Aww that's really sweet for Brazil to get the gold they wanted the most.

Niger set to get a medal in tonight's taekwondo, the nation that was holding the second-longest medal drought after Iraq out of those that have won something before so I'm pleased for them.

That is absolute bull from Lynsey Sharp trying to use Caster Semenya's gender issues as an excuse for her own failure to do good enough to win a medal. She finished in 6TH PLACE for f*** sake, even if Caster Semenya didn't run in the 800 m Lynsey still wouldn't have got a medal.
Also yay Mo and the women's relay team too. Plus we should be good to beat China overall now too.

Great Britain have finished above China in the medal table. We have come 2nd in the medal time.

Congratulations to Mo for succeeding in his bid for a long distance running 'double double' at the Olympics, I stayed up to watch the 5000m final and he didn't disappoint! What a legend.

Countries that won medals in Rio 2016 that didn't win any in London 2012: Fiji, Jordan, Kosovo (first Olympic medal ever for these three), Austria, Burundi, Israel, Ivory Coast, Niger, Nigeria, Philippines, United Arab Emirates, Vietnam.

Countries that won medals in London 2012 that didn't win any in Rio 2016: Afghanistan, Botswana, Cyprus, Gabon, Guatemala, Hong Kong, Latvia, Montenegro, Saudi Arabia, Uganda

Biggest Smash: Simone Biles. She earned four gold medals and one bronze but the biggest surprise was a kiss from her man crush Zac Efron! It was so cute to see her and the others freak out.

Honorable mentions:

• Aly Raisman's parents - for their reactions that could be more popular than her floor exercise.

• Gwen Jorgensen & Nicola Spirig - for a weird display of gamesmanship, each telling the other to set the pace.

• Joseph Schooling - for meeting his idol back in 2008... and taking his relevance 8 years later.

• Katie Ledecky - for giving us the time to reset our weaves before the second place finisher reached the end.

• Laurie Hernandez - for an impressive beam performance that even outdid Simone! Plus she got a special congratulations from Adam Levine.

• Michael Phelps - for proving that age doesn't matter in the world of swimming. However whenever Madonna makes another album he seems to come back.

• Nathan Adrian - for becoming the latest swimmer heartthrob.

• Simone Manuel - for breaking the glass ceiling as a black woman athlete.

• Usain Bolt - for an astounding and impressive three-gold close out to his Olympic career.

Biggest Flop: Ryan Lochte. Sure he did well in the relay, but that was completely eclipsed by the immense Phelps coverage, so he and his friends decide to go out into the night and get themselves in trouble. And when their gunpoint scandal erupted into a giant fiasco, he decided to gtfo. Will he ever be relevant after this? Look at what happened to Lance Armstrong. And when you ask, "Who?", I will say, "Exactly."

Dishonorable Mentions:

• Tom Daley's platform performance - for starting off weak and landing him in last place.

• the countries that didn't get medals this year - because it's pretty obvious when you know you've flopped.

He's now had his Speedos dropped.

Taekwondo is officially my fave Olympic sport tbh. Where else do you see a medal table this eclectic *.*

(it's also very entertaining to watch and at least kind of semi makes sense unlike judo)

He's now had his Speedos dropped.

Looking forward to seeing this on fmforums later ;)

All I want to say is what a fantastic achievement for Team GB. The medal haul was impressive enough but the aspect that wowed me the fact was the array of events we earned Gold - 15 I believe I read which puts us well at the top of that particular "unique" table!

(Let's hope they were all clean :kink:)

Is there a link anywhere to a unique events table? Sounds rather interesting!

My highlights were Bolt's triple triple and Farah winnin both his events again. I'm sad that I missed some of it due to being on holiday but glad I got to see a few more events this time round than I usually watch. Loved seeing the pommel horse, trampolining and synchro diving especially!

One of my favourite (underrated) moments of these Olympics was the unexpected gold for Thiago Braz da Silva in the pole vault. Smashing his personal best by 11cm and breaking the Olympic record to get a gold out of nowhere in his home Olympics.
Dina Asher-Smith and Adam Gemili are both solid bets for a 200m medal. Both got close this time and there's more to come. Matt Hudson-Smith could well do the same in the 400m.

Asher-Smith can get better as she gets older. I think she'll be a punt for a medal in Tokyo providing injuries don't happen.
