November 24, 20169 yr This is what I have found to be the highest debut sales for an album by a girl group: 191,856 | Spice Girls - Spiceworld (#1, 1997) 155,000 | Spice Girls - Spice (#1, 1996) * 117,967 | Destiny's Child - Survivor (#1, 2001) 85,717 | Girls Aloud - What Will the Neighbours Say? (#6, 2004) 85,670 | Girls Aloud - Out of Control (#1, 2008) 84,354 | Girls Aloud - The Sound of Girls Aloud: The Greatest Hits (#1, 2006) 84,000 | All Saints - Saints & Sinners (#1, 2000) 81,962 | Girls Aloud - Chemistry (#11, 2005) 81,231 | Little Mix - Glory Days (#1, 2016) 80,000 | Atomic Kitten - Feels So Good (#1, 2002) 75,787 | Spice Girls - Greatest Hits (#2, 2007) 73,390 | Spice Girls - Forever (#2, 2000) 67,996 | Destiny's Child - Destiny Fulfilled (#5, 2004) 65,781 | Sugababes - Taller in More Ways (#1, 2005) 64,772 | Sugababes - Angels With Dirty Faces (#2, 2002) 63,118 | Sugababes - Three (#3, 2003) 60,053 | Little Mix - Get Weird (#2, 2015) * In regards to Spice, Music Week revealed (on the week their Greatest Hits debuted) that it debuted with 114,305, meaning its sales had since been downgraded). I've put Glory Days in there for comparison, although it will have no trouble becoming fourth. Didn't even give Destiny's Child a second thought. Brilliant sales for them.
November 24, 20169 yr Author Liam, what were poor Tangled Up's opening sales? I can't seem to find them online.
November 24, 20169 yr Liam, what were poor Tangled Up's opening sales? I can't seem to find them online. I'm not Liam, but... 49,065. Or 55,212 if you count the Mixed Up version which charted separately. http://www.buzzjack.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=56903 Edited November 24, 20169 yr by iain
November 24, 20169 yr Mixed Up isn't a "version" of Tangled Up, it's a megamix you could buy if you bought the album in Woolworths. There's only one song in common.
November 24, 20169 yr Mixed Up isn't a "version" of Tangled Up, it's a megamix you could buy if you bought the album in Woolworths. There's only one song in common. I was surprised to see it charting separately so that would be why. So 49,065. Edited November 24, 20169 yr by iain
November 24, 20169 yr Author Little Mix are on 88k today, so I predict around 96/97k given there's usually a little boost from missing data/upweighting from Thursday to Friday. Looking at 1D last year (not as a comparsion of artists, but because they're on very similar sales at the same time of year); Wednesday Midweek: 80.5k Thursday Midweek: 85.5k (5k additional sales) Friday Total: 93k (7.5k additional sales) (significant increase from any missing data + upweighted date) Little Mix Wednesday Midweek 81k (8k additional sales) Thursday Midweek 88k (7k additional sales) So with that trajectory (+ the 7k rate of yesterday as well any extra), I'd say 96/97k looks likely.
November 24, 20169 yr Many thanks for the projection Joe, a 20% off the Regular Edition on Amazon (down to £7.99) should help with a marginal boost as well.
November 24, 20169 yr Author Many thanks for the projection Joe, a 20% off the Regular Edition on Amazon (down to £7.99) should help with a marginal boost as well. Oh, is that a Black Friday deal?
November 24, 20169 yr Many thanks for the projection Joe, a 20% off the Regular Edition on Amazon (down to £7.99) should help with a marginal boost as well. That could help it get a few extra hundred / thousand copies. This is exciting. They will defo sell over 100K in the week before / around Christmas though. Platinum by Christmas.
November 24, 20169 yr Oh, is that a Black Friday deal? Seems to be a part of their Black Friday Sale which stretches for the week (not totally sure when this was introduced though). Interesting Promotion at the bottom for some (Michael Bublé – Christmas for £3 if you buy a qualifying Album), may yet ensure the Christmas Album overtakes his new Album this week.

I've put Glory Days in there for comparison, although it will have no trouble becoming fourth. That's one hell of a retrospective downgrade for 'Spice'! It's down by 26.25%. It makes me wonder how much we can trust ANY historic stats, on anything.
November 24, 20169 yr Liam, what were poor Tangled Up's opening sales? I can't seem to find them online. Yeah, as mentioned, it was 49k. I don't know what happened there - perhaps the lead single wasn't as well received or a lack of promo? Still, 'Call the Shots' kept it selling over Christmas and 'Can't Speak French' helped the album almost return to the Top 10 and it sold half a million in total, so it proved to have stronger legs than Chemistry for instance.
November 24, 20169 yr Author Sexy No No No was very out there. It didn't win them many new fans. SNNN <3 They managed to get the general public back on with Call The Shots though.
November 24, 20169 yr Yeah, as mentioned, it was 49k. The album was released on the back of "Call the shots" actually so it kind of is the lead single. Its chart run is great anyway, and both CTS and CSF were major hits. :cheer:
November 24, 20169 yr SNNN <3 They managed to get the general public back on with Call The Shots though. Definitely. They are my favourite two singles of theirs.

I remember them being in the top 10 when Chemistry charted at 11.
November 24, 20169 yr The Sugababes decline is so sad in hindsight, it's impressive Girls Aloud managed the sales they got for that many years.
November 24, 20169 yr Didn't Sugababes end up selling more than their debut weeks with a few of their albums? I remember them being in the top 10 when Chemistry charted at 11. They did yeah. In fact, quite a few times, girl groups managed sales of 100k+ in December.
