January 22, 20188 yr Yeah, same. I'm actually surprised more people don't do this. this is a music forum, so all people here are music fans, but the regular person who only listens to music in his/her car or at social gatherings will not bother creating a playlist for each mood, they usually tend to listen to the most visible playlists on spotify....therefore the advantage some songs have on others when they get included on these playlists....

Agreed with this. Outside say, this forum, a lot of the people I know struggle to tell you what the name of a song is or who it's by. There are even people out there who don't know who Ed Sheeran is!
January 22, 20188 yr When Apple stops digital downloads - as there is talk of - is it time to introduce radio into the UK charts? Otherwise Spotify will have pretty much complete control of what charts.
January 22, 20188 yr A big no to radio. At least with streaming you get to choose whether to skip, with radio the song would count even if you turned the radio off. also imagine if Nick Grimshaw released a song and Radio 1 spammed it 24/7 just to get it into the charts
January 22, 20188 yr When Apple stops digital downloads - as there is talk of - is it time to introduce radio into the UK charts? Otherwise Spotify will have pretty much complete control of what charts. Surely not, that means there's even more control from labels over how the charts look. Basically telling us what is popular and what isn't without any parameter to measure it. Though I suppose if the audience number at the time the song is played is taken in to account per song play for weighting, then it isn't much different to streaming playlists, bar the fact you can skip songs on playlists. I don't think there is any fix for the charts. How it is now is how it is going to remain for a long time I'd think.
January 22, 20188 yr I don't think the chart is worth fixing anymore, incorporating Airplay will kill it
January 22, 20188 yr I guess my issue with streaming playlists isn't what is on there, but rather what's not on there. Take Sigrid, for example - no 1 on iTunes with a huge lead, but not on the Hot Hits Playlist - so she charts at no 29. At least including radio will rectify that to some degree where she is no 13 this week. At the end of the day radio and Spotify playlists are both passive forms of music consumption, so I don't really see why we would include one but not the other.
January 22, 20188 yr When everyone is allowed to decide exactly what is played on each radio station and when, I might consider it. The only way I can see the playlist effect being reduced is by using something like making the first stream count as a sale then nothing else (like a few people have been discussing recently). That would probably give us a chart similar to the ones in the 00s where songs debuted high then fell fast.
January 22, 20188 yr Hopefully Spotify will eventually have a wider demographic of people using it as the "older" generation begin to use streaming services.
January 22, 20188 yr At the end of the day radio and Spotify playlists are both passive forms of music consumption, so I don't really see why we would include one but not the other. Maybe because you can't skip songs on the radio... Including airplay into the chart would be the worst decision in the history of the chart ever.
January 22, 20188 yr Still think YouTube should be included you are looking for the songs after all(official or lyric videos only though )
January 22, 20188 yr Payola playlists or not, at least there is some degree of choice on Spotify. People pick Hot Hits UK because they like the look of what's on there. They've got the choice to skip a song or choose another if they want. Radio is different. Even if people didn't want to listen to a track and switched over, it's still being played and would count anyway...

I don't think there is any fix for the charts. How it is now is how it is going to remain for a long time I'd think. The number of listeners at any one time is only an estimate. OTOH, the number of streams is an accurate figure, for six days anyway.
January 22, 20188 yr Still think YouTube should be included you are looking for the songs after all(official or lyric videos only though ) They have never included downloads of music videos in the chart, why should they start including music video streaming now too?
January 22, 20188 yr Still think YouTube should be included you are looking for the songs after all(official or lyric videos only though ) Totally agree, its about time too.... YouTube is a form of active listening and i think official music videos and lyric videos and audio streams should count into the chart same as spotify...
January 22, 20188 yr They have never included downloads of music videos in the chart, why should they start including music video streaming now too? Because they were never relevant, why bother pay for a music video when you can access it on YouTube anytime u want???
January 22, 20188 yr Still think YouTube should be included you are looking for the songs after all(official or lyric videos only though ) I agree, I actually think youtube is more accurate than Spotify in terms of what is popular. People have to actively look for what they want to listen to and watch.
January 22, 20188 yr From OCC: The Greatest Showman will be hoping for an encore, as the cast recording of the Hugh Jackman movie prepares to spend a third week in the limelight atop the Official Albums Chart. The soundtrack currently heads up a relatively close Top 3 on today's Update, just over 2,100 combined chart sales ahead of Fall Out Boy, who are at Number 2 and eager for their first UK chart-topping album with seventh studio album Mania. And a mere 548 chart sales farther back? It's First Aid Kit, whose fourth album Ruins starts at Number 3 – looking pretty certain to give the Swedish folk duo their first Top 10. Fab to see TGS getting another week at #1 hopefully <3
January 22, 20188 yr Fall Out Boy are at #2 and First Aid Kit are at #3 so far. At least they’re not being kept off the top by Ed Sheeran
