184 Era Istrefi feat. Felix Snow - Redrum | 16-21-28-30-38-X (5 weeks)

185 New Hope Club - Fixed | 19-21-29-38-X (4 weeks)

187 The Chainsmokers - Paris | 9-13-28-X (3 weeks)

188 Camila Cabello feat. Quavo - OMG | 15-19-28-29-37-X (5 weeks)

189 Lisa Ajax - I Don't Give A | 20-17-22-34-X (4 weeks)

190 James TW - Ex | 14-13-20-23-29-37-X (6 weeks)

A few more top 10 hits start to filter through now! First up, we have a trio of UK top 40 dance hits. The Chainsmokers were omnipresent at the start of the year, and Paris was their first new hit of 2017. I really liked it at first, even if 'parents' sounds like 'parrots', although it grew old quickly. It's their only entry this year, as Something Just Like This hasn't made my top 250 (and nor has anything from their album). Martin Solveig scored his first top 10 in my chart with Places, a fab little track which showed remarkable longevity in the UK chart. Also, Jax Jones finally scored his breakthrough smash (as a lead artist), with You Don't Know Me being a massive hit at the start of the year. It made a solid impression on my chart, although once again, it got old quite quickly thanks to overplay.

The other top 10 hit in this section comes from a track which obviously went nowhere near the top 40. Kate Nash scored only one chart hit this year, after a double in 2016, with Call Me. It became another top 10 for her, but didn't offer much in the way of longevity, like 2016 top 10 hit Good Summer. There's a few other tracks that didn't dent the official chart here too. Lisa Ajax's I Don't Give A was a Melodifestivalen hit, and James TW's Ex wasn't anywhere near as big as When You Love Someone (which wasn't all *that* big anyway), but I think I actually prefer it.

Camila Cabello made the right choice when picking out of her double releases Havana and OMG, as the latter is all the way down at #188 here and it's no spoiler to say that Havana is quite a way away yet. It's Camila's first appearance of four anyway, and all four are above both Fifth Harmony songs this year.

The Vamps' new boyband New Hope Club make their second and final appearance with Fixed, while Era Istrefi makes her only appearance with Redrum. I wasn't all that bothered with Bonbon, and her latest track with French Montana is underwhelming, but Redrum is slick and easily her best so far. It's of course helped by Felix Snow's production, and marks his first appearance as a credited artist. Finally, Marshmello makes his first appearance, as does Khalid, with their collaboration Silence, a track that grew on me significantly after initially finding it rather average on first listen.

GREAT GOOD FINE OK APPEARANCE *.* Find Yourself is a tune

Yassss *.* its chart run doesn't really do it justice unfortunately :(

Places and You Don't Know Me are amongst my absolute faves of the year

Also like Paris and OMG. Redrum was quite alright but pales in comparison to Bonbon for me.

Silence was one of those rare dance hits that I never got into as well.

171 Lucie Silvas - Just For the Record | 7-19-28-37-X (4 weeks)

172 Cheat Codes feat. Fetty Wap & CVBZ - Feels Great | 7-11-15-25-35-X (5 weeks)

173 Nightly - XO | 19-9-15-27-38-X (5 weeks)

174 Ansel Elgort - Thief | 22-10-14-26-38-X (5 weeks)

175 DJ Khaled feat. Justin Bieber, Quavo, Chance the Rapper & Lil Wayne - I'm the One | 11-16-29-38-X (4 weeks)

176 Joel Adams - Die For You | 21-2-4-11-22-31-X (6 weeks)

177 Luis Fonsi & Daddy Yankee feat. Justin Bieber - Despacito | 30-13-20-30-39-X (5 weeks)

178 Taylor Swift - ...Ready For It? | 17-15-18-27-X-33-37-… (6+ non-consecutive weeks)

179 Isac Elliot - SHE | 9-19-28-39-X (4 weeks)

180 Dylan Hyde - Clearly | 10-8-12-18-28-X (5 weeks)

Having previously been a one-hit wonder with #2 hit Sick of Your Love in 2015, Dylan Hyde unexpectedly scored a second hit with Clearly earlier this year. The track spent two weeks in my top 10, and is a fun little track, although I still prefer Sick of Your Love. Isac Elliot also scored another top 10 hit this year, but he's a more regular face there, having achieved a top 10 hit every year since his debut with New Way Home in 2013, although no #1 yet! SHE isn't one of his very best, but it's a decent track nonetheless.

Proof that name power alone can't get you a huge hit in my chart, Taylor Swift's ..Ready For It? never made it higher than #15. Whilst I enjoy it a lot, it's definitely not a Taylor classic for me and it lacks some of the oomph that her tracks usually have. Justin Bieber scored two more #1s in the UK and US, but neither song made my top 10. Despacito, a remix of Luis Fonsi & Daddy Yankee's original, proved to be a slow burner and ultimately peaked at #13, but unfortunately it grew old fairly quickly. DJ Khaled collaboration I'm the One fared slightly better, peaking at #11, but still below Justin's usual standards. However, he still has two more songs to come...

His debut release Please Don't Go made #3 in my countdown last year, but Joel Adams' follow-up Die For You fails to come anywhere near, and is in fact the lowest top 5 hit in this year's countdown. Die For You isn't a bad song by any means, but it felt like a weaker recreation of Please Don't Go. On the bright side, it only seemed to be a teaser track, while we're still waiting for the actual follow-up single 2 years on from Please Don't Go. :drama: I sent Joel to BJSC last year, but if we fast forward a year, I discovered another artist in this section via BJSC. Haus sent Nightly to the contest, with their song XO. It was an instant hit for me, channelling Years & Years which isn't ever a bad thing. It peaked at #9 in my chart and ends up at #173 here, just one spot ahead of actor and singer Ansel Elgort's Thief, his only chart hit to date.

The top two songs in this section come from regulars in my chart. Cheat Codes have scored three #1 singles over the past year and a bit, and a further two top 10 hits. They have four songs in this year's countdown, and here's the first. Feels Great is the follow-up to global smash No Promises, and although it isn't anywhere near as good, it's a nice follow-up and the production is great. Heck, Fetty Wap even sounds alright, although after the video I'm left confused as to which parts are him and which are CVBZ :') Finally, one of my all-time favourite singers, Lucie Silvas released two singles at the same time this year. Just for the Record made the smallest impact of the two, although they both fared similarly and we'll be seeing My Old Habits soon. I knew this song already from her live tour, but it was great to get a studio version!

Recommendation

My favourite from here is probably ...Ready For It? which I love one of the best taylor singles its in my top 10 of hers

Elsewhere Nightly XO, Ansel Elgort Theif, DJ Khalid Im The One all good too! Think I heard Joel Adams too

:hi: Joseph

Didn't realise that you never loved either of Despacito or I'm the One. The former was definitely my favourite for a moment but it burned out so quickly with all the overplay and now I massively prefer the latter. I'm glad he added to his already impressive hits tally though because both are bangers, I'd love to hear him on some more urban hooks like ITO

Yay for RFI appearing too, I'm glad she did officially release it as a single in the end anyway even if it didn't do much either side of the pond post-video. Hoping Gorgeous can be a hit here in the UK at least <3

because I've missed so much I'll comment when there's a recap I'll drop in some love for Taylor's RFI though... I wonder if she'll have only one song in the top 100? :o

"I'm the One": Never would I except this to work, but it did!

"Despacito": I prefer the original, but this isn't that bad.

"...Ready For It?": I hated it first, than I liked it, now for me it's in the middle.

"Places": Great dance song

"Silence": I really like this song, this also hit me emotionally with Khalid's verses.

"Redrum": Decent song

"You Don't Know Me": I loved it since 2016 and I still love it!

"Paris": A great pop song from The Chainsmokers.

"OMG": It isn't as good as "Havana", not at all.

"Ex": I really like it, heard it early this year, a great song.

161 David Guetta feat. Justin Bieber - 2U | 10-17-28-39-X (4 weeks)

162 J Balvin & Willy William - Mi Gente | 13-16-12-17-25-30-X (6 weeks)

164 Toby Randall feat. DJ Khaled - Landslide | 16-10-17-27-39-X (5 weeks)

165 Zara Larsson feat. Ty Dolla $ign - So Good | 3-6-12-25-36-X (5 weeks)

166 Iggy Azalea - Mo Bounce | 7-12-24-35-X (4 weeks)

167 Luis Fonsi & Demi Lovato - Échame La Culpa | 7-… (1+ weeks)

168 Lucie Silvas - My Old Habits | 6-12-23-32-X (4 weeks)

169 Julia Michaels - Issues | 25-39-X-35-27-17-15-20-28-34-X (9 non-consecutive weeks)

170 Reed Deming - Cry Wolf | 7-15-27-35-X (4 weeks)

Another couple of old BJSC artists of mine first. We kick off with Reed Deming, who scored a top 10 hit with Cry Wolf earlier this year, the first of four eligible releases for this year, although this is the only one to make my top 250. I also sent Lucie Silvas, back in my fourth contest. She appears here with the aforementioned second of two new releases. My Old Habits is only marginally ahead of Just For the Record, but nevertheless makes it to a decent #168.

The third highest non-top 10 hit now, Julia Michaels scored a slow-burning hit with Issues. It's her first appearance of three, with follow-up Uh Huh and Clean Bandit collaboration I Miss You still to come. Luis Fonsi's follow-up hit manages to finish higher than his global smash, with Demi Lovato collaboration Échame La Culpa at #167, helped a lot by its infectious vibe and the irresistible "hey Fonsi" intro. It's Demi's first appearance of four.

Despite a few attempts, Iggy Azalea's struggled so far with any attempts to kick off her second era in style. Team fared pretty terribly last year, and Mo Bounce seemed to be panned across the board. It's a guilty pleasure for me though, and it made #7 in my chart. Iggy still has a song to come, too, so she's not doing too badly for me. Another flop this year came from Mollie King, who to be honest, I never expected to get a second single. Whilst I prefer Back to You, Hair Down is a huge Xenomania anthem, with enough "na na na"s to last you a lifetime. Joining our flop hat trick, Zara Larsson's album title track failed to make any impact at all, ending her impressive hit streak. I rather liked So Good, but it's a definite step down from her previous singles.

Whilst the public went crazy for I'm the One and Wild Thoughts, my favourite DJ Khaled song of the year is one he only features on. He kickstarted 15 year old aspiring popstar Toby Randall's career with a glowing introduction on debut single Landslide - "young Toby, young greatness" *.* Don't let his age fool you, Landslide is a catchy and mature pop track, and I think Toby could be one to watch in the future.

FREEZE. Finally, closing out the section, another non-top 10 from J Balvin and Willy William appears at #162. Mi Gente proved to be a grower, with the initially annoying introduction proving itself to become infectious. Beyoncé's inclusion sadly made the song lose some of its spark, so we'll forget that exists. Lastly, David Guetta's collaboration with Justin Bieber proved to be a fun little track, and I really liked the video game-like breakdown. Justin sounds good too, although unfortunately it doesn't have quite the same replayability factor as many Justin songs.

Recommendation

Mo Boune and Hair Down get way too much hate, I know the former is musically devoid of anything that signified talent or credibility but it's such a banger, the production goes off

Hey Fonsi x

Would Say I only like 2U, Mi Gents, Hair Down, So Good, Échame La Culpa and Issues. The later I am kicking myself for not getting into as much at the time :(

Mi Gente  Really glad it went Top 40 without a big feature! Definitely the best of the Latin quartet as well ;)

Edited by Petelehem

No More Sad Songs being that low, Ready For It and Issues being that low :(

Surprised to see Echame La Culpa after being only a week!!
