How long before record companies routinely reduce the price of singles on iTunes in the week before they would be hit by ACR? :rolleyes:

Worst part of this is clearly the ten week rule because a lot of slow burners will lose momentum after this through no fault of their own!

That's basically the point, allowing for new music to reach higher peaks.

But if they fall 10 places as ACR comes in they just stick around still 10 places lower and then sometimes even recover moving up 2/3 spots which is messy for my OCD lol.

Second week in a row with zero new entries in the top 40. Not sure if that has ever happened before. The chart has never been more stagnant. 2017 may be the end of the chart as we remembered it. We've had stagnant charts since 2014 but 2017 may be the final straw.

 

Perhaps the OCC will scrap the current format in 2018 and rebrand the chart as the Official Streaming Chart because single sales have zero impact on the top 40.

I didn't realise the bogeyman was responsible for 'SÚBEME LA RADIO' and 'Rain' being #33 and #53 on streaming but #10 and #17 on the official chart.

Does it matter where a song enters as long as it climbs? We had three songs climb into the Top 40 this week which is much more important than the statistic you're quoting. And you can hardly call a chart with only 2 non-movers in the Top 100 'stagnant' - especially when you remember last year when there were 9 non-movers in the Top 10.

Well if the OCC continues to call it the Official Singles Chart then I think it's reasonable to expect some new singles in the top 40. We all know the single is more or less dead so the OCC should do the smart thing and rebrand the chart in 2018. I dunno, call it the Official Streaming Chart. Will they do that? Probably not.

 

It's worth remembering the top 100 singles chart was never seen as the gold standard - it was the top 40. Top of the Pops on BBC1 showcased the top 40, not the top 100. Radio 1's Gallup Top 40 Sunday chart was just that, the top 40, not top 100. Same with the Network Chart/ Nescafe chart/Big Top 40 on commercial radio.

It's a bit disingenuous for any chart fan to praise a new entry inside the top 41 - 100. It's not much of an achievement. Sure, some tracks may rise up the chart into the top 40 but 41 - 100 positions were never worthy of a mention on Radio 1, BBC tv, commercial radio. It's hard to get too excited by songs entering far down the top 100!

And in the top40 there are 3 new entries plus a re entry of a recently released song. Last summer we had weeks with only one or even zero songs entering the top 40.

The turnover of new entires I think has naturally speeded up this year, ACR has just heightened it further. Whilst it is nice to see more fluid movement its rather irritating its due to older songs being penalised, it kind of takes away the achievement of being no.1 unless your song is the top seller/streamed track (and even then its not a guarantee).

 

But I agree though compared to last year, even without ACR, the chart has improved in its pacing.

I know about the 50% increase automatic reset, but ISTM there should also be an automatic reset for a song reaching a new peak position.

Will be interesting to see what happens to 'Look What You Made Me Do' now that a fourth Taylor track is about to enter the chart. Will it just disappear or will the record company request that 'Gorgeous' becomes chart ineligible instead?

I believe the label are allowed to request for the exclusion of 'Gorgeous' in this case, but I'm not sure what do they have to gain by letting LWYMMD stay in the chart when it's already left the top 40.

I suppose it doesn't really matter when the sales are still going to count towards its total, but it would look better to see a #1 single still charting and a promo single get sacrificed.

It would simply look - and be - better if they allowed the published chart to reflect what the true positions actually are, however disproportionate or inconvenient it might be when a single artist registers more than three titles in the chart. This chart regime just continues to be so pointless.

Just had a question as I couldn't find the answer for looking. But is there still a daily cap of 10 streams per song and also the total streams that are counted are they based on streams that are accumulated from this cap being in place?

The daily cap is still in place and is imposed by Spotify etc. So the streaming figures you see on Spotify are in accordance with the cap (this is to stop labels spamming their songs all day and getting their songs high on the Spotify chart that way, remember that the Spotify chart is (probably) viewed more than the OCC chart)

Ah fab! thanks for the info :) I thought that was the case but just wanted to check.

 

Mainly as I keep seeing these Spotify posters about people who stream a song like 1,000 in a week but then I remembered there was a cap, so in essence they only have 70 counted on that week as a max.
