So if we're doing the collective vote blob thing for the last day voters, will their actual votes that they sent be revealed after the fact or will they just be lost in the void?

You can always save them to your PMs and post them yourself if you want to reveal your "actual" votes.

I've sent some votes in after all! Based primarily on semi listens and a bit of recapping but it's such an incredible final and one i'll definitely be returning to often <3

I think it would have to be a 'last six hours' final blob of votes rather than a last day thing though, seeing as quite often more than half are still outstanding with 24 hours to go, so you couldn't really present 35 votes in one blob, after taking ages to present the first 25. Or maybe just have a fixed number each time like the last 15 votes go into the final blob, regardless of timing (though there will pretty much always be way more than 15 outstanding on the final day).

The other possible issue of course is that not all hosts choose to present the results in order of receipt, so this would pretty much eradicate the freedom for hosts to present the votes in the order they wish to, in order to maximise tension early on in the reveal or whatever (though I guess they could still order the first lot as they wish to).

The banlist (the nominations process one at least) was my idea, and looking back I can't imagine why I thought it was a good idea for people to nominate songs and artists to be banned.

I think it was two things - firstly it was a reaction to Tirren's idea of a mod-elected banlist (people seemed to dislike the fact that only the mods would have a say on what would be banned - that didn't bother me particularly but I was trying to come up with an alternative suggestion) and IIRC there was another proposal at the same time that songs that were participating could be disqualified halfway through a contest if they suddenly took off on iTunes or appeared on the Radio 1 playlist...! (Which would have meant a swift exit for the likes of Sigala/Roll Deep etc and made a real mess of the results).

Then again, the banlist was quite a popular suggestion at the time, and people mostly seemed happy to trial it. But BJSC was a very different kettle of fish back then. I expect there really would have been riots if the veto process that we have now had been implemented midway through 2009. It's certainly a fairer, more logical and much more scientific system of course, but it would have wiped out about half of all of the songs in the contest in 2009, whereas the banlist only made about about 4 or 5 songs a month ineligible to send, most of which wouldn't have been confirmed by anyone anyway. (Not that I'm sticking up for the banlist, it really was an awful idea but at the time it made a lot more sense than it does now due to different eras and it looked tame compared to some of the alternative rule change proposals around at the time).

The problem, from my pov, was that what we ended up doing after my victory and the contest's break was actually what we wanted to do and tried to do when we ended up with the banlist!!

Second time we explained it better and dictated and it has lead us to this point, which is much better.

That's why we're not doing it just yet. All of this is still to be determined.

The mods will have a chat and then I have proposed that after that we come into the main forum and all of us have a look at a more detailed version of a proposal.

Was the one you hosted the Unknown one?

I think I recall that contest you scrapped the banlist (and the artist reservation thread *shudders*) and introduced some measures about blocking the release schedule and obvious BJ-loved artists, like Katy Perry/Gaga etc, with an appeal process in place, which I guess is where the current rules evolve from.

But yes, it worked much better that time because you just implemented it and went with it, rather than canvassing for views first, which is what Tirren initially did and it really didn't work, because nobody could agree on anything

Still, I think we're in a very good place now, and have learnt from past mistakes. I can't believe we ever had a time looking back where everyone could basically hog five artists that they might have sent (and iirc a lot of people started to abuse that system by also reserving artists that they didn't want to send...but didn't want anybody else to send!)

I need someone to compile a big history of BJSC (much like the more general history of BJ threads we had in the lounge last year), as some of this stuff just needs to be relived!

If we do do this combining the last block of votes into a single thing a la Eurovision (which sounds like it could be quite interesting so I'm not against it!) could we still have the actual PMs for those votes posted? (As in just all in a single post after everything is revealed). It'd be a bit difficult to check that there aren't errors in the final spreadsheet if the spreadsheet itself is the only thing to go off (I know this is usually not a big issue as any errors are negligible 99% of the time but it could be significant if there are ever any ties in or around the top 2).
I think that would be doable yes. It wouldn't need to be an immediate thing, but for hosts to post all of the PMs in a single post within the next couple of days with no extra formatting should be easy enough to achieve once the (immense!) pressure of results show day is over.

Ashton's votes are in with a whole 43 minutes to spare.

We listened to Unovia's plea to vote early! :kink:

Voted, a VERY easy 18. It wasn't a discovery but it's still among my favourite ever BJSC entries (because it was an Altyr contender, natch).

I'm doing a simulation of this proposed new reveal system based on the results for BJSC75 (just splitting the last half of the votes into a single block) - might post a separate thread for this if anyone is interested in what it might look like

The most eye-opening thing from doing this so far is that Desbuanda were in the first half of the votes for that contest! ;o

I thought when people got girlfriends they stopped doing things like that?
Stats are sexay tho

you need help hunny. :kink:
