But when does that actually start in 2 charts?

Yeh this time last year we didn't realise James Arthur would be so big again so anything can happen!

Yeah I assume it's the first week of the chart year in 2017, which'll be in two charts time :D

I know, although the chart isn't what it was ten years ago we still get the odd shock, and hopefully the reduction of stream impact will help obscure tracks that do well on sales chart

If it has appeared before, i missed it. Always thought it was odd that it rarely appears in the itunes top 1500 considering how much retail likes to hammer it

It is one of those random 90s Xmas songs I've never listened to much and don't consider a classic, must give it another listen!

It should be interesting to see although I'm sure it won't have much of an immediate impact just shorten tracks hanging about etc - hope it doesn't cause songs to enter then leave the top 40 before re-entering - hate that!

I assume it will do that :heehee: I assume it'll help semi-big acts that go top 20 on sales reach the low top 40 for a week, for example dance acts - they always tend to do well first week on sales (Galantis, Sigala and Sigma's recent releases for examples), but miss out on top 40 because of streaming, so the changes will probably help them getting a higher debut.

I love getting BRAND new entries in the top fourty so I'm all for it!

Yeah I know, looks like it'll be a great musical year

Also we seem to be forgetting that the Streaming ratio is changing, that's bound to go against Clean Bandit so I assume they'll be off the top spot the week the change comes into effect.

I can't see the streaming change effecting CB much. Once Xmas songs have gone they'll be back to number one on spotify and they're very close to no.1 again on iTunes... so they'll be no.1 on iTunes and Spotify by next week due to TOTP

What'd she perform?

Anything you can do (I Can Do Better), Diamonds Are Forever, Big Spender, I (Who Have Nothing), I Am What I Am amongst a few rarities.

The show sadly got ruined by David Walliams and his pointless sketches between every performance.

But they're bound to fall away again on iTunes once the gift card effect wears off.

Plus if you assume they keep on 378k streams a day into the New Year, they're gaining 2,520 sales from streams compared to 3,780 prior to the ratio change. That means over the course of a week they lose 8820 sales from Spotify alone compared to what they're currently selling, and judging by the sales differences in the charts at the moment 8820 sales could certainly realistically be the difference between #1 and #2.

I like a smooth climb for genuinely popular tracks - my ocd hates high entries who fall then reemerge!

I like having high new entries, I've always preferred having a chart with fresh songs at the top as opposed to songs that I've kind of got over at the top.

There are exceptions though, for example I was still loving I Took A Pill In Ibiza when it finally reached #1 although it had been out of months, but I usually like the songs in the chart to be new and fresh.

I believe the way it is now is much superior to the chart in 2014 when we had a new preorder heavy no1 each week - many of them never to be heard again - can anyone remember Rixton??
 15. Louisa Johnson

Climbing again! Great longevity

I think this could be one of those tracks that gets a surprising gift card boost.
961. Saint Etienne - I Was Born On Christmas Day

Sure this must be the first time i've seen this in the itunes chart!

It was on the TOTP xmas compilation show on BBC Four tonight.

I have that taped - really looking forward to watching it and the TOTPs 2 Christmas episode!

Yeah it's 59p too which gives it a great advantage. It could get a new peak?

So who do we think is going to get the gift card boost (Even though the gift card effect seems less and less each year).

I think the following could do well -

The Vamps - All Night

Niall - This Town

Louisa Johnson - So Good

James Arthur - Say You Won't Let Go

Charli XCX - After The Afterparty
