September 3, 20177 yr Keep up good work gezza great read so far Top 5 left so I'm guessing 2 1D members Cheryl still to come (Also slightly satisfying when Adam is wrong ) I'd also guess Geri Halliwell. Which leaves one more.
September 4, 20177 yr I'd also guess Geri Halliwell. Which leaves one more. Have we had the lead singers of the two biggest boy bands of the 90s yet?
September 4, 20177 yr Have we had the lead singers of the two biggest boy bands of the 90s yet? Ronan Keating Geri Halliwell Zayn Harry Styles Cheryl Cole Are we missing anyone?
September 4, 20177 yr Don't mean to disrupt the interaction in this thread, but could we remember to use spoiler tags where appropriate? Some people may not want to know in advance who is yet to come.

September 4, 20177 yr Author 05. LOOK AT ME- GERI HALLIWELL (322,000) PEAK POSITION: 2 WKS ON CHART: 14 YEAR: 1999 Missing out on No 1 by a mere 750 copies in May 1999, Geri’s first single was released with much promotion and press interest. Indeed short of Robbie’s resignation from Take That in 1995 there wasn’t a more high profile departure from a group in the whole of the 90s than Geri’s, the song’s defeat at the hands of Boyzone was blamed on the fact that the Boyzone single was released on 2 CD’s with different tracks on whilst Geri’s CD’s contained identical tracks though one came with postcards. Silly girl! 31mlEEs9_Vk
September 4, 20177 yr Author 04. FOREVER LOVE- GARY BARLOW (329,000) PEAK POSITION: 1 WKS ON CHART: 16 YEAR: 1996 Poor old Gary, he was the bright hope when Take That split, the one that could write a good pop tune and would have a long solo career, it didn’t turn out that way (until TT reformed in 2006 anyway). The main reason was that he was so patently obsessed with being “credible” that he ended up writing rather boring songs that saw him dropped by the end of album 2, it started out brightly with this instant No 1 though iA8huEmBjK0
September 5, 20177 yr Geri known for being a marketing genius really missed the mark here. Only because Boyzone released two CDs of a dullard Anne Murray cover that zipped out the charts faster than Look at Me. Still. It proves if nothing else why the cliche of 'all fans of boybands are stupid' sometimes rings true.
September 5, 20177 yr Exactly , I would have thought she would have insisted on 2cds being released. The spice girls usually did.
September 5, 20177 yr Only # 5. I thought about 2nd place for my all-time favourite singer in this list. :(
September 5, 20177 yr Look At Me was such an underrated bit of jazzy pop for what it was at the time. Was gutted when she was beat to No.1, she was by far my favourite from the group. I've always thought that Geri did muck up her solo career at the time by continuing with a fairly cheesy pop sound, she would have suited her jazzy pop sound that she had for Look At Me and Goodnight Kiss a lot better. Look At Me and Mi Chico Latino were both quite strong first singles, but the follow ups are quite cringey and haven't aged very well (apart from Its Raining Men). But still having four consecutive no.1s is a feat no female solo artist has thus far matched, though I think going with Pete Waterman was what killed her career off in the long run. Mel C's team pulled an amazing rollout of her debut album and after Geri she was my second favourite from the group. I liked all of the singles from Northern Star which they seemed to save the best till later in the era and was a very solid album. Never Be The Same Again, to me is the song that summaries the demise of the group and it all falling apart and perfectly captures what was going on with them all at the time. One of the best songs from all of the solo releases. Her follow up albums though I wasn't a fan of but both Northern Star and Geri's first two albums are the only Spice Girl solo albums I actually got. Victoria was and always has been a target from the press. Out Of Your Mind was an absolute corker of a song and I loved NSAIG when that was released as well. Had both that and the album been released in 2000 after OOYM she may have faired a lot better than she did. Also really liked her brief comeback in 2003, Let Your Head Go was a great bit a of dance pop. Emma's early solo material I thought was really bland and boring, but her second album was much better and did stand out from other pop music at the time. Mel B's solo stuff was terrible, didn't like any of her solo material at all.
September 5, 20177 yr Author 03. WHEN YOU SAY NOTHING AT ALL- RONAN KEATING (674,000) PEAK POSITION: 1 WKS ON CHART: 17 YEAR: 1999 Ronan here starting off as he meant to go on with a cover of a country ballad, this time around Keith Whitley’s 1988 country chart topper. Used in the film “Notting Hill” it got off to a flying start with nearly 200,000 sold in its first week and sped up the demise of Boyzone doubtless. 7xrxrEEGVdM
September 5, 20177 yr Author 02. PILLOWTALK- ZAYN (871,000) PEAK POSITION: ;1 WKS ON CHART: 24 YEAR: 2016 Is it written about Malik’s relationship with Little Mixer Perrie Edwards? He’s hinted as much which can’t have gone down well with current partner Gigi Hadid who also appears in the promo for the song, but at any rate Zayn’s first single on leaving One Direction was immediate success on both sides of the Atlantic debuted at No 1 in both charts. It got his solo career off to the perfect start even if subsequent releases haven’t quite set the charts alight. C_3d6GntKbk
September 5, 20177 yr Author 01. FIGHT FOR THIS LOVE- CHERYL COLE (1,031,000) PEAK POSITION: 1 WKS ON CHART: 30 YEAR: 2009 Co-written by the man (Steve Kipner) who brought us the chart toppers “Genie In A Bottle” and “These Words” as well as Ben Adams’ “Sorry” No 41 on this list, Cole is the ultimate example of how to launch a solo career- in sales terms at least. She outsold anything that Girls Aloud ever released and became however briefly the nation’s sweetheart at the same time, of course a prime time slot every Saturday night on X Factor as a judge and premiering her song live on the programme all got it off to an eye watering start with 292k sold in 7 days. 4umc87T5UMs
