Posted July 8, 20178 yr The Killers' Official Top 10 biggest singles revealed 07 July 2017 | By Jack White They've got plenty of classics under their belt, but which comes out on top? The Killers are one of the biggest bands on the planet, no doubt about it - but which of their hits come out on top? With four studio albums, a b-sides compilation, and a greatest hits filled to the brim with corkers, this one won’t be as cut and dry as you might expect. If your favourite isn’t Number 1, don’t worry, there’s no need to (Hot) Fuss… lets breakdown the Top 5 before revealing the Top 10 in full. All These Things That I’ve Done A sing-along anthem at any festival and club and a popular karaoke choice, All These Things That I’ve Done is The Killers' most successful song not to peak in the UK Top 10, settling for Number 18, and has achieved 227,000 downloads and 9.1 million streams to date. When You Were Young You would think The Killers’ highest-charting single would rank higher, but you would also think that The Killers would have had a UK Number 1 single. Double the shocks here. When You Were Young peaked at Number 2 for two weeks in 2006, sitting behind Scissor Sisters’ I Don’t Feel Like Dancing. Brandon & Co. can take some solitude in that When You Were Young is their biggest seller on CD single, and has overall recorded sales in the UK of 383,000. Streams aren’t too shabby either – a healthy 14.2 million. Somebody Told Me The Killers’ debut single, Somebody Told Me supercharged its way to Number 3 in 2004, and has retained a huge following on streaming services in recent years. While its sales are behind those of WYWY (339,000), Somebody Told Me has an extra five million plays to its name (19.2 million overall), ranking it third overall. Human Are we human? Or are we dancer? While we still don’t understand that lyric (answers on a postcard please), it's not difficult to understand why Human is so damn popular. Another song to peak at Number 3, Human was kept from Number 1 by Beyonce’s If I Were A Boy, and a cover of Mariah Carey's Hero by the 2008 X Factor finalists. That’s the iconic Alexandra, JLS and Ruth Lorenzo year. Human only ranks fourth when it comes to streaming, but has amounted a huge 804,000 sales, a figure that helps pull it to the runner-up position. Mr Brightside It started out with a kiss, how did it end up like this? Believe it or not, The Killers' signature song actually started out at Number 10 on the Official Singles Chart. Ageing even better than Brandon Flowers himself (no easy feat), Mr Brightside has evolved into a phenomenon of the digital age. Mr Brightside has an edge on Human when it comes to sales with 956,000; by far the best-selling Killers song. Then we come to its streaming figures. Mr Brightside has been streamed 66 million times, an amount that has enabled the song to spend more weeks in the Official Singles Chart Top 100 than any other song. Coming out of their cage, The Killers are doing just fine. The Killers' Official Top 10 biggest songs in the UK TITLE PEAK 1 MR BRIGHTSIDE 10 1,616,000 (956,000) 2 HUMAN 3 (804,000) 3 SOMEBODY TOLD ME 3 531,000 (339,000) 4 WHEN YOU WERE YOUNG 2 525,000 (383,000) 5 ALL THESE THINGS THAT I'VE DONE 18 318,000 (227,000) 6 READ MY MIND 15 7 SMILE LIKE YOU MEAN IT 11 8 SPACEMAN 40 9 RUNAWAYS 18 10 BONES 15 ©2017 Official Charts Company. July 8, 20178 yr Cheers liamk97. They've released some great records but none other can still beat Mr Brightside. Quite rightfully it's a classic.
July 8, 20178 yr Mr Brightside looks likely to sell a million actual sales sometime this or next year then, good news.
July 8, 20178 yr Can I be the pedant who points out that Somebody Told Me peaked at 3 in January 2005? Thanks.
July 8, 20178 yr Switch around #2 & #5 and you've got my personal Top 10 as well (up until The Man anyway) Sometimes I forget that the highest they've ever peaked was #2... When We Were Young deserved to be at the top and of all the acts it was the fking Scissor Sisters that denied them it
July 8, 20178 yr It's a shame they never had a number 1 as they have so many great singles. Mr bright side is in the charts here in Ireland too for months now but has yet to achieve a decent position,it's peak is number 48.
July 8, 20178 yr Maybe it's because I'm a veteran of the Britpop era but I never particularly expected the Killers to have a Number One single. After all, Shed Seven never had one. And that Scissor Sisters song was massive.
July 8, 20178 yr Their chart placings are so low for a lot of their songs mind. I could've swore Bones and Read My Mind were top 10s. Also, Spaceman? I've never heard that one I think. It's done well to make top 10 as a #40 peaker.
July 8, 20178 yr Kind of crazy to think that 'Mr. Brightside' has only spent 6 weeks within the UK Top 40 (and only 3 weeks in its release year of 2004). It was recently revealed by Music Week that it's sold just 22,512 copies physically (18,651 CDs, 3,861 7" Vinyl), presumably the majority of which was sold in 2004. The chart was still 100% based on physical sales that year of course, and this wasn't enough for it to place within the Top 200 best-sellers of 2004. According to Gezza, Mr. Brightside sold 12,700 to achieve its peak position of #10 - a mere 0.786% of its current overall total. Surely the lowest sales percentage ever for a single's time spent at its peak position? I think its current total is enough for it to now place within the Top 50 of all-time? How far it's come! :o The Killers' Mr Brightside never advanced beyond the No.10 position in which it debuted a little over 13 years ago, but it is streamed more frequently than any other track issued prior to the current decade and regularly clocks up more than 500 paid-for sales a week. With The Killers performing the track during their set at Glastonbury, it received a further boost this week, and duly re-enters the Top 75, climbing 83-69 (7,637 sales). Although it has, by modern standards, a fairly modest total of 35 appearances in the Top 75 - behind even the 38 weeks of another Killers' track, 2008's Human - Mr Brightside has appeared in the Top 200 517 times in the 684 weeks that have elapsed since its release, more times than any other track, with a 100% attendance record in the last 79 weeks. It has also managed to accumulate a massive 1,616,243 sales, of which CDs account for 18,651, 7-inch vinyl for 3,861, paid-for downloads for 933,813, and streams for the rest. http://www.buzzjack.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=202261
July 13, 20178 yr Their chart placings are so low for a lot of their songs mind. I could've swore Bones and Read My Mind were top 10s. Also, Spaceman? I've never heard that one I think. It's done well to make top 10 as a #40 peaker. Spaceman is one of my personal favs after Boots!
July 13, 20178 yr I was a little surprised to see 'Runaways' making this top 10, but then looked it up and they've had far fewer hit singles than I thought so that makes sense I guess. 'All These Things That I've Done', 'Smile Like You Mean It', 'Read My Mind' and 'Bones' have held up great over the years for songs that missed the top 10.
July 13, 20178 yr Wow. I had no idea Mr Brightside had sold in that sufficient quantities. And all for a #10 single! Pleased to see Read My Mind up high in their list of top sellers. One of my favourite singles of theirs - the remix Pet Shop Boys did of it was immense!
July 13, 20178 yr Mr Brightside is good. It's nowhere near as good as Somebody Told Me. Agreed. And I'd also put WYWY and Runaways above Mr Brightside. Edited July 13, 20178 yr by M4NG0
July 13, 20178 yr Spaceman was the follow up to Human! Shame it only got to 40 but it's still a firm favourite if mine.
July 14, 20178 yr Agreed. And I'd also put WYWY and Runaways above Mr Brightside. I really disliked WYWY when it was out. It felt like a mashup of Coldplay and U2. Almost like Speed of Sound. The Killers are very good at copying other bands formula.
