2016 has been a year of tremendous change for Tim Bergling, aka Avicii. In March, the Swedish icon announced his retirement from touring, later performing his last show in August at Ushuaia in Ibiza. Now, in another definitive move, he’s officially parted ways with his long-time manager Ash Pournouri.

 

A representative from Avicii’s camp confirmed the news to Billboard: “2x Grammy-nominated songwriter/producer Tim Bergling and his production/publishing entity Avicii Music AB have parted ways with manager Ash Pournouri, At Night Management. Bergling is signed to Universal Music Sweden and is expected to release an album next year.”

 

In many ways, Avicii’s rise to international stardom has inextricably intertwined with Pournouri and his molding of the producer. Under Universal Music Sweden and no longer tied to At Night Management, we may very well be seeing a new vision for the Avicii brand in 2017.

 

Avicii’s departure from At Night Management follows that of Axwell Ingrosso, who left Pournouri’s team in September to rejoin with former manager Amy Thompson. His impending new album for 2017 follows 2013’s True and 2015’s Stories.

Set your phasers to hype! Avicii has just teased his first new music since 2015’s Stories (not counting his 2016 track for Coca-Cola).

 

Posted on Instagram against a backdrop of Machu Pichu, Avicii writes, “New music coming (very) soon!” along with a variety of hashtags, presumably relating to track titles. The song in the Instagram post is undoubtedly the first hashtag, “Friend Of Mine,” featuring powerful vocals and a distinctly folksy timbre.

Friend of Mine sounds like it could be INCREDIBLE in CDQ (as I assume it was just playing from a speaker in that clip). So so excited <3

Hopefully I can be back in full on stan mode and this is better than the Pure Grinding era.

listened to the audio teaser about five times so far, I am so ready for the full song though it sounds amaaaazing. :wub:

I didn't really like anything from Stories, I hope the time away has helped him find a sense of quality again.

Not keen on the 2 EPs idea, can he not just put all the songs on one album? :huh: Yay for rough dates though!

Well 'Lord' ruins the sentence I thought he was creating with his album titles :P That teaser gives me hope though! :D
