24. B.a.N.G. - Halcyon - Delphic

Mariah Carey and Goldfrapp were the only big names in the final. After more than two years, the contest was finally won by a song with a male lead vocal. Stockport band Delphic won comfortably by 35 points ahead of Tinashie & Kissy Sell Out representing Kingdom Of Shadow with Come On Over. Your Love's A Drug by Leighton Meester was 3rd (Liechenstaan).

I have both of Delphic's albums so I am familiar with Halcyon. It's far from the best track on their debut album. Counterpoint and Acolyte would have both got 10 out of 10 from me but it's still a fine song with its New Order like guitar sound. I'm going to put it just behind The Girl And The Robot as the 2nd best winner so far. Bre has stolen my thunder in pointing out that we are still counting down the order of the BBC Sound of 2010. The next winners should therefore be Hurts.

Haha, sorry :kink: I just remember that factoid being pointed out in the original contest! If only Hurts had continued the streak.

Delphic winning at the time was very out of the ordinary as it was the very first winner with male vocals. Winners with male vocals are still rare now, but not so rare that we wait 24 contests between each one.

I do love 'Halcyon' although I prefer 'Doubt'

(Another factoid that people may or may not know, the Tinashé who came 2nd in this contest is the same person as Rationale who would later be a winner).

I wasn't all that fussed about 'Hollywood' at the time (though I must have seen something in Marina because I did buy 'Oh No!' on CD single during release week!) - this wasn't great as it was hard to escape, it was the favourite song of one of my best friends at the time and the "Oh my god, you look just like Shakira..." etc line was quoted so much in secondary school :kink: Anyway, it FINALLY clicked with me a couple of years later after I started stanning 'Primadonna' and revisited some of her older songs! It's pretty quirky and I really appreciate her vocals now.

It's great to finally hear some male vocals as well now with Delphic! I can see why it won as the chorus in particular is solid. The instrumentation is also top notch! It's really up my street actually, one of the best winners so far <3 <3 B.a.N.G were on fire at this point. (Not only are two B.a.N.G winners in my top 3 but Ellie is next to a song called 'Halcyon' *.*)

25. Hendinia - Good Times - Roll Deep featuring Jodie Connor

An eclectic line-up included Nick Cave,Foals,Groove Armada,Sia and Diana Vickers. Roll Deep won by 22 points ahead of Lo-Fi-Fnk with Marchin' In for Skall. Robyn's Fembot was 3rd for Nonsuch.

I think this is the first winning song to feature rapping. It's good to see another different genre of music winning the final. Good Times is a party anthem which manages to rhyme late night shopping with high street bopping. It's not going to get a high mark from me as there are hundreds of other songs that sound the same as this.

6.6 out of 10.

'Good Times' is a huge guilty pleasure for me! I absolutely adored it at the time and my love for it has not waned at all. It is an immensely fun party song and that chorus is such an earworm! It never fails to put a smile on my face. *spams it for a lil while now*

That Roll Deep revival was very much welcomed, slay those two consecutive #1s *.*

Not a huge fan of Halcyon, I much prefer Doubt by them. Good Times however is an absolute banger, not one I always go back to or count as a massive fave all the time, but I'm always reminded how brilliant it is when I do hear it again, effortlessly puts me in a party mood and makes me want to go out there and then

26. FSR Rontvia - Psycho - Sheelah

For the first time since BJSC6,there were no semi-finals. 48 countries went straight through to the final. Leona Lewis,Alexandra Burke and N-Dubz were all present and previous winners Dolly Rockers were back. Sheelah finished 43 points ahead of Home by Kelis (B.a.N.G). River Flows Into You by Jasper Forks was 3rd for Ben's Sanctuary.

I like this one. It's a pop song with great vocals but the guitar sound will make it appeal to rock fans as well. Once again, this is gooddelta's own youtube upload but he still hasn't replied to David Israel's question from two years ago.

I didn't even realise there was a comment on the video! And having looked at it I don't remember the answer  Presumably I ripped it from an audio stream using Audacity and then used it to make a video.

I really adore Psycho <3 Kickstarted the glorious era of Scandipop doing incredibly well in BJSC too.

27. Kopecka - It's Gonna Rain - Eric Saade

49 countries took part in the final. That's the most in this run of 7 contests without semi-finals so I'm assuming this was the biggest final in BJSC history. Lady Gaga,Drake,Flo Rida and The Wanted all entered but Eric Saade became the first male solo singer to win the contest, finishing 39 points ahead of Eminem and Rihanna representing Quotosibb with Love The Way You Lie. Fallulah's Bridges was 3rd for Sangria.

It's Gonna Rain is a good solid pop song but a bit clichéd. Eric went on to finish 3rd in the 2011 Eurovision final.

7.7 out of 10.

BJSC 64 had a final with 52 songs (it had semi-finals but they were cancelled due to the host disappearing from the site halfway through the contest :drama:)
Lord...thank god Saade won (though I personally preferred Bridges in 3rd <3). I forgot Love The Way You Lie was entered...dark times

I'm sure the fact it was a rap song was used as an excuse for it 'not being that cheap'

I very nearly gave up with BJSC around this time due to songs like this popping up time and time again. 2009/10 is a goldmine for pop classics in BJSC but god they had to fight bloody hard against the uninspired tide to get the results they deserved.

I miss pop Saade so much, 'It's Gonna Rain' is such a scandipop gem, what a winner!

lmao Love The Way You Lie really? no wonder Silas hates the ban list so much if it didn't keep that out.

that Eric Saade song sounds very dated now but I suppose I would've given it a few points at the time.

Ignoring that they were on the Sound Of list, 'Halcyon' sounds like a very inspired winner for its time, perhaps forward thinking as BJSC would a few years later go into an "indie" phase (read: less pop hoes winning).

Really enjoyed 'Good Times' in 2010, doesn't seem very inspired for a BJSC winner but it's an undeniable bop.

As for 'Psycho', yeah not my type of music. Seems we're now in the Scandipop era of the contest so a lot of these winners I don't really love.

28. Ashton - Mitt Liv Ar Mitt - Molly Sanden

The closest contest yet with the top 2 countries tying on 229 points. Molly Sanden's song won the tie-breaker with more votes. Lotopialand had to settle for 2nd place with Love Killer by Darin. Sky Ferreira's One was just two points behind in third place for Kylienips.

I got bored of this song well before it finished. Very uninspiring.

Banned tbh. Goodbye.
