Now in terms of sales, Shape Of You is probably the best selling song of the decade. However, with a mix of sales and impact in general, what song do you think is the biggest hit of the decade?

I’d say ‘Despacito’.

Well, if "Shape Of You" is the biggest seller of the decade then I'd say "Shape Of You".

Was it "Happy" before?

But IMO I don’t think sales and chart peaks define everything.

For example, I consider Chandelier by Sia bigger than most of 2014’s #1’s.

Happy, Uptown Funk, Shape of You, Despacito

I think those are the biggest 4 no matter how people look at things

Yeah I’d agree with those 4. Stick in either Rolling in the Deep or Someone Like You to round it off to a top 5

I think I’d be tempted to say Uptown Funk but that may be my personal preference influencing me!

hasn't Chandelier outsold most of 2014's #1's anyway?

I would say 'Happy' by Pharrell Williams in terms of being a cultural phenomenon.

The biggest seller of the decade is comfortably “Happy” by Pharrell Williams (1,921,805 in September 2017) and due to the collapse in digital sales that won't be overtaken.

“Uptown Funk” is in 2nd though with 1.65 million physical+download sales.

As a sort of rough tier, I think his is how I'd rank them:

Uptown Funk, Shape Of You, Happy, Despacito

Rolling In The Deep, Can't Stop The Feeling, Thinking Out Loud, Rather Be, Chandelier, Wake Me Up, Titanium

Somebody That I Used To Know, Someone Like You, Pompeii, Love The Way You Lie, We Found Love, One Dance, Just the Way You Are, Get Lucky, Paradise

I don't think anyone can doubt the Top 4 although obviously the next is more personal preference than actual cultural impact. As far as I'm aware all of these are at over 1 million chart sales, and I'm fairly sure that no one will have been able to escape hearing any of these at least once.

I'd definitely add Blurred Lines, Party Rock Anthem & Rockabye into that mix too^ all very inescapable at their peaks!

Possibly Sorry by JB too

Also: what would we say is the biggest hit of the 2000s under this way of thinking too? Surely not Evergreen!

Arguably 'Mr Brightside' seeing as that still manages to make the weekly top 100 fairly often despite being on ACR.

It's on over 2 million chart sales now, has overtaken Evergreen by some margin - so I'd agree with you.

Hallelujah, Chasing Cars, Sex On Fire and Bleeding Love I imagine would be up there too. Also add Umbrella, Lose Yourself, Cry Me A River, Toxic & Feel Good Inc. maybe

Rockabye was my first shout, absolutely huge in the UK (I assume we're meaning UK?). Rather Be would be a decent contender too, that was everywhere at the time. Shape of You, Uptown Funk, Blurred Lines would be my other standout picks.

Happy, Despacito and others don't feel to've had quite the same lasting impact; likewise for any of the long-running Drake songs.

Dexton basically all of those are the previous decade :P this decade is 2010 on
