January 14, 20179 yr Author A little bit dangerous, but that's how I want it 1ekZEVeXwek 04. Ariana Grande - Into You HausofLust Woman of the moment, runner of pop 2016, Ariana's biggest single from me from her last era storms into my EOY top 5. Into You is a perfect representation of the theme, sound and quality of the album as a whole. It's about falling in deep love with something tantalisingly dangerous and out of bounds and the sheer ecstasy from doing so. As it builds in the opening verse, you would be mistaken to think the song is a slowed down, electro-pop ballad but the rise in pre-chorus and eventual explosion in chorus confirms it is a full on banger full of release and passion. A big club number that peaks and dips throughout, always staying one step ahead of the listener. Her vocals are perfect for such a euphoric and lustful song and her personality shines as her shy, coy nature is revealed throughout. The 'conversation' hook is fun and the sentiments are brilliant for fully embracing those around you and loving in the spark of the moment. She has confirmed herself as a big pop entity with this era, album and singles and Into You is a fine example of the quality of music she can produce and the relatable nature of her lyrics and demeanor.
January 14, 20179 yr Into You is absolutely fab so great to see it pop up so highly here! Definitely one of my favourites of 2016 and my favourite ever Ariana track! <3
January 15, 20179 yr Author I live in madness. I live in sadness. K2NopIx3sTg 03. Highasakite - Golden Ticket HausofHope We move to the top 3 and competition really hots up as throughout the year these final 3 songs all had a time at the top, but this is my final ranking with all things considered. Golden Ticket is a song of hope, faith and belief. The title is the ticket itself, a ticket to a place of freedom and brilliance. It opens with a lament, God should he be watching, would see nothing but dismay and sadness. But it moves away from the ethereal to something more in the here and now: love. Love becomes a ticket to escape this state of sadness and despair and the song expertly explores this through its synths and the star-studded vocals of the lead singer. In the chorus she chants with such vigour and life that only love can cause. The middle-8 is extremely opening, where the singer details that she lives in a state of madness, recklessness, silence, sadness.. but without allowing her to remain here the song returns to one final, almighty chorus that explodes vanquishing all of these states of being and leaving nothing but an escape to some sort of hope and happiness. It is a truly wondrous song, and one that needs to be heard multiple times because it genuinely has the power to lift your spirits and realise that there is always hope and light at the end of the tunnel. It helped me to make sense of the crazy experiences I went through last year, constantly reminding me that music and love was the key to opening up your mind to the goodness in life. A cathartic, incredibly powerful song. Love is the ride, the high, the light needed in all the darkness and this song in itself is pure love and the only ticket needed to escape sadness and depression.

January 17, 20179 yr Author f*** it, keep on going U9ZO2Px0zww 02. Kiiara - Feels (Jai Wolf Remix) HausofEmotion Has any song from the last 12 months summed me up better than this? Probably not but especially through the single lyric "I got way too many feels". So when you stumble across a remix of the song that repeats this throughout, merged with a sensationally trippy and electrifying beat you're onto a real winner. The original of the song is sublime, beautiful and emotional - this remix is fractured, distorted and totally reflective of what having too many feels actually feels like. Kiiara's vocals are tinged with a sense of sadness and loss and they relentlessly beat against Jai Wolf's masterful production. It's fresh life into the song and makes it undeniably catchy and re-playable. The soaring synths make this the perfect song to blast out at full volume, completely getting lost in the sea of emotions and feels it conjures up and reminds you of. A nighttime song for sure, long live those lonely thoughts. Last year was filled with a heap of emotions, boyfriend, love, loss, personal breakdown, joy, solidarity, loneliness, friendship and everything in between. This song summaries that in perfect fashion because you stop thinking about what is real as you get deeper and deeper into yourself. But despite the sheer wealth of emotions your mind goes through the simple cry to "f*** it.. keep going" is what makes this song one of the most empowering and real moments of music released in the past 12 months for me. It's so relatable but not quite the signature song that defined 2016.. So what was :o

January 18, 20179 yr Author I can't control my mind 8mL-uPIfwco 01. Ariana Grande - Thinking Bout You HausofLove Almost right Count Olaf :o The #1 song from the #1 album for me, there was no other. A song that hit me instantaneously and went on to be the biggest song of the year in all of its glory, so let me try to explain some aspects of what that involves. Firstly it's the album closer. The album is full of dangerous loves, risky fiascos and moments of love you should probably stay away from but don't. But the final track of the album is a culmination of all of these feelings, and represents the intense devotion to which you can love someone else, dangerously. The opening verse sets the scene of a lonely lover waiting for their star to arrive. It's delivered delicately and with heartfelt emotion.. but of course this does not last as her mind loses control and as the memories come crashing back she crescendos into an ecstasy of pain, remorse and sadness. The chorus is blindingly beautiful, as her soaring vocals scream out the cries of her love-torn heart. The second verse returns to normality as she still waits patiently, longing for her love to return. As the song reaches its climax it becomes a sheer moment of perfection. The middle-8 builds and builds until finally, in a glorious explosion of synths and Ari's vocals she releases all with that final repeated chorus ringing in your ears long after the song closes. She ends it thinking about her lover, who clearly has still not arrived and it brings with it a crushing realisation that perhaps he never will return. The album closes with a mixture of ecstasy and total despair and it's these combined emotions that make this, for me, the most beautifully crafted and delivered song of 2016. The song reflects any state of longing that we face and though it is simple at heart, deep down it is a perfect representation of loss, lust and adoration. Undeniable feelings of wanting more but never quite receiving it and constantly pining for something good to remain. A universal message but more than anything a stunning, perfect pop song that has you thinking about all you have loved and lost and cared for in 3 glorious minutes. I'm just thinkin' bout you
January 18, 20179 yr Great song, I really love it as a closer to the album, works perfectly. Amazing EOY in general - in depth and passionate! Here's to more good music in 2017!
January 18, 20179 yr What a stunning #1  the middle 8 gives me goosebumps every time, I am praying that she performs this on tour because it will be a spine-tingling moment, so pumped for that. A great countdown to follow as always, love the in-depth commentaries and I can't wait to find out what music we'll both be sharing over the next year!!
January 18, 20179 yr Lovely #3, I definitely appreciate it a lot for its joyfulness. Not as much as you, but it's a very good song - and you have written some excellent deep thoughts on it.
January 18, 20179 yr Must hear your top 2 (the original Feels is pretty good, but clearly I'm missing a better one), as I really like most of this top 10 - Starboy was definitely a step back up for the Weeknd, and Into You was amazingly infectious. Golden Ticket is really quite a great pop song too, probably my second favourite from them after Darth Vader. Hopefully more musical bonding in 2017 ;o Edited January 18, 20179 yr by Chez Wombat
January 19, 20179 yr I kind of expected Thinking of You high but not number one but it is a very lovely song
January 19, 20179 yr 'Thinking Bout You' really is incredible, and you've described its themes beautifully. Like Joseph, keeping everything crossed that she does it on tour. *Nervous* Sorry that I dipped into your EOY so late *browses through the rest of it very soon  * ;o
January 21, 20179 yr Not heard that Ariana track, I'll be sure to check it out. Feels was a nice song, I think I remember hearing that remix somewhere, really helps elevate the track.
February 2, 20179 yr Ariana has been such a highlight for me in 2016  Her album was my fave of last year, especially 'Thinking Bout You' and 'Into You'. Cannot wait to see her live! Great countdown.
