Well Linkin Park collaborating with Kiiara was never going to be a heavy rock song anyway

They've worked with lots of mainstream producers in the past, but none of the work with them has been quite so un-Linkin Park in sound? That's my take on it anyway, without knowing it was them I'd have absolutely no idea! Such an odd direction for them to go in...

The song IS very good though, surely the fans should be happy they've got a potential hit on their hands?

tbh I don't think casual fans care for chart positions

Yeah, it's a jam in my opinion - though I tend to enjoy most 'trendhopping' songs so it's no surprise I'm a fan.

I mean devoted fans, like they may be miffed that the song isn't exactly what they wanted, but you'd think they'd at least be happy that it could do well in the charts. I know I'd feel that way if Bastille had a chart hit on their hands - even if I didn't particularly like the song I'd still be proud of them.

LP have worked with loads of people in the mainstream in the past though, Jay Z, Eminem, Steve Aoki, Busta Rhymes and they've used the same producers as Adele and Gaga on past albums so they're hardly new to trend chasing. Just because they're sounding a little less stuck in the past this time it doesn't make it automatically the most sell out thing they've done.

Maybe I've not been following them enough over the past few years (I used to be a big fan, but lost interest some time ago), but their stuff with Steve Aoki and hell even What I've Done at least had some semblence of their old sound in it (and I really liked those songs), but I don't think I've heard anything this sellout from them before, the Chainsmokers-esque sound, featuring an artist who had a US #1 last year...it all seems so much more desperate and unnatural than usual. Like Cremey said, I wouldn't have been able to tell it's them, which hasn't happened with an LP song before. (not that I blame em I guess for wanting to make a quick buck, but it may not even work :x)

Kiiara wasn't ever #1 was she?

Just heard the new LP song. I like it, but it's SO un-like them that this can be considered as a "sell out". I've been an occasional fan of LP in the past ('Hybrid Theory' remains one of my favourite ever albums!) but this is such a huge shift in sound for them that it will definitely alienate their core fanbase. Whether it brings in new ones to replace them with, who knows, but lets be honest, they've barely been "huge" since about 2006-ish. They've had big albums, but nothing to the levels of their early-mid noughties stuff!

I'm pretty sure it did go #1 on itunes over there tbf  I think it was something like #15 overall because obviously there's airplay factored in in the US as well as streaming, but it was still a huge hit.

It's also written by Julia Michaels and Justin Tranter I just read, it really does seem like chasing a hit :/

oh maybe I got that wrong then lol, was a big surprise hit though iirc

Yeah, Gold was massive over there. I do agree they've sold out, but I still really like the track.
