So Ed will probably do around 660k now I would imagine with being on 541k today. Maybe a little higher with added streams bringing it closer to 700k. Glad Adele's 800k opening is safe and she keeps that record.

As The Doors sang:

This is the end, beautiful friend

This is the end, my only friend, the end

Of our elaborate plans, the end

Of everything that stands, the end

The chart is a BRITISH institution. It's part of the fabric of British popular culture. Sure, the chart isn't that important anymore - when the internet came along and you could download music it made the top 40 a bit irrelevant, and I don't think the overall quality of chart music improved when things went digital - but the chart, imperfect as it is, was worth keeping.

What the OCC have done is, no exaggeration, disgraceful. As I bored you lot with an earlier post where I mentioned Justin Bieber's eight album tracks and the OCC did sod all about it, so that was the warning sign, that was the omen things were going to get worse for the chart. And then Ed Sheeran comes along with his drippy pop and he appeals to teen girls and women that used to like Take That but prefer Sheeran to Gary Barlow and his fanbase swells and they've hijacked the chart. The OCC has let Sheeran's large fanbase hijack the singles chart with these album songs and are they gonna apologize for this disaster? Heck, no.

I'll put money on Friday evening's OCC website praising "RECORD BREAKING" Ed Sheeran! They won't admit it's a disaster. They'll pretend everything is fine in chart land.

Chart fans will see through their charade. The chart won't recover from this. I pray it doesn't. I said the chart was worth keeping but not after this scandal. It should die. Let a new chart format replace it. Perhaps some decent compromise format can be worked out. Who knows, this might be a blessing in disguise. Sheeran and the lame ass OCC destroy the chart and its replaced with something better. I hope so.

Charts are supposed to represent the popularity of music. Ed Sheeran's music happens to be by far the most popular right now. Yeah, most other artists can't compete with him right now.

Who are you to dictate what the people should buy or stream?

I think I'm less worried about chart rules than I am about the bland tastes of the masses tbh. How did we become such an uninteresting nation?
It's bad, but it's not worth making a huge deal over! I bet the OCC will make a rule to change things after this week anyway tbh, I can't see them welcoming the redunance of the chart with open arms.
Amongst all the drama in here, where did that X Japan album come from :o

The most interesting thing is Fleetwood Mac's Rumours selling negative 711 copies yesterday!

Who are the OCC to misrepresent the chart? It's called THE OFFICIAL UK SINGLES CHART

It's not called

The Official UK Singles Chart With Album Tracks Added

A single is a single. A single is supposed to be one unit - hence the term, I guess. Not part of an album. Music acts are supposed to have one single at a time. That's the format, the rules. But now the OCC has said "**** the rules, there are no rules. Ed Sheeran can have all his album tracks in the chart. We don't give a sh*t!"

I'm not telling people what they can or cannot stream. I'm stating that the OCC is marketing a false product - a singles chart full of album tracks. In law, a company can be prosecuted for misrepresentation. The OCC is no different to a company intentionally misleading the customer. Come Friday the chart is dead to me. I'll moan for a day and feel sad the chart ended up like this, but then forget about it. The streamers won. The chart purists lost.

How can you confirm they don't give a shit - for all we know they could introduce a rule after Friday's chart that changes the way album tracks are counted in the charts...

Music acts are supposed to have one single at a time.
This has not been the case for years. Justin Bieber had three singles doing incredibly well at the same time just over a year ago. Popular acts often have two singles on the go.

I really hope that the ridiculousness of making this statement, on International Women's Day of all days, is not lost on you. 1) You are stereotyping an entire fanbase and 2) even if it were true pray tell on what ludicrous grounds do you manage to hold the opinion that because they are women and teen girls that their music choices matter less. Predictable misogynistic rubbish trying to undermine women's choices.

What's actually ridiculous about that statement is it's not true. Ed Sheeran is just as popular with men as with women, with young as with the old. It's why he's doing so well right now, he just has a ridiculous amount of cross-appeal.

You seem to be ignoring people reminding you that album tracks have been able to chart for TEN YEARS now, thanks to the inclusion of downloads in the chart. Emeli Sandé's Read All About It Pt III charted in the top 5 despite never ever being pushed as a single. Like it or not, it's been this way for a long time, streaming has just amplified it. Every song is a single of sorts in the digital era. You might not like it but you need to accept that the chart hasn't been singles-only for a loooong time. The OCC have not "f***ed the rules", nothing's changed.

As many people have said it stopped being a singles chart the moment downloads were invented and you can cherry pick songs from an album

Also is the issue ed Sheeran or the issue the who.e album has charted so high

Stormzy , Justin beiber, drake , the weekend all had half their albums in the chart on realease week yet nowhere near the fuzz so to say this week is the death of the charts is ridiculous

The charts are about what's popular that week and obviously the whole album is popular for it to be continually streamed

One thing people missing at least we got 13 new entries this week so many been complaining charts been stale:lol:
