Oh I forgot to vote in this but both Oasis songs would've gotten big points from me ('Live Forever' in particular is in my all-time top 5 so an easy 11 there!). The Blur, Babylon Zoo and Gusto songs are also amazing. Shall remember to vote in one of these next time!

My preferred top 10 would look something like;

1 Lifted

2 Give Me A Little More Time

3 Disco 2000

4 The Universal

5 Don't Look Back In Anger

6 Not So Manic Now

7 I Got 5 On It

8 Live Forever

9 Spaceman

10 He's On The Phone

9. Dubstar - Not So Manic Now

10. Lighthouse Family - Lifted

Average Score: 7.55

Total Votes: 11

Highest Rating: 11 (MACMOORE22)

Lowest Rating: 1 (darkstar79)

In tenth are the Lighthouse Family with their first top ten hit 'Lifted'. Originally released in 1995 to a rather less successful outcome it peaked at #4 on re-release the following year.

Despite only receiving 9 scores Dubstar's 'Not So Manic Now' manages to make the top 10. Despite never having a top 10 hit they achieved success in the mid 90's with three top 20 hits, including this one.

One of the two #1 hits on this edition finishes in eighth. 'Spaceman' was the first new #1 of 1995 where it would spend 5 weeks at the top. They are a relative one hit wonder with only one other minor top 20 hit to their name.

Total Votes: 11

Highest Rating: 10 (dandy* & darkstar79)

Lowest Rating: 5 (Fgiboy2511 & SamJudd)

Finishing in 7th by virtue of receiving a 9 are hip hop duo Luniz with their biggest hit 'I Got 5 On It'. The song peaked at #3 in February 1996 & they would follow up with a top 20 a few months later.

Just in front are Saint Etienne, no not the football team the London band. They had a long string of hits in the 90s however only one top 10 single (and that was as a feature). 'He's On The Phone' was an unlucky #11 peaker.

The top 5 in this rate all cracked the 8+ average score. 'Give Me A Little More Time' became Gabrielle's third top 10 hit when it peaked at #5 in 1996, she would go on to have 6 more in total including the 2000 #1 'Rise'. 'Give Me...' is however her longest running single of all time in the top 75.

A right royal britpop battle here in another Now Rate & it's Oasis who come out on top again, in fact with both of their tracks. 'The Universal', taken from Blur's fourth album 'The Great Escape', peaked at #5 in late 1995. The song has been used on numerous adverts & documentaries to date.

A big congratulations to Oasis however who have done a Disclosure by getting 2 songs into the top 3, can they do one better & also win this editon? 'Live Forever' was the band's third single from debut album 'Definitely Maybe' and became their first UK top 10 hit. It remains one their fans' favourites to this day & over half of its scores received were a 10.

This leaves us with Disco 2000 Vs Don't Look Back In Anger. Some battle I'm sure you'll all agree!

And the winner is...

1. Pulp - Disco 2000

Average Score: 9.64

Total Votes: 11

Highest Rating: 11 (dandy* & Jester)

Lowest Rating: 7 (vibe)

2. Oasis - Don't Look Back In Anger

Average Score: 9.45

Total Votes: 11

Highest Rating: 11 (Chapman & Dobbo)

Lowest Rating: 4 (Fgiboy2511)

A bit of shock here in 'Disco 2000' beating both of the Oasis tracks but a fantastic winner nonetheless!

Commiserations this time to Oasis who just miss out on the crown. Their average score of 9.45 is the highest not to win a Rate & in fact would have won all but 4 Now Rates ever! 'Don't Look Back In Anger', without doubt one of the band's most iconic hits, became their second UK #1 single following 'Some Might Say' & features on one of the biggest selling albums of all time 'What's The Story (Morning Glory)'. It was also the first single released to feature Noel's vocals. I must say, when I saw them live in Cardiff in 2009 their performance of this song was possibly my favourite ever live performance (although it could also be Champagne Supernova). A true classic anthem!

However despite all this it wasn't enough to topple Pulp's 'Disco 2000'. Topping off a Britpop top 4, the song taken from 'A Different Class', peaked at #7 in late 1995 & is one of the band's most well known hits. It features a true story narrated by frontman Jarvis Cocker in its lyrical content. The song picked up a lowest score of 7 which could be a new record & it's winning average of 9.64 becomes the 3rd ever highest in a Now Rate. Although I personally would have preferred an Oasis victory I can't deny this is indeed a phenomenal top 3. Well done to Pulp!

Thanks to the 10 other participants in this rate. The penultimate rate will be of an absolute classic edition for the most of us!
