Welcome To New Pork is an absolute highlight on 1989 for me and in her overall top 10 I think (although I know practically nothing before Red except for a most of the singles!) *.* I remember when it came out as an instant grant it kinda got me crazy hyped for the album instead of just mildly 'looking forward to it' if you know what I mean

WTNY is an absolute banger *.*

Starlight is really overrated imo, i don't dislike it but it's no a fave of mine from Red alone let alone Taylor's whole discography.

30. Should've Said No

Kicking off the top 30, we have the last song from her debut era, the single 'Should've Said No'

Taylor describes the song as
This comes from an unfortunate chapter in Swift's life. She explained: "I wrote this song by myself, and it literally took me just 20 minutes to write before we recorded it. I was living every line in this song at the time. I wrote this song about a guy who cheated on me who shouldn't have."

This is the definite highlight from the first album for me and is one of her best earliest songs <3 This is a breakup anthem, the production is incredible and the instrumental bit after the second chorus is fab, and I love how the final chorus goes fully in with powerful vocals and her vocals on the lyric above <3 <3 The lyrics are fab and this is def an early Taylor highlight.

WTNY is one of my favourites from 1989 and I agree with you in your commentary that it works so well as an album opener. It clicked with me ever since it was a promo single. I hope we get a promo single that good from the Reputation era

I'm still shocked that Wonderland wasn't on the main version of 1989 to be honest. That and New Romantics were two of the strongest tracks on the whole thing but didn't make the standard edition? :o At least the latter got the single treatment even if it did nothing charts wise :(

Loving this so far

'So this is me swallowing my pride, Standing in front of you saying I'm sorry for that night.'

29. Back To December

Into 29th we have the single and US top 10 hit from Speak Now, 'Back To December'.

Taylor describes the song as
"It addresses a first for me in that I've never apologized in song. The person I wrote this song about deserves this. This is about a person who was incredible to me, just perfect to me in a relationship, and I was really careless with him."

To all the Taylor haters who say all she does is victim blame on every song, well here's your proof she doesn't xx
Another song, another ballad in the form of the stunning Back To December, which is about Twilight actor Taylor Launtner. The lyrics are some of Taylor's best as she apologises for messing up her relationship and her regret. The lyrics really stand out on this and my faves are the ones I've posted above! Taylor's vocals are fab, especially in the chorus and the production slays <3 A fab Taylor ballad and this is hitting me harder than it has ever done so before and this was actually around 35th when I compiled this list a couple of weeks ago :o
Oh 'Back To December' is lovely with its chilled vibes, one of my biggest highlights from her pre-'Red'. <3 I never knew it was about Taylor Lautner though, this is proving educational. Am I correct in thinking it was the second single from the campaign following 'Mine'? If so then that's another example of me preferring the second Taylor single to the lead, to follow on from my post in the 'Look What You Made Me Do' thread yesterday.
Back To December is easily my favourite Taylor Swift single/Song its so beautifully written and produced and I love the message

28. The Story Of Us

Into 28th and we have another Speak Now single in the form of 'The Story Of Us'.

Taylor describes the song as
"It was at an awards show and there had been this falling-out between me and this guy," she explained. "I think both of us had so much that we wanted to say, but we're sitting six seats away from each other, just fighting this silent war of 'I don't care that you're here.'" Taylor continued, "I remember getting home and sitting at the iamspamspamamitable, and saying to my mom, 'It was like I was standing alone in a crowded room.' That's when my eyes glazed over, and I got distracted and walked away to write." She added, "My mom is used to me doing that."

This was probably top 10 pre-1989 but a combination of not going back to this that much/1989 existing/other tracks growing on me, this has gone from an ultimate fave to an 11/10 still incredible but not ultimate Taylor fave!! This is another catchy country but more poppy upbeat tune which tells a story (shocker ikr) and I love how the story progresses. The middle 8 is fab and I love how it does that chorus thing at the end when it gets much louder and the production is fab as ever <3
I also adore the 'next chapter' 'the end' parts <3 <3
Oh 'The Story Of Us' is fabulous also!! The singles from 'Speak Now' were hit and miss for me but that was definitely in the hit category along with 'Back To December', so it's funny they should both appear now one after the other. I even charted it in my personal chart at the time *.*

'You got that James Dean daydream look in your eye.'

27. Style

Into 27th and we lose the first single from '1989' in the shape of 'Style'.

Taylor describes the song as
This song about a relationship with a guy who has "slicked-back hair" appears to be Taylor looking back at her time with Harry Styles. The clue is not only in the title but also Harry used to rock a slicked-back hair style.

Just outside the top half of this countdown we lose the first 1989 single which is still utterly incredible. This was the only 1989 single to not peak at #1 on my personal chart (it spent multiple weeks at #2 stuck behind Love Me Like You Do) but it sold nearly 2 million copies in my chart!! This is fab but I do find it a lil bit overrated amongst Taylor stans as she does have a lot thats better for me! The chorus is easily the highlight of the song for me and the production slays <3 and a James Dean related lyric is never a bad thing *.* (see Blue Jeans, Moonlight + more)
(and the video also isn't a massive favourite of mine :( )

26. The Moment I Knew

Just missing the top 25 we take a break from singles and have the 4th deluxe album track to appear in the form of Red's 'The Moment I Knew'.

Taylor describes the song as
Taylor explained in an interview with Yahoo! Music "The Moment I Knew" "was a song about my 21st birthday party, which was the worst experience ever." (and is rumoured to be about Jake Gyllenhaal iirc)

Another song that should've EASILY been on the main edition, especially over the likes of I Almost Do & Sad Tragic. This is the fourth deluxe track to appear (with just one more to go I think and Superman just missed out!) and this is a typical Taylor utterly stunning ballad <3 I love the lyrics so much and Taylor's emotion in her voice is so good against the instrumental <3 The chorus is utterly fab and the bit before the final chorus is so incredible as well.
'Style' is fantastic, the chorus and accompanying dark-pop kinda production clicked with me straight away. #21 was a decent result for it without any streaming! The only disappointment about this was the video, I agree with you on that. The second worst of the '1989' era I think (behind 'New Romantics' as that was just a tour video)

Also let's have a midway interlude with a song that would easily make the top 50 <3

(I think i'd also put in Breathe & Superman now if I was to redo this, ugh I'm so inconsistent with my Taylor faves!!!!!)
