They should make 1000 streams the equivalent of 1 chart sale instead of 10 chart sales like in the albums

The system works fine now - your system would just mean chart sales are down alot in comparison to the charts history.

Your system would just mean quicker movement but a chart that doesnt reflect the tastes of the general public. Youre annoyance isnt with the chart it really should be with the domination of commercial radio by 1 or 2 interest groups leading to the same songs being repeatedly played 30 times a day on various commercial monopoly stations.

meeehhhhhhhhhhh. Cry baby. The rules are hear to stay. Move with the times and stop moaning.

Erm, please. The idea that sales are dying is bull. People just don't want to buy the crap music many are putting out now.

There are many artists that continue to SELL well.

If everything sold the same today and tomorrow (which it won't ofc but it helps to estimate), we'd end up with a top 40 that looks a bit like this:

1 1 ONE DANCE DRAKE FT WIZKID & KYLA

4 2 THIS GIRL KUNGS VS COOKIN' ON 3 BURNERS

Apologies for going slightly off-topic and I'm not sure if you can answer this Joseph but there's one thing I've always been curious about: as we know, actual Thursday streaming data has been missing from the charts since the move to a Friday chart and as a result the OCC / Millward Brown use available data from the previous six days to be able to "guesstimate" what streaming sales from the Thursday would be. Which day of the week most closely resembles streaming patterns on a Thursday? Is it closer to what streams would be on a weekend day? A poster at ukmix asked me a couple of weeks ago and I guessed it most probably was closer to a Friday but after thinking about it perhaps it could be closer to a Monday? Has the breakdown of the general pattern of weekly streaming sales by days (as a %) ever been published?

That's an interesting question actually! The Thursday data is based on trends throughout the week, so it's hard to say exactly what day would be most accurate, and I'd expect it would depend highly on a song's trajectory through the week. It's really hard to say actually, I wonder if Doctor Blind can shed any light on this? It's confusing because Friday/Saturday are high stream days and Wednesday is normally a low stream day for example. The breakdown has not actually been posted but it's probably something that could be worked out if people had every midweek update that was posted (which we sadly don't get, we never get the weekend ones at least). Sorry I can't be more help :heehee:

Thanks for the answer - it would be interesting to know though as it would make Thursday streaming sales almost guessable in advance!

Yes sales would be down but at least the chart won't be stale

Totally agree with you. My post was me being sarcastic to the constant moaning of streaming being reflected in chart positioning. Streaming is actually a way better indication of music popularity. There are a lot of changes occurring in the music business right now and a lot of the record labels are in big trouble with the emergence of Spotify, Apple, Tidal and the soon introduction of Amazon. You are soon going to get artists signing to these 4 companies directly. There is a lot of talk at the moment that Drake might sign directly with Apple as he has fulfilled his quota of albums with Cash Money/Republic Records. Chance the rapper just released his new album directly to apple for streaming and it charted in the top 20 on the Billboard 200 based on streaming alone which is an amazing feat/the signs of things to come - he is not even signed to any record label.

Streaming is the new wave - the sooner everybody gets used to it the better - change is good

As I said before, there's very good chance now Drake will break Bryan Adams is record of 16 weeks at number 1.

I'd say that's unlikely, he's only holding on by the skin of his teeth now, he won't last 7 weeks beyond this week...

Oh, so Drake is still gonna be #1  I wonder if it's possible he could have been knocked off a few weeks ago if the song was actually on YouTube, as Iz posted a while ago I suspect that is driving more people to stream it on Spotify instead and thus boosting his streaming figures to keep him afloat. I've grown into quite a fan of 'This Girl' so would still be nice to see that hitting #1 at some point if not this week anyway. Though I'm not complaining at 'One Dance' staying there either, I haven't heard it enough times to have got bored of it yet so still really liking it at the moment

Kinda here for Rick Astley getting a #1 album in 2016 as well tbh. Though I think Tom will probably still clinch it assuming there is still some streaming data missing (#1 on sales looking in the bag for Rick though).

Yes, there does seem to be a trend of a significant percentage of the Album streams getting added into the Thursday Sales.

Rick has sold slightly more in the last 2 days though (even though it is negligible) and he was seen twerking with some Loose Women on ITV earlier today, is there no end to what he will do to get Publicity...

It's quite ironic that Rick Astley hated all the attention he got when he was in his pomp, now he's (Rick) rolling along with the publicity machine ;)

As an 80s fan I'd love him to get the number 1 (though in an ironic sort of way!) though if he does he may suffer THE biggest drop from the top ever recorded next week...

Yes, true, he was so unassuming in the Eighties (and I remember people being surprised by how he looked when he first got to number 1 as he hadn't been seen in the media much).

Just worked out that the Adele tribute is the Album name (ie named about his age), took me a while...

It's like double the Album "25" is

#46, not sure he'll make it back in this week but should re-enter next week I'd imagine!

It's now at #19 on iTunes so there's a chance he'll survive another week in the top 40. If he does drop out, he'll definitely re-enter next week. It would get more of a boost if he drops the video

It is difficult to say with much confidence, we do know from the figures that streaming peaks on a Friday, with Saturday close behind. The rest of the week is around 20% down on the Fri/Sat peak and does not vary hugely. It may be a question worth asking over at Spotify.

They can do all kinds of clever stuff with their stats, like proving that streaming of “Wake Me Up When September Ends” by Green Day seems to peak at the end of September every year: https://insights.spotify.com/us/2015/10/06/...september-ends/

although Thursday's streaming data has never been provided on time, to make the deadline for inclusion in weekly chart, the OCC do eventually receive it every Saturday! i presume from analyzing the trends from this tardy Thursday streaming data (in comparison to the previous week) they've become pretty adept at modelling what it should be on friday morning! obviously if someone randomly drops a new track on Thursday evening, or gets a boost from the tv, then that gets airbrushed out of the picture~

LOL @ drake continuing to rick roll all-comers

once all the pending streaming data has been modeled, i agree tom odell should have it in the bag, although with father's day purchases who knows~ :heehee:

Pleased that it's looking increasingly likely that Rick Astley will be No.1 on Friday.

It will be his first no.1 album since his debut in 1987.

absolutely gutting that Kungs won't be #1 this week  It looked so good for him at the start of the week too.

I just hope somehow he can get it eventually.

I'm gutted as well, Bastille are releasing, so they could be in contention for #1 next week, bit worrying as Kungs might not even get a week.
