July 10, 20169 yr it would be good if we could use the veto framework AND also our opinions in conjunction with each other, because the veto does catch quite a lot of the offenders then for the odd one or two we could say 'oh but wait a minute...' - would people give us flack for that? Probably but they should get the hell over it because surely it's preferable that anything the veto gets unfairly or anything it misses on a technicality can be dealt with
July 10, 20169 yr Holy moly I leave the country and this MessT happens (Can't add much to what has already been said but it is a ridiculous veto so hope it gets overturned. Glad that there will be some framework changes though and thanks for clearing some stuff up mods)
July 10, 20169 yr The ones that got vetoed probably would, but they would have to accept it if its a fair veto
July 10, 20169 yr Resubmitting in a second, but will this contest fall under the upcoming framework or the current one? Very conflicted which route I should take.
July 10, 20169 yr Also leww you wouldn't get flack from me if you merged the framework and your own stance taking into account how many people will have heard the song and will make a discovery out of it! I'd say to lean more to the lenient side too if you're all on the fence on a particular song because I'd rather songs that people were passionate about got through if they're not overly cheap and you're not totally sure on it. Would cause less meltdowns too
July 10, 20169 yr Oh my goodness at all this. I can sympathise on some level, of course, having received 15 (I think) vetoes over the years, it sucks, and back when Jess Mills was vetoed first time round in a pre-framework BJSC it was just as much of a THING. But really, as someone who views what the mods do/say, it's a really bloody difficult job and they are damned if they do, damned if they don't. It used to be they couldn't use their judgement, because they were biased against certain posters. So the framework came in to remove any bias, then people moaned that it wasn't comprehensive enough. Now it's TOO comprehensive and restrictive and the mods are being shot down for not using their personal judgement. It's probably the hardest job on all of Buzzjack and I know tempers and emotions are running wild given the circumstances, but there are better ways to deal with it than launch into multi page attacks on the mods. As for the comments I saw dotted along the way about the framework potentially curtailing discoveries and/or making the contest less exciting, I think that's an utter crock. The real reason the contest has got less exciting and discoveries fewer and farther between is because of the growing homogeneity of entries, with people more and more focusing on doing WELL, rather than sending a song people will love. Yes, the two can and often do occur naturally together, but so often that isn't the case. And before any stones are thrown, I DO live in a glass house with regards to this, so I am well aware that I'm not innocent.
July 10, 20169 yr I think this kind of thing puts some people off signing up for mod positions tbh
July 10, 20169 yr Yes, the two can and often do occur naturally together, but so often that isn't the case. Bring me back Gessafelstein and Elite Gymnastics into the medal positions pls.
July 10, 20169 yr I agree that people's attitudes have contributed to how I feel about BJSC, it's unfair to just blame mods because the framework only exists because a past crisis of BJSC where people would be cheap as possible with a known popular song so they had a high chance of doing well, this is similar as people recently seem to be focusing so much on doing well that they're plastering potentials all over the place so people hear them all and they can get opinions. People should go with their hearts more often! I'm not saying this and pretending I don't do the same sometimes because I do, but like with Annalisa for example I loved it too mch to not send it. I thought it would be a borderline Q and come like 31st at best, but even if it had DNQ'd, I'd rather have sent it and a few people got a discovery from it, than hunted for a hit I didn't care much about. This is supposed to be about discoveries and it's supposed to be a bit of fun but too many people treat it way too seriously, hound the mods for no reason a lot of the time (I of course don't mean what happened today, I think this was a discussion that was needed) and it ends up being less fun and more of a chore to actively participate.

Well that has been a problem for years, there's always the songs I forget pretty quickly but (I might as well say this now as it's relevant), I've been organising my favourite BJSC entries from all the 50 contests I've entered to celebrate my milestone and it's all fairly evenly spread among the eras at least in my shortlist. But I'm all for the latest reminder of 'send what you love' instead of send what you think others will love, I didn't send my favourite song of the moment last month, which was a mistake really, so as its appeal has lasted, I'm sending it this month and I'm feeling remarkably relaxed about how it does, even though it is my anniversary entry and I'd love to do well on my anniversary, as long as someone else enjoys what I'm enjoying that'll be fine enough.
July 10, 20169 yr I always think it's so much more satisfying when you do grab an unexpected smash with your favourite song too. Even a top five would feel hollow to me if I sent it purely to try and get a smash. It's all about the pride you feel in people sharing the same passion for a song you love I think, and knowing people are making a great discovery out of something you're championing. Every now and then I used to be tempted to turn to the dark (chasing a hit) side, if I had a particularly bad run of form, but it's been quite some time since the last time I did that...looking back it was Bad Boys Cry by Mark Lower in 2013 - I liked it - didn't love it - but thought it would smash but it was a DNQ - lesson learnt. I just can't bring myself to send something I can't get fully behind myself anymore.
