"Dance To This" is reportedly to be released this Friday.
Ignore this post because Troye announced that this will be released on Wednesday.

Only really underwhelming and disappointing when compared to "Blue Neighbourhood" which was sublime/5 star. The singles are decent they just seem to lack the levels of the previous album.

hmmm I have mixed feelings regarding the disappointment from you guys which seems to spread further than just this forum - I feel Troye is getting a hard time for his label's messiness tbh. I think the main issue is that My My My came out way back in January and the album wasn't coming until 8(!) months later. (apparently because they didn't want to waste the SNL slot). So the whole campaign feels very drawn out with Troye drip feeding tracks of what is a very short album.

I don't think a single one of the tracks are weak, but in comparison to songs like 'Wild,' and 'Youth' which stuck out from the last album as kind of ~hits, nothing quite matches up. My My My is the closest and is a bit of a bop but I really think he would have been better off releasing that and maybe one other song and then releasing the album a month or two afterwards so we could consume it as one, it would have a much bigger impact and he wouldn't have lost so many people along the way.

I'm intrigued to hear 'Animal', because I'm still waiting to hear that 5/5 song that so many songs on his debut were, though like I said I'd rather just hear the songs in the context of the album now given we only have like 3 or 4 songs that will be new when it comes out. I feel like people would be a lot harsher on the songs if they weren't released one by one and could be discovered as part of a package.

Well put Joe. Though perhaps while he’s losing or potentially losing fans of BN, he now seems to have a huge following from teenyboppers - a lot of Ariana fans also now transferring onto Troye. So perhaps it’s not all bad for him... perhaps this is the market he’s aiming for now?

^ agreed - he is bigger than ever right now and has more fans than ever - it's just not all of the same fans that were here for him during BN era.

So many still love Rita Ora who has released singles non-stop and no album for like 8 years  at least this is one ERA. I don't see how a messy album campaign can impact on the enjoyment of an artist - not enjoying the music, I obviously do understand though.

The music is still GOOD for me and he is still such a positive influence. I am so here for how this album has sprouted and grown over the past 8 months and I can't wait to hear it as a complete collection.

I've liked all 3 singles but as a campaign is been all over the place especially Dance to This coming out soon after Bloom.

As a campign for the album it does feel like things have lost momentum... however that's from a UK basis; I think overall as Haus says he is bigger than he has been and the SNL performances and single Ariana has helped that.

bigger than ever? it's not really showing in the charts at all

I think Bloom was a mistake and they should have skipped it and release the Ari duet as a proper single but closer to the album release date

and with a bigger spotify push/payola if necessary

I definitely think he's a name moreso now than before - especially in blogger/fashion/social media sense. Like, in terms of selling concert tickets I can imagine him selling double the amount that he did during Blue Neighborhood.

I agree Bloom was the weakest link here. My My My followed by Dance to This closely followed by the album would have been strong.

Also Rita Ora is a another mess, and is possibly going to squander the good will, hype and continued hits due to her ridiculous games/"""album""" campaign.

Yes had Dance to This followed directly on from My My My then I think things would have felt a lot different and things would be stronger

Rita Ora shouldn't have released Girls and then she probably would be fine especially considering at the end of last year she had Lonely Together/ Anywhere in the charts

I get the feeling Ariana's label may not have let 'Dance To This' happen any or much sooner as not to take away any of the hype from her big comeback with NTLTC? That may have thrown the spanner in the works for that.

You mean, shouldn't have released the song that she performed at R1's big weekend, that everyone was gagging for and decided to turn against it one year later as it eventually gets released? (that whole thing still baffles me in all honesty lmao - I get why people weren't happy with it, but why not a year ago when the lyrics were the same?)

I feel like Joe has hit the nail on the head with Troye and this campaign. I just wish DTT took off and became the smash it deserves to be :snif:

I really quite like Animal. It’s very Zayn’s first album (when he was good). I still think it would have benefitted more from being found on the album as it’s a very subtle track and I feel like it being released as a single will leave people disappointed.
Animal is nice enough but not single material, lacks punch

My copy arrived early today!!! The album works brilliantly as a package, superbly uplifting and a great progression from Blue Neighbourhood, yet remains very "Troye" in most parts. My only issue is how SHORT it is :( could definitely have enjoyed another couple of tracks (although I guess there's the Target/HMV bonus tracks still...!)

An initial rank:

1. My My My!

2. Lucky Strike - this has hit me SO HARD instantly and I think it could become my favourite in time. What an absolute stunner.

3. Dance to This

4. Plum

5. Seventeen

6. Bloom

7. Animal

8. Postcard

9. The Good Side

10. What a Heavenly Way to Die - a lovely song still, it says it all when this is my least favourite

The singles benefit from familiarity and the newer songs could well climb as time goes on!
