There should be a second Scottish referendum, but it would be in the interests of the rest of the UK if they want to keep the union with Scotland for Scotland to be as a devolved country an EU Member as a counter argument.

Where the hell do you get your news? Even the violently anti-SNP elements of the Scottish press are fully backing her.

She is currently in Brussells meeting with important EU presidents and diplomats. She's doing exactly what she said she would. She conveined an emergency meeting on Friday and Saturday of the Scot gov as promised while the uk gov hid. She then went to parliament and got a mandate yesterday. Another tick.

While acting like the perfect stateswoman her government is still getting the job done. Yesterday they unveils new education reforms. The only effective government the uk has right now is hers.

It looks like Nicola Sturgeon might have had a wasted journey, the Spanish PM has slapped her back down by saying "Scotland doesn't have the competence to negotiate with the EU". Like I said earlier, Nicola Sturgeon is a joke. The sooner Scotland dump her as a leader and put in Ruth Davidson the better.

That's the opinion of one EU prime minister and, it's Spain...you might as well just replace "Scotland" with "Catalonia" or "Basque Country".

isn't Ruth Davidson from Scotland too?

So does she have the competence to negotiate with the EU?

They had an election last month. Sturgeon won, Davidson lost.

It does, however, emphasise that Scotland needs an arrangement that cannot be used as a precedent by Catalonia. The obvious way to do this is to get an agreement for Scotland to "inherit" the UK's place.

Well she wouldn't be wasting her time making Scotland look very silly in front of the international media by cosying up to EU bureaucrats.

Scots voted to stay in the UK and now the UK as a whole has voted to leave the EU. What part of that can't she understand? Just because the Scots voted to stay in, it was a full national vote and she and the Scots should accept it and shut up. She's just stirring up trouble. She should put her toys back in her pram.

There shouldn't be another Scottish referendum either, until at least 10 years after the last.

You are an idiot.

Shut the f*** up. Would you shut up if England had voted to leave by a very, very small margin but stronger remain votes across the rest of the UK just about managed to overturn that? I doubt it.

Clearly the change in circumstances required for a second vote have occurred since 2014 and they are great enough to be against the interests of Scotland which makes another referendum necessary.

Not only that but Ruth stood on a platform of 'make me the opposition'. She knew she couldn't come close to Nic. Their platform was just empty platitudes and mentioning independence 5 times more than the entire SNP party's mentions of it during indyref raised to the power of the green party membership.

47% of the electorate in May 2016. 50.5% of the electorate in May 2015. She's going nowhere on a mandate like that. No one in western Europe can come anywhere close to that kind of mandate.

Couple of people in this thread proving why support for indy is up from 30% when the ref was first announced to the current polling of a majority.

It also annoys me that anti independence folk say the 2014 result was 'an outstanding majority voted against' - no it wasnt 47% voted pro independence and that was with the massive push by the establishment too hardly a convincing win.

Anyway I hope the SNP dont waste their mandate like Labour did and become arrogant over the next decade.

I was against Scottish Indie because it would have been bad for both Scotland and the rest of the UK. That has changed. Voters chose the EU exit knowing perfectly well it would lead to another referendum (dismissed as every fact was, by The Three Stooges as "Project Fear"). The UK was warned of ALL of the potential consequences, and chose to dismiss them through arrogance or stupidity or some useless belief that it was a price worth paying (NOTE: a price for OTHER PEOPLE to pay, being as they were retired, on benefits, or in low-paying jobs and had nothing much to lose).

To suddenly turn round and demand Scotland now has no right to another ref is nonsense.

I would expect if England gets a crappy EU deal, or an alternative one that is going to infuriate the anti-immigrant lobby, that the Tories will prefer to ask the electorate which they prefer because they guarantee to piss off half the voters in the country if they don't, claiming "I didn't vote for that!".

The great thing is, as there were ZERO actual policies on offer to the electorate to vote on, almost everyone stands to be pissed off.

Marvellous!

I'm sure those who want Sturgeons excellent leadership to stop interrupting the sheer chaos unfolding in London won't like her comment on the Tory Leadership battle. "Scotland's potential future - out of the EU with Michael Gove or Theresa May as PM. It fair focuses the mind"

Shots fired in 140 tweets or less

Still, hardly a huge lead!

I'm pretty sure you would call a 10 point lead fairly resounding were it in your favour.

Nonetheless, the circumstances have changed.
