Rather sceptical of that being true, but if so I think it could work quite well. It sounds like it could ends up being similar to The Doctor/Donna i.e both the Doctor & the companion of a similar age, with the companion being an actor with an established career beforehand, as buddies. Could work well.

Kris Marshall to be rumoured for every guest role in the next series too? *_*

!!!

*companion revealed to not be Kris* Next day: 'Kris Marshall lined up to play The Master'

Is Kris Marshall paying the press or something?

So we may still be getting Kris Marshall in this anyway. My mum was so relieved he wasn't the Doctor, imagine if she finds out he's the companion or new Master.

(I can't see us having any Master for this season actually considering the last season was really focused on that character, would be good to give it a rest)

Yeah I can see Chibnall resting the Master for a little bit, just like Moffat did for series 5-7!

I think if we're getting a male companion, I'd prefer someone younger than Kris Marshall really. I wouldn't have minded him as the Doctor but I cannot imagine him as a companion at ALL.

Ooh interesting. Kris Marshall would be fab in a significant role.
I think Kris would be good. If they're gonna break the mold of having a young female then go all the way tbh. He's older but not too old. Like a male Donna.
Oh so it's not Michelle Ryan then :nocheer: Already reviewed the series in the rate thread but I'll say that I'm very intrigued to see what a female Doc will bring! (In universe, I theorise he became female because he tried so hard to prevent regeneration...idk  ) I can sort of understand the division between the fans who are used to a male Doc and think it'll all be too feminine. I'm not making any assumptions and I'm sure she's going to put some interesting/new concepts to the show  this'll also mean a chance at getting a more prominent male companion :o (idk about Kris though but #we'llsee) Rory was great as well as some of the others but I'd like to see what a male companion can offer other than a friend or boyfriend of the main companion (also bring Capt. Jack back PLZZZ :snif:)

Came across something interesting that I didn't know before. In the 80s, the creator of Doctor Who considered making the Time Lord a woman, with Dawn French among the contenders (which would have also made her one of the youngest Doctors as well, as she would have been 30 at the time). It wasn't to be, as they went with Sylvester McCoy in the end, with the show coming to it's first end with his tenure.

Sylvester McCoy was awful. I'm sure Dawn French would have been a lot better.

In a further comment, it's interesting to see Frances de le Tour mentioned in the article as she was also mentioned in the latest speculation about the next Doctor. I think she would have been a good choice although I suspect that they were always going to go for a younger actor after Peter Capaldi.

lol at turning on the TV to 'Trust Me' - and old man asking Jodie Whittaker if she was a doctor... dramatic pause... "Yes, I am"!!! :D

According to the Daily Mirror,

Bradley Walsh

is the new companion.

Obviously taking it with a very large pinch of salt, but not sure that would work. At all.

Yeh, that's a ridiculous rumour.

A more likely role for him may be part of the companion's family.

I took it with so much salt, I was taken to hospital with sodium poisoning.

I was thinking that. I wouldn't mind him appearing if he were a companion's relative, but being *the* companion, I just can't imagine.
