03. x- ED SHEERAN (8-2-3-3) 3,246,100

And so what happened to Emeli Sande in 2012/13 happened to Sheeran in 14/15, the clear winner in sales terms in the first year and on course to become the best seller again in the second year until beaten at the last minute. “x” consolidated Sheeran’s place in pop and set the benchmark by which his future albums would be measured, “÷” therefore still has some way to go but half the issue is that this continues to sell well.

Performance in 2017: Present and correct all year with 20 weeks in the top 10 and a No 3 peak with almost 350,000 copies sold!

02. 25- ADELE (3-2-2) 3,441,500

Naturally the top 2 belong to Adele, let’s have a quick recap of the feats of the album include the largest opening weekly sale of 800,000 which was followed by 4 weeks with over 350k registering 5 of the 21 biggest weekly sales of all time and becoming the fastest album to reach first the million mark (10 days) then the 2 million mark (29 days) and finally the 3 million mark (220 days). The final landmark coincided with her star turn at Glastonbury which saw the album return to No 1 and yet it’s still 1.6 million away from making it to the top here!

Performance in 2017: Only 7 weeks in the top 10 but charted for 43 weeks and almost 200,000 copies shifted.

01. 21- ADELE (1-1-1-1-1-1-1) 5,068,400

Still easily clear and looking untouchable, “21” is of course the best selling album of the decade so far and the fourth biggest album of all time selling its five millionth copy in 2016. It spent its first 72 weeks in the top 10 including 23 weeks at No 1 even stealing a cheeky week in the top 10 in 2016 after her Glastonbury stint. It launched her as an international superstar and sold 3.8 million in its first year on the charts becoming the best selling album in the UK for 2011 and then the second biggest seller of 2012- could anything brake her top 2 stranglehold by 2020?

Performance in 2017: Only present for 26 weeks and peaking at No 43 but then it’s more than performed overall!

Ed should easily pass buble in the next 12 months and will come close to breaking the Adele top 2 but she will probably release something in the next 24 (36 months do you count 2020) don’t think it will be as mammoth as 21 but could do a 25 or slightly less

Ed could do a divide rerelease though that could break top 2

If 2020 is counted we could possibly be looking at a 3/4 ed Adele 6 or out of top 10 if they both release something

Great to see little mix climbing hopefully they can have another successful campaign and end with 3 albums top 100

Thanks gezza for the hard work really interesting

Thanks for all your comments- see you next January for the final rundown!
Good to see Christmas continuing to break the Edele domination - should take x position by the end of the decade!
Thank you for the effort put in to running the countdown! A shame the chart has remained static overall for the last couple of years but pleasing to see that Adele is still the Queen.
Read all of this as usual Gezza, thanks for taking the time to post it again this year ^_^

Thanks for doing this again Gezza, great thread.

Mammoth sales for Ed and Adele. Can't see anything coming near 21 this decade, especially as album sales are in decline, but I guess you never know when the next musical phenomenon will come along.

Thank you Gezza! Always great to see this rundown!

Gezza, do you have any info on 1D's Made in the AM? Their only album that didnt made the Top 100! :(

Also thanks for all sales and info, see you next year.

Seems likely that there'll be more Ed than Adele in the top 3 next year, but at least '21' is absolutely unbeatable.
