I can't lie, it is incredibly frustrating to come second for the 4th time and to now have 6 medals but none of them gold - I now solely hold that record :lol:! At the same time, it's so nice to see the constant support for my entries over my five and a half years participating and I know that some countries only dream of a single second place so I really am so grateful for 4 of them! This entry was probably my least "planned" ever, grabbing a 5-year-old track that I was reminded of back in November and just throwing it out there. Once the shockingly good odds started coming in I thought maybe, just maybe after trying so hard in the past but not quite getting there, the totally opposite approach might just do it for me!

 

Nevertheless this one was much easier to swallow than Elen, Alida and Listenbee who I think all topped their respective leaderboards at some point. Sirusho only popped into second at the end there for the first time since the first couple of votes. Thanks again for all of the points, after a consistent if not wowing performance from my last year it is great to start 2017 with such a good finish and my best finish since this time 2 years ago. :heart:

I was mostly referring to the fact that no one had any good winning contenders except for Monopoly and people weren't even that sure on it so we were expecting it to be a close race when in fact we should have been expecting the opposite. Contenders coming from nowhere are unfortunately rare these days even though I'm always hoping for one under-talked about track to smash and win because those are the best experiences.

 

I mean, let's not forget here that it was only 2 contests ago that Crystal Waters won in a very close contest after being pegged as a contender by literally no one (and to your earlier post about not having close contests any more, 'Fate' only won by 8 points even though it was a widely predicted winner!)

 

I think in general the consensus on the winner happens BECAUSE it's on course to get a landslide when we get these kinds of 'obvious landslide winners', I don't think there's much effect the other way round, it's tempting to think that's the case especially when said big winner is not your own favourite but I think that's just a kind of confirmation bias.

That's pretty bittersweet that my favourite song in the contest beat me to qualifying by just four points, I mean it's not like I would've given that anything less so I guess you can say I'm content with that.

 

Sorryyyy :'( (if it makes you feel any better I don't think your song would have got higher than 2 points from me even if I did do more listens so I'm glad the gap at least wasn't *that* small, especially as I'd have been in danger of kicking myself out if it was :kink:)

Summericia's entry I would argue isn't really witch house, with the buildups, climaxes and the big synths it definitely has a lot of trance influence there too. The beat also doesn't really sound very housey to me, the beat is more of a trap/future bass/hip hop type. Witch house is generally more subdued I thought?

 

Anyway it was a great tune.

 

Well done to SamCam for winning by the way, even though I prefer Laplander by easyFun, Monopoly is still a great track.

Trap influence is there for sure, I can't really hear any trance though. To my ears it's witch house through and through though!
