:drama: at The Vamps flopping in at #20 however better than their last which missed the Top 100. Also it's had an impact on the album which is such a good pop album and it's up 9 to #57.

Absolutely love that one. It's an odd song in that it's known by two different names, "Computer Game" (the name with which it charted) & "Firecracker".

One of the members of Yellow Magic Orchestra went on to have a hit in his own right with "Forbidden Colours", taken from the David Bowie film "Merry Christmas Mr Lawrence", featuring David Sylvian. The main riff from that song ended up being remixed into "Heart Of Asia", a #3 hit for Watergate in 2000.

The band Urusei Yatsura, who took their name from a manga series by Rumiko Takahashi (also responsible for Inuyasha and Ranma 1/2), had a few minor hits in the 90s (with "Hello Tiger" reaching #40), but they were actually from Scotland.

But funnily enough, Yoko Ono might actually have been the last Japanese artist to have a top 40 single/album in the UK (Merry Xmas excepted), as a dance remix of "Walking On Thin Ice" went to #35 in 2003.

From what I can tell, the first Japanese artist to have a hit in the UK was Ryu Sakamoto with the lovely "Sukiyaki", way back in 1963. Fun fact - the song was called "Ue wo Muite Arukō" in Japan, however when they brought it in English speaking nations they didn't think people would be able to pronounce it, so they gave it a name that sounded vaguely Japanese, even though a beef stew has nothing to do with a song about looking to the sky so noone can see you crying. It would have been like "Jailhouse Rock" being renamed "Bacon Double Cheesburger" in Japan because it sounds vaguely American.

Kygo and Kodaline on paper sounds like a duet that would never work. That said, its a great track that deserves better than number 41.
They're probably the only Japanese act since Yoko Ono to chart in any capacity.

Weren't The 5678's Japanese too? They charted with 'Woo Hoo' a few years ago (it was from the Kill Bill 2 soundtrack I think).

I can't recall another time when this many new albums entered the top 10. As things stand, only Adele, Justin Bieber and David Bowie are staying in this week. Anyone able to recall any other time this happened?

I can remember a Top 10 with 5 new entries but your question includes Albums that have climbed into the Top 10 as well which makes it harder to track (unless someone has a recollection of a chart where 7 Albums entered the Top 10).

Blonde/Craig David a frustrating distance from being Top 10 despite being there on iTunes. Pleased that The Vamps haven't plummeted, disappointed it will miss the Top 20 though.
I was doubting if The Vamps would make the top 40 tbf so it's doing pretty well as far as I'm concerned :heehee:

was wondering where the Drake songs could enter come Friday? considering they have 2 days and a few hours of sales only + out on itunes streaming but not Spotify...

the top Drake song could do 25K (5k+10k+10k), enough be top 20-25, but the second song is selling like 50% less, so could be around 40-50 but might miss the top 40

what do you all think?
