what it's about and the production is such a big part to the song, certainly a ready-made hit for any current artist for sure.

'Beautiful Stranger' is a track I'd have quite easily awarded a 10/10 a couple of years ago, but it doesn't sound quite so good any more for some reason or another. I still really like it though, it really is a solid pop record that harks back to the carefree sounds of 'Cherish' and the like.

My love for 'Oh Father' is widely established in many parts of this AF. I think the first song of hers to really move me, although I've since discovered this is a common thing when it comes to her ballads. The public need to be made more aware of this, but it can remain a special, hidden moment among her fans for now.

A shame 'Jump' fell just short of the Top 20 and to 'Get Together'. Both are absolute bops though.

'Express Yourself' and 'Don't Tell Me' aren't songs I'd personally put in the Top 20 but I can absolutely see why they're both are. Yay for 'Open Your Heart' and 'Ghosttown' and 'Music'), really pleased the latter has made that much of an impression in a relatively small space of time. Can't argue with that though, it's a modern classic in her discography.

Part 2:

My personal Top 10 regarding the songs that actually made it would be something like this:

01 Hung Up

02 Ray of Light

03 Sorry

04 Vogue

05 Like A Prayer

06 The Power of Goodbye

07 Papa Don't Preach

08 Frozen

09 Into the Groove

10 La Isla Bonita

Yay at my actual Top 3 favourites being here (anyone else have all three of their 11s left? B-)). All are 9/10 moments at least.

'La Isla Bonita' isn't a song that straight away comes to mind as one of her best but, when you close your eyes whilst relaxing in the sun and just wish to be transported to complete ease of mind, that's when the song truly shows off its full potential and reminds you exactly why it is so fondly regarded.

I do so far! :cheer:

I've just finished catching up on this. Didn't really know enough to vote, but 'Frozen' to win please. One of my favourite songs of all-time. (Would be happy with a 'Hung Up' win if not, that's her second best~)
La Isla Bonita is probably her most JOYOUS song. It exudes joy and happiness and summery vibes and it's perfect.

Oh I definitely don't agree with this. La Isla is quite BITTERSWEET really... it's a kind of tail-end-of-summer, say goodbye to your lover song. An absolute anthem, but hardly as joyous as something like Express Yourself or Vogue.

I would say overall it got the best reaction on the Rebel Heart Tour. I don't think a single person wasn't screaming along to every word.

Yeah, I wouldn't say "joyous" is the exact word. It's definitely one of her songs to give off the most summery, happy vibes but in a more relaxing, calming way and I always think of being ecstatic and getting your adrenaline running when I think of joyous.

Tbf, "joyous" does seem to be John's favourite word ever so we can forgive him for fitting it in whenever he can (and the word has rubbed off on me too :drama:).

I've heard it all before

07. Sorry // Confessions on a Dancefloor // 9.12

(7: Chapman, Joe.) // 11: Liamk97, Griff, 10: Ultraviolence, Alejandjob, mr_pmt, Qween, Kylie Jackson, Mango, Regina, SamJudd)

In 7th place we have the penultimate 'Confessions...' track with the dance-filling banger Sorry. It was a commercial success, following on from the humongous 'Hung Up' and continued to show that this was an album and an era that was to be taken seriously. It did however fail to impact the BIllboard chart in the US because of radio underplaying it but it is one of the most recognisable dance songs of the decade despite this. It channels earlier dance Madonna songs but brings them into the noughties, with wondrous beats, techno-sounds and catchy-as-hell lyrics. The video is a continuation of the 'Hung Up' and although this is my perfect album and era, I do feel the videos LACK some of the spark and magic of the songs - although this is a good one and she looks STUNNING throughout. A brilliant song in many ways and a worthy top 10 placing in my opinion - and you seem to agree as it didn't receive a score below 7 :o!

I love this track 'don't explain yourself cos talk is cheap' is my fav part .

It certainly wouldn't feature in my personal top 10.

I do like the pet shop boys remix too.

Well, I gave it its lowest score, which kind of says how I feel about the song, but 7 still = to good in my books. Still a really fun song, but not Madonna all time top 10.

Hey, seems we can't shun quite all of Griff's Madonna music tastes.

I'll give a probably overly detailed commentary on my feelings for 'Sorry' later tonight.

great song but a bit of a sacrilege that it's above Into the Groove, La Isla Bonita or Live to Tell :D
Probably worth noting that Sorry is actually one place down from where it came last time, and Into the Groove and Isla Bonita didn't come above it then either.

I know it's late but #6 will be appearing in the early afternoon!

hype

^ never heard that before (and don't believe she did)

I do remember her commenting that she was shoreside that everyone wanted it to be the second single .

Source ? I have never heard that .

I heard similar tbh, so I had a little search on Google. From Rolling Stone in 2009: "I've never been a good judge of what things are going to be huge or not. The songs that I think are the most retarded songs I've written, like 'Cherish' and 'Sorry,' a pretty big hit off my last album, end up being the biggest hits. 'Into the Groove' is another song I feel retarded singing, but everybody seems to like it."

Not sure if that's quite the same as hating them as such, more that she didn't think they would catch on. It's a peculiar word to use though.
