Her career isn't going DOWN THE DRAIN. She's less immediately successful than she was and her "star" is fading slightly, as many artists do by their fourth era. Bruno Mars did about as well as this when 24k Magic first came out, his star is fading slightly but his career is certainly far from down the drain, it's just very tough to maintain the level of success she had for very long, it's hardly a flop.

Agreed.

Teenage Dream was nearly 7 years ago and that album was a huge success with every single released being a hit. To expect her to stay at that level is simply unattainable.

My point was that her star was already fading in the last era - nothing to do with Rise

disagree, think Rise was the first mis-step

she was still as big as before during Prism, especially in the US

LMAO at all the over reactions to Katy this soon into it's chart life.

Name one huge hit (that isn't Ed or Adele) that started off as a massive hit? Drake is the only one I can think of.

Edit: oh and Little Mix, I guess! But they had huge promo and buzz due to premiering it on X Factor!

Rihanna, no. People were labelling 'Work' as a flop originally! Iirc! :o

Forgot about Bieber tbh.

Work seemed such an instant hit though, especially in the clubs.

Where did 'Work' debut on the Spotify chart?

It didn't get added to Spotify until nearly 2 weeks after its release (when ANTi came out which was 10 days later specifically), but then it went straight in at #5. Work would have been official #1 had it have been on Spotify.

Pretty annoying that considering she hasn't had a no1 since when...2012?

Dark Horse and Roar in the last era are two of her biggest selling singles though? Birthday and Unconditionally weren't great single choices, and This is How We Do got minimal support.

Exactly. Unconditionally did pretty well I'd say for the third (?) single.

Dark Horse might honestly be her biggest hit in the US, going just by chart runs. Radio would not let go of that song there. I believe it's her longest charting song on the Hot 100 too.

My point is, Prism gave Katy two of the biggest hits of her career. That alone is enough to call the era a success. It might not have matched the success of Teenage Dream, but that was never going to happen. Teenage Dream is one of those eras that comes once in an artist's career.

The problem with that era was the single choices. Walking On Air should've been released, especially with the resurgence of deep house in 2014.

It was the second single. Dark Horse was third
