Ohhh, I never thought of it as being a intentionally failed recreation of the Bad Blood video! I actually like that idea because it was putting me off how RANDOM all the cameos are and how none of them really go together. It's a good contrast to Taylor's ridiculous squad.

Otherwise, it really is a mess, especially her continued desire to use tired memes.

So the song is climbing on iTunes again. It's up to #32, but to make this a hit it pretty much needs to be 59p tomorrow, with Hot Songs exposure if possible, too. If the song can get to #25 or higher, Capital will playlist it, and Radio 1 will A list it the week after next. It should also get another small boost from the VMAs on Sunday too.

It also needs to go back on to the Spotify playlists, Swish peaked at #33 on Spotify months before it was getting any airplay.

I kinda doubt they will add this to Hot Hits but i'm hopeful. And yeah, discount is a must. But i fear they won't discount it.

It's #30 on iTunes now.

Doing ok on iTunes, but performing really poorly on Spotify (currently #131). I'm not sure it'll repeak now.

Well, they would if her record label buys a place on Hot Hits. That's how it works, isn't it?

Nice to see it discounted.

Let's see how much it will climb this week (#25 rn)

I like the video tbh. What were you all expecting? She literally said the video would be a mess.

Of course i'd prefer Nicki and Katy serving sexy and dancing like Side To Side but i guess Katy didn't want it. I hope it at least goes viral a bit like Bon Appétit.

So you think these two are the possibilities female pop stars have?

I can imagine several better storylines for Swish Swish video and none of them include "overeating woman" (which was appalling) or "serving sexy"

This video is so tired, not clever by any means or funny. She did the funny videos best when they were relatable (LFN is great), I don't think anyone can relate to this.

Very odd for them not to discount in the US.

#16 + #275 UK iTunes!!

And entered the top 100 in the US without discount (they should've discounted there too ugh)

I feel like after watching all three of her videos I kinda see the point of the whole Witness era.

Katy wants us to witness the truth, because often times that's the one thing everyone can't handle, and it's very apparent in these music videos. Everything is overtly exaggerated to the point where it feels unbearable, but in the end it's society looking at themselves in the mirror.

• Chained To the Rhythm took the aspect of social bubbles and closed-mindedness and created this dystopian theme park (which is a Six Flags with different signs, so there's your appeal) out of it, but then once she takes off the glasses she opens her eyes to the sheer ridiculousness of it all. It's a problem with all kinds of social spheres, in which anyone who has a differing opinion will be mocked and outcasted by that sphere. We've seen it in social media. Someone has a dissenting opinion and everyone takes it as "I hAvE a DiSsEnTiNg OpInIoN".

• Bon Appetit attacked misogyny and the objectification of women as meals. So she transformed herself into one. Of course people shamed her and said she was transforming into Miley Cyrus. There was also the fact that she tied the men up and turned them into food and no one says anything about that. The GP ends up being fixated on the overt sexuality of the video that they miss the entire point of why the idea of food came to be.

• Swish Swish ends up celebrating the whimsical and bizarre nature of the Internet with people making memes for the dumbest things, and now people are saying it's too much? Like it wasn't too much when all these memes started?

People like to run around in circles and jump through hurdles to defend their mindset and all Katy wants us to do is witness the truth. Could there have been a better execution? Of course. But if the truth has to be hyperbolized for us to even take notice, then i think she's doing a wonderful job.

Y'all are probably not gonna read this and think it's too much but it's a nice read into how this era seems to be working.

That's a really interesting interpretation on the era!

Also, I love the scene where Nicki throws the ball to Katy and tells her to "wake up".. I wonder if that's basically the end of the era and we get commercial, radio Katy back...

that would be a really clever twist!! Tbh once 'Swish Swish' is done they should just move on from this era, I loved the Witness album initially but it's tired on me quite quickly. Come back Pop Katy 😫
