Greg James is getting a new time slot of 7am till 10.30am as BBC Radio 1 returns to a new regular schedule from 1st September.

 

The new schedule means Clara Amfo’s show will move to 10.30am – 1pm, followed by Scott Mills from 1 – 3.30pm and Nick Grimshaw from 3.30 – 6pm.

 

 

Radio 1’s Future Sounds with Annie Mac moving forward an hour to a new 6 – 8pm slot with the Hottest Record in the World feature moving from 7.30pm to the start of the show at 6pm.

 

Rickie, Melvin and Charlie will now host 8pm till 10pm and a brand new show, Radio 1’s Future Artists with Jack Saunders, will air Monday – Wednesdays from 10pm – midnight with a focus on supporting music from artists at the very beginning of their careers as they begin their journey with Radio 1. Jack will continue to host Radio 1’s Indie Show on Thursday evenings in the new time slot of 10pm – midnight.

 

Aled Haydn Jones, Head of Radio 1, says: “As a station it’s important we evolve along with the changing needs of our young listeners and I’m pleased to be able to introduce some important changes to the schedule with that in mind as we return to an on-air format that our listeners know and love. A new time slot for Radio 1 Breakfast means we can bring Greg’s trademark brand of light-hearted entertainment to as many young people as possible, while bringing our evening schedule an hour earlier means we can do even more to support new music and breaking new UK artists.”

The whole chart doesn’t need to be broadcast anymore and hasn’t been for some time now so no point changing it now and Party Anthems is still popular!

Good to see them returning back to four presenters in the day after all, and for Jordan North to get a proper weekend slot than his previous one day a week. I think he deserves it considering all the supply work he does!! Although the departure of Maya and Alice has meant the female representation during the day is a bit lacking all week oops

 

Don’t really get why Greg’s show isn’t until 10, particularly when Clara has the 15 minute Newsbeat in her show!

It worked back in the late 90s and early 2000s when there a high number of new entries every week. To go back it to it in an age of such a slow paced chart would be stupid.

Well Friday is no better they could have the shifted the chart show an hour earlier, then have Party Anthems followed by Dance Anthems, to keep the theme consistent. But I don't think they are able to as the Chart show always started at 4pm no matter day it falls on, I think its because sometimes they receive the chart late from OCC, And Radio 1 needs to get the playlist ready for the show.

They have 'Best New Pop' on Friday mornings so are already doing that.

She’ll be doing Saturdays too as far as I’m aware and it wouldn’t surprise me if she does Sundays either. She does “present” The Chillout Show usually.

I think Annie Nightingale's place on R1 is probably secure for as long as she wants it at this stage (and for good reason x).

The chart wasnt even played in full in the 80s son I big deal but the show used to be three hours. Just think the scheduling is a bit inconsistent with dance anthems startin the weekend then stopping for the two hour chart in between.

Vick Hope has been named as the new co-host of The Official Chart: First Look and Radio 1’s Life Hacks.

 

From Sunday 6 September, Vick will join current host Katie Thistleton on Life Hacks from 4-6pm, a show dedicated to open and frank discussion of issues affecting young people, and the Official Chart: First Look, which takes place between 6-7pm every Sunday counting down the Top 20 biggest songs in the UK, based on preliminary sales and streaming data from the first 48 hours of the week's chart race.

 

In a statement Vick Hope said, "Joining the BBC Radio 1 family is an absolute dream come true. I grew up listening to Radio 1 religiously, and am honoured to present Life Hacks, a show that is so important to me and so many listeners.

 

"I am excited to be a part of continuing to build this community of support and advice and look forward to turning my hand to hosting The Official Chart: First Look too."

 

Vick has previously worked as a presenter for MTV, ITV and Channel 4, as well as spending three years co-hosting Capital FM's Breakfast Show. She also appeared on Strictly Come Dancing 2018.

 

Her appointment comes as current co-host Cel Spellman announces he is leaving to focus on other commitments.

Radio 1 recently announced a shake up in their scheduling from 1 September, including changes to time slots for Radio 1 Breakfast with Greg James and Future Sounds with Annie Mac, plus a brand new show dedicated to supporting emerging artists hosted by Jack Saunders.

On Saturday and Sunday from 11am-3pm on Radio 1, Dev and Jordan North will host two special shows featuring some of their favourite past live performances from Reading and Leeds, including Billie Eilish and The 1975, while on Sunday, Dan P Carter and Jack Saunders will go head to head with some of their favourite rock and indie tracks from artists who have performed over the years at the festival.

 

On Monday 31 August, Radio 1’s Rock Show will cover the slot for Radio 1’s Future Sounds with Annie Mac (7pm-9pm), with Dan P Carter playing out more festival highlights from some of the biggest rock acts who have graced the stages.

Having been a success this time last year, the night time takeover is happening again this Bank Holiday on 31st August

BBC Radio 1’s Live Lounge Month will return this September, despite covid-19 restrictions.

 

The annual month-long event will see a different artist perform live during Clara Amfo’s morning show, at noon each day (Monday to Thursday).

 

From Tuesday 2 September to Wednesday 30 September, a yet to be announced lineup of stars will perform live versions of their own tracks, plus live covers.

 

Radio 1’s Live Lounge attracts some of the biggest names across the globe and in the UK with last year’s lineup including Justin Bieber, The 1975, Stormzy, Sam Fender, Lewis Capidi and many more.

 

This year, Miley Cyrus, Little Mix, Biffy Clyro, Declan McKenna and Yungblud are among those who will perform.
