May 15, 20169 yr They really should've kept to the way they used to score it, poor Australia were robbed of a win, and a clear victory too :( [i do like the Ukraine entry though]. Also seems a bit wrong that Poland got about 10 places higher with the new system, which surely must be partly because of diaspora voting (certainly explains why the UK public gave them 10 points anyway). Couldn't care less that the UK entry flopped anyway, it deserved it. Poor Spain tho
May 15, 20169 yr Finally caught up with Eurovision and I'm so disappointed with the winner, preferably Dami Im would have won. It was cruel for her to have such a big lead to lose it right at the very end. Disappointed for the United Kingdom, seriously thought we deserved better!
May 15, 20169 yr Question, if Australia did win, would Ukraine co host with Australia for coming second. I really don't know how that would work.
May 15, 20169 yr I think Australia would chose where in Europe to host the contest, as they can't host it in Australia.
May 15, 20169 yr I think Australia would chose where in Europe to host the contest, as they can't host it in Australia. Ah I see, so it could have came to UK  :D oh well. I guess it would be one of the big 5 countries though.
May 15, 20169 yr They really should've kept to the way they used to score it, poor Australia were robbed of a win, and a clear victory too :( [i do like the Ukraine entry though]. The juries were if anything more powerful under the old system, this knocks it down to a clear and separate 50/50 split without a poor jury performance scuppering your chances. Which is good, juries are definitely necessary to counter the people who'll always vote for the same countries no matter what (us giving high points to Lithuania on the televote EVERY year is getting quite tiresome), and several people were enjoying the jury only voting last night but the old system was giving those 5 people far too much power. I think this new system is the best of both worlds, even if we might have to settle in for a big Polish diaspora setting them up to do well in the years to come (although him being apparently a very big star in Poland may have motivated them more than normal so this might be a one-off in it being SO big).
May 15, 20169 yr An Australian hosted contest would more likely be held in Germany if the rumors are to be believed (which is why they need to win sooner rather than later because a Berlin hosted Eurovision would be glorious carnage and I'd have to go!).
May 15, 20169 yr Oh Jon Ola Sand is so f***ing lucky I am in Amsterdam when I read that and not still in Stockholm. Just hit join the Russian army levels of anger.
May 15, 20169 yr They'd probably choose UK then Just need Australia to win next year, 2018 London calling ha I think they'd be more likely to go with a country that was actually bothered
May 15, 20169 yr Oh Jon Ola Sand is so f***ing lucky I am in Amsterdam when I read that and not still in Stockholm. Just hit join the Russian army levels of anger. What was said?
May 15, 20169 yr I was in Stockholm for the whole thing, firstly Semi final 2 and then the Jury final on Friday. We had an amazing experience though i'd much rather have Australia win. However, I can see them winning soon enough, I don't think they will be giving up anytime soon. In regards to the voting, I echo everything that's been said really. I'd imagine they will keep the system for another next year and see how it goes. If it begins coming obvious that there are diaspora issues and some countries are getting bigger advantages etc then I can see them having a potential rethink as I can imagine that some countries will begin to complain and getting annoyed. Having said all that, it ultimately does come down to the song because the top 10 does have different countries in it to last year.
May 15, 20169 yr HOT STATZ ALERT: These would've been the results under the system of voting from last year. Silas aver your gaze now! 01 316 Australia 02 275 Ukraine 03 241 Russia 04 183 Bulgaria 05 163 France 06 151 Sweden 07 139 Armenia 08 105 Lithuania 09 92 Belgium 10 76 Latvia 11 75 Netherlands 12 70 Austria (more votes) 13 70 Italy 14 65 Hungary 15 61 Serbia 16 57 Azerbaijan 17 56 Georgia 18 53 Cyprus 19 51 Poland 20 38 Spain 21 29 Israel 22 27 United Kingdom 23 24 Croatia 24 19 Malta 25 8 Germany 26 2 Czech Republic Poland/Malta would have crashed a lot harder due to the size of their public/jury mismatch and Australia's jury landslide would have been enough to give them the win. Also France leapfrog Sweden into the top 5. Did you use the 2009 system (combining the top 10 jury and top 10 televotes for each country's overall result) or the 2010-15 system (combining the entire top 25/26 jury and televote results for each country)? I laboriously calculated the latter over night and have a slightly different listing to you. Perhaps you disregarded the made-up televotes in countries were the actual one was invalid, although have they even confirmed these yet? 1 315 Australia 2 279 Ukraine 3 242 Russia 4 178 Bulgaria 5 162 France 6 155 Sweden 7 139 Armenia 8 103 Lithuania 9 90 Belgium 10 77 Netherlands 11 76 Latvia 12 71 Austria 13 69 Italy 14 62 Hungary 15 61 Serbia 16 55 Georgia 17 53 Azerbaijan 18= 49 Poland 18= 49 Cyprus 20 35 Spain 21= 27 Israel 21= 27 UK 23 23 Croatia 24 18 Malta 25 8 Germany 26 1 Czech Republic
May 15, 20169 yr wait just heard the Iceland entry It's amazing. HOW had it DNQ'd????? It sounds like it could have won.
May 15, 20169 yr I used the 2013-15 system of using the full 1-25/26 rankings added together and smallest number = biggest points. This was all off the spreadsheet so they didn't say whose televotes were "focus grouped" outside of San Marino as the obvious. Might've got a couple wrong but they're all in the same ball park anyway. Those same calculations also revealed that none of the qualifiers would've been different under the old system. Closest was Macedonia who were 7 points away from knocking out Serbia in 10th.
