They have 3 albums and they are music legends

By "boost their discography" I'm sure Sammy meant more streams & sales for the songs they performed. No doubt it would send the Greatest Hits back into the chart (+ maybe even studio albums).

When you think about it, they haven't performed on UK television since 2012 (the Olympics - Wannabe/Spice Up Your Life). A Glastonbury set airing on TV would be the first time in an extremely long time that the majority of their catalogue is exposed to millions of viewers. In theory, Glastonbury would be more effective for the charts than touring is!

It was pretty obvious what I meant, some people on here just like to be deliberately antagonistic.

I am right though. They needed to release more albums.

That’s very true what you say Jay about the viewers v touring

When there’s an artist on TV at a festival or a live TV performance it usually makes more impact than say a tour itself, unless you want to reminisce and look back.

I’d totally be here for a Glastonbury performance and Simon, the girls and the label shouldn’t worry about there being some kind of televised performance to keep we still want a tour.

I think you will get more tracks this year, not new but unreleased.

As for boosting their discography it was obvious I meant sales or I would have said adding to their discography.

Boosting sales in 2021?????????

It's not the 90's anymore. Sales haven't been a thing for quite a few years now. It's all about streaming numbers now. Those are the new sales.

I meant streaming sales again that was pretty obvious and again with you being deliberately antagonistic

Yeah if sales are mentioned it should be taken to mean that that includes streaming units (because it’s been this way for like 7 years). Glastonbury slot = boosted streaming = increases their sales [including streaming converted into units] = more success in the chart.

There's a huge difference between sales and streaming when talking about a legacy act. You didn't say which one you were referring to. Other members didn't know what you were referring to either. So no, I was not being deliberately antagonistic.

I mean I'm beyond arguing with sideout over semantics. Everyone knows sales means physical/digital/streaming sales these days, well everyone who should be posting on a chart forum any way.

Maybe you should practice what you preach and not be deliberately antagonistic.

Let's move on, shall we.

As Posh would say, "Exactly!"

It's all about streaming numbers. In order to boost your streaming you have to release new music. Look at what Melanie C's last album did for her streaming numbers. Hence, this is probably why Universal was able to convince the girls to release demos from the archives. Otherwise, they would just release a new album instead. It doesn't seem like we will ever get that 4th studio album, which is a real shame.

Your mention of a 4th album got me thinking: does anyone remember how many albums the spice girls owed Virgin in their contract from the 90s?

I might be not remembering this correctly but I remember on an interview in Canada, it may have been on much music, they said 4 albums. Then when the GH was released in 2007 I seem to recall a separate interview or article that said the GH counted as album #4.

Does anyone remember the T on this?

I recall it being a 5 album deal! If only that had happened...!
5 albums with Geri, and a 6th Forever (but better)!! Their musical would have succeeded with such an extensive run of singles!

5 albums of Melanie C, Mel B and Emma carrying the band. Poor girls. 😂

I think the Spice Girls are iconic because they stopped when they were successful.

See how redundant became BSB, Westshit and all the others. The Girls were already icons with just one album.

I’m sure they have lots of unreleased stuff. That’s what we want now! NOW! 😜

It was 5 albums, pretty sure it's either expired or one of the parties has bought themselves out of it though as they aren't under contract still.

To be honest it might have been made void when EMI bought the rights from Virgin? Who knows....

Contracts mean nothing. They don't have to be fulfilled. Look at Girls Aloud. They had signed a new deal to release more studio albums just before they took a break, but have never fulfilled it.

Girls Aloud were supposed to end in 2006 with their first Greatest Hits.

It was its unexpected success that gave them another two studio albums.

I think Girls Aloud concentrating on the UK market only helped their longevity aswell as they got long breaks from each other between album eras. The Spice Girls never had that luxury as they were global and needed to do the promo that being a global band entailed.
