Posted October 6, 20177 yr With news of Sam Smiths album finally getting a release date of November 3rd do people think this will affect Taylor’s chances of claiming another UK number one album with Reputation. At present the release of Reputation is set for November 10th but considering Sams obvious high sales could he hold up strong enough to deny Taylor a number 1 debut. Personally I have a feeling it could be like Coldplay / Adele but on a smaller scale and she will just miss out. In terms of the US it will be a very different story however but was interested in people’s thoughts.
October 7, 20177 yr I think many are over estimating Sam smith. Yes he did fantastic with his previous album, however I don't feel like he will do as well with this album in terms of sales in the short term, I think Taylor will knock him off no.1 here in the uk for the first week of her release but long term Sam will get larger sales/streams. Taylor swift has a large enough fanbase to knock him off number one.
October 7, 20177 yr Sam Smith WILL Be mega this era but I think given Taylor's recent album record she should still nab a week at the top. Think both albums will have superb sales that week.
October 7, 20177 yr I am amazed that anyone would think that a new TS album would fail to make T10.
October 7, 20177 yr I'm thinking Sam will do a lot more than people think. 150-200k first week with second week of 80-100k. Possibly enough to see off Taylor.
October 7, 20177 yr I am amazed that anyone would think that a new TS album would fail to make T10. Sometimes I do wonder if they trying to be funny or genuinely believe this too
October 7, 20177 yr Author I'm thinking Sam will do a lot more than people think. 150-200k first week with second week of 80-100k. Possibly enough to see off Taylor. This is genuinely what I’m thinking! I definitely think it’s going to be close though.
October 7, 20177 yr I'd be gobsmacked if Sam's 2nd week managed to outsell Taylor's first! 1989 sold close to 100k in week 1, and this is being released even closer to Christmas, so I can see at least the same if not more for reputation. Sam will sell strongly in week 2 but not THAT strongly imo.
October 7, 20177 yr I can't fathom the possibility Taylor won't be #1 (or Top 1, as it were). Edited October 7, 20177 yr by Tawdry Hepburn
October 7, 20177 yr Sam's album isn't going to do nearly as well as his previous. I think you're right but I'm still expecting YUGE first week sales for it Likewise for Taylor actually. I can't see this album outdoing 1989 in the long run.
October 7, 20177 yr I would be surprised if she did 30k tbh, so surprised at people saying she will do 100k+
October 7, 20177 yr I would be surprised if she did 30k tbh, so surprised at people saying she will do 100k+ Reasoning?
October 7, 20177 yr I wouldn't be that shocked if Sam's second week beats Taylor's first actually. 'Too Good At Goodbyes' has (somehow) been much more of an enduring hit than either of Taylor's tracks so far and it's more of the style that sells albums as well. I don't think Sam's album will be quite as big as his debut was in the long run but I expect it will be a bit of a mega seller at least until the end of the year. That said, Taylor should be able to get pretty good first week numbers so I will say she'll get #1, but maybe dropping back behind Sam quite quickly afterwards.
October 7, 20177 yr I think it could be close, but I do think she'll manage a week at number 1, especially if she gets another hit single out before the album
October 7, 20177 yr Reasoning? I don’t think her the two songs she’s released have gone down *that* well with the public. I know LWYMMD went to #1, but it fell pretty fast and RFI hasn’t exactly set that charts on fire condsidering it’s always on the radio. Also I was assuming she wasn’t a massive album seller, but I’ll be honest and say I couldn’t tell you what she’s sold previously. Edit. Just looked at Red’s chart run and it spent 43 weeks in the Top 10  So yeah, expecting more than 30k then. Edited October 7, 20177 yr by Nick Jonas
