Amazing for Bodyguard! I'm a few episodes behind as I'm watching on catch up, but really enjoying it! :D

Last night's overnight for Bodyguard is my standout rating of the year so far! It feels like ages since we had a new hit grow out of nowhere like this? Incredible!

That 11m consolidated figures puts it at the second most watched programme of the year (obviously excl. World Cup matches) and only a smidge behind BGT. It will easily exceed that next week!!

I think Wanderlust may be their biggest ever drama flop?!

AFAIK, these are the primetime dramas in the last two years that have received an overnight rating lower than 2m. In brackets is the average:

The Musketeers (2.41m): 2.27m - 2.25m - 1.6m - 2.24m - 2.57m - 2.62m - 2.78m - 2.43m - 2.76m - 2.6m

New Blood (2.3m): 3.3m - 2.7m - 2.6m - 1.9m - 1.3m - 2.3m - 2m

The Living & The Dead (2.11m): 3.15m - 2.1m - 2.1m - 1.8m - 1.8m - 1.7m

Hard Sun (2.11m): 3.4m - 2.19m - 1.84m - 1.8m - 1.81m - 1.61m

Requiem (2.11m): 3.43m - 2.22m - 2.14m - 1.9m - 1.43m - 1.56m

Rellik (1.94m): 3.6m - 2.09m - 1.53m - 1.46m - 1.52m - 1.42m

Troy: Fall of a City (1.77m): 3.21m - 2.12m - 1.92m - 1.61m - 1.28m - 1.45m - 1.28m - 1.32m

Troy has the lowest with 1.28m although, like many of the dramas on the list, it was available on iPlayer before being broadcast on TV. The Saturday night spot is also notoriously tricky for dramas too, I think.

The Musketeers and New Blood were thrown around the schedule (the latter was also available on iPlayer and I believe the episode that rated 1.3m clashed with the Euro games).

Rellik is definitely the biggest flop for me. It was on Monday nights at 9pm, I think it cost a bit, and was predicted to do quite well (certainly remember most people thinking it would outdo Liar which aired on ITV at the same time). As well as Liar taking off, I think the fact that Doctor Foster was also airing (the following night) and doing so well may have affected the ratings for Rellik. Doctor Foster was tense, high-energy drama whereas Rellik was quite slow and confusing and I think everyone judged dramas at the time by the standards of Doctor Foster. I think we're seeing a similar thing happen at the moment with everyone comparing all the dramas to Bodyguard.

Not me watching three of those series, why do I always stick with the flops! tbf I did actually enjoy The Living and the Dead and, to a lesser extent Requiem. Sometimes horror just doesn’t stick sadly. Requiem also just needed to be 2 episodes shorter and have a better defined plot. Rellik was just...not good.

Wanderlust is only a suprising flop because of it’s cast. I’m suprised the premise is getting primetime treatment but stars like Toni Collette and Sophie Okendo should be helping to keep the show afloat.

Wednesday 19th September

BBC 1

21:00 DIY SOS: The Big Build - 2.5m (13.9%)

ITV (inc. +1)

20:00 Bad Move - 2.9m (16.8%)

-

21:00 Joanna Lumley's Silk Road Adventure - 2.9m (16.5%)

Apparently Corrie got 4.8m last night for the second episode :o That's really bad, yes we’ve had a hot summer and the World Cup but it was getting better ratings than that in July and August! It’s really not great right now and it’s a shame this is happening after all the good work of Kate Oates (Phelan aside) :/

Thursday 20th September

BBC 1

21:00 Press - 1.9m (11.1%)

ITV (inc. +1)

21:00 No Offence - 950k (5.6%)

Channel 5 (inc. +1)

21:00 North Korea with Michael Palin - 2.4m (14.4%)

Channel 5 won the 9pm slot. Another BBC drama under 2m in September, oops.

From last night:

9pm:

North Korea with Michael Palin: 2.4m (14.4%)

To Catch a Serial Killer: 2.1m (12.2%)

Emmerdale 1918: 2.4m (13.5%)

The Circle: 450,000 (3.7%)

All inc +1

It has become very difficult to get detailed ratings for programmes.

Christ that’s awful for No Offence

Wonder how much influence the fact that the whole season is already available on Sky, Virgin and NowTV will be having. Can’t see a series 4 at this rate though
