I don't think it's the worst song ever, but it is far, far from being the best ever, maybe that is it's secret that it is so middling that it appeals to people broadly.

It may never appear on anyone's top 10 of all time but it will never be in there bottom 10 either and that is the secret.

It's on mine

It really is a matter of opinion about it being one of the best singles in a long time. I think it's an awful song and know quite a few other people who don't like it too.

Well you are definitely in the minority because the charts worldwide say otherwise.

You are from Leeds so you the exception as people from Leeds are :D ;)

ooooooh i like that (DJ KHALED VOICE)

Couldn't have said it better myself

She's a far more established artist though. Kiwanuka released one previous album ages ago and it was a flop relative to the amount of hype he had with the Sound of win. I wouldn't have predicted his new album would even be top 20!

He has got quite a bit of critical praise for it as well, which alongside good radio 2 support is usually enough of an incentive for some to give it a go.

Popular doesn't = always mean good,

Love, hate, like or dislike the Drake song ( I hate it) it is very popular right now, but I would safely bet the song will never be heard in 5 years time and most people will never remember it. There s nothing classic about the song at all and it would be an insult to the chart history books if this song ends up the longest running number 1 ever.

Bryan Adams everything I do is a song that is still remembered to this day and still gets played on radio stations, at weddings, events etc ( never loved or hated the song myself and likewise now). Do the people that think the Drake song is brilliant honestly believe it will be played on radio, at weddings etc in years to come?

Like or hate the Bryan Adams song it has certainly proved why it was and is the longest running number 1 as its seen as a classic.

Everyone said the same things about Gnarls Barkley Crazy and Umbrella...

I wouldn't say so, I mean I wasn't as clued up back then and some of their weeks may have been by default, but they definitely had a lot more cultural impact (though Umbrella is somewhat overshadowed by what followed in her discography) and were radio staples, you could instantly tell they were smash hits in the making and were some of the defining songs of their respective years that still hold up today. I just don't think One Dance is the same as he's had much more impactful singles in his discography that I would say it's very unlikely it will be remembered in five-ten years (apart from being the song that clearly showed how big effect a well streamed song can have).

Well if "One Dance" is as forgettable as any Kanye West or Jay-Z song I'm sure it'll do fine. After all, "Ni**as In Paris" is still in the top 200 on Spotify and getting more streams now than ever. That song is 4 years, 11 months & 2 weeks old. I guess everyone will stop listening to it in a fortnight.

Once again its all about demographics - for some One Dance will be remembered for years to come. I have not heard Bryan Adams everything I do in the last decade. Why? because it is just never played in any scene i go to. Regardless it is a fantastic song and i still give it props.

Jay Z and Kanye songs are forgotten? Once again that's an inaccurate statement - they may be forgotten in your world - Even JAY Zs first album (Reasonable Doubt) from the 90s is played heavily in some circles. Dont even get me started on Kanye - his songs from the late 2000s are still in heavy rotation.

I for one am just happy that I can appreciate music from all genres.

I'm not trying to be ageist or whatever, but in 20 years time the Drake song WILL be remembered by mostly everyone of an adult age. The majority of you moaning were teenagers or kids when Bryan Adams was at number one - hence why you remember the song so well!

I am a teenager and I can safely say that One Dance will go down as a classic for my generation, for years to come.

The charts have always been mostly influenced by a young generation, One Dance's success is just another example of that.

Y'all need to stop moaning, just accept the fact One Dance has been the most successful song of recent times.

Agree wholeheartedly with the last two posts... To say Drake, Jay Z and Kanye tracks are all forgettable is blatantly ridiculous.

To most people in the street they are forgettable, go and ask people in the street to name a Drake, JayZ or Kanye song or even ask if they know who they are see what repsonse you get?

Then ask people in the street to name a Cliff Richard, Rod Stewart or Boyzone song and I bet you will get a different response.

Surely it's largely dependent on the age of the person you're asking. Boyzone for instance last had a major hit in my country 18 years ago, so it's entirely reasonable that a lot of 25 year olds couldn't name one of their songs. In 20 years time those 25 year olds will be 45 year olds and have no reason to have learnt the names of any of their songs in those intervening years, but I'm sure they'll remember "Gold Digger", "Empire State Of Mind" etc.

Neither set of artists is inherently forgettable, they just mean different things to different generations.

indeed.

If you asked people in the 12-25 age bracket, a good percentage of them would be able to name Drake, Kanye and Jay songs (also Rihanna, Beyoncé, Justin Bieber, Ed Sheeran, Adele and Calvin Harris).

I find the argument which song will be remembered or not ridiculous. Who can foresee what will come in 20 years?

But normally from a statistical point of view One Dance will surely be remembered.

On the other hand there were a couple of years ago songs I thought will be remembered and I forgot already and they don't get played whilst other songs are being played and I thought they are forgettable.

I promise I'll stop posting on the matter after this, but one more thing I want to add is that "One Dance" doesn't have a video yet, and if/when it does, that could add a whole new layer to it. I mean "Hotline Bling" was already shaping up as a big hit under similar circumstances to "One Dance", but then the video happened and pretty much cemented itself as the focal point of the song, turning it into one of the most widely known songs of the year. Won't necessarily happen to "One Dance" but I'll reserve my judgement until the whole story is over.
I personally think One Dance will be remembered... but also think Hotline Bling will be better remembered than One Dance
