June 15, 20187 yr 01 | 02 | 6th week Jess Glynne I'll Be There Great job Jess Glynne for reaching that song #1 this week! 'I'll Be There' is such a big pop tune this year.
June 15, 20187 yr Why has he been so adamant that this is the "only chart that counts" and that "it's the OFFICIAL chart" so its better? Not that I'm complaining but whats going on here :P Probably because the Big Top 40 on Capital exists, and is quite popular Edited June 15, 20187 yr by Tedward
June 15, 20187 yr Why has he been so adamant that this is the "only chart that counts" and that "it's the OFFICIAL chart" so its better? Not that I'm complaining but whats going on here :P It's just a throwback to what Bruno Brookes used to say in the 90s.
June 15, 20187 yr I don't mind Jess Glynne but the fact that I'll Be There has gone #1, yet Paradise and No Tears Left To Cry were denied it irks me greatly
June 15, 20187 yr Probably because the Big Top 40 on Capital exists! And iTunes, Spotify, numerous charts all over video channels.. they might as well make a big deal about this being the actual chart
June 15, 20187 yr It's just a throwback to what Bruno Brookes used to say in the 90s. Was there some sort of commercial radio rival chart back then?
June 15, 20187 yr One week for Jess i feel. And thats 1 week more than the song should be. Its absolute dribble. She is so overated.
June 15, 20187 yr Was there some sort of commercial radio rival chart back then? The rivalry goes back to 1984.
June 15, 20187 yr Was there some sort of commercial radio rival chart back then? Yep - the commercial radio chart has existed since about 1984 or something? Then in 1993 Neil Fox started the Pepsi Chart, which took the official top 10 (sales & airplay 11-40), and that really quickly stole a lot of listeners from Radio 1. So "The only chart that counts" was one of the things they used to say a lot on the R1 show around 1994 to remind people that the other charts were made up.
June 15, 20187 yr ... and I guess Scott has just added it in as a cute way of making his mark on the show
June 15, 20187 yr The irony being that even this chart is now manipulated from being a realistic reflection of what is popular by ACR.
June 15, 20187 yr Someone suggest to radio 1 to do a full top 40 countdown. Preferably with a revamped version of “At the Sign of the Swinging Cymbal”. Nevermind I’m asking for too much already.
June 15, 20187 yr The irony being that even this chart is now manipulated from being a realistic reflection of what is popular by ACR. The whole thing is more manipulated than it's ever been. But that's just the way it is, I guess.
June 15, 20187 yr The irony being that even this chart is now manipulated from being a realistic reflection of what is popular by ACR. Mmm, but on the other hand, ever since they added streams to the chart it's had to be manipulated in some way. Even if they'd never introduced ACR they still had to decide how to calculate the streams to sales ratio, and adding sales and streams together has made the chart somewhat artificial.
June 15, 20187 yr Yesss the Queen is back on her throne! Just how does she keep doing it?!? We are truly blessed.
June 15, 20187 yr Well done to Jess, but i would think next week it is a battle between Clean Bandit and George Ezra. Both are wonderful and i would welcome both getting at least a week at number 1.
June 15, 20187 yr Glad to see Jess getting the #1 and extending her record even though this isn't her best song ever (but it is good, a hell of a lot better than 'These Days' at least). Clean Bandit can get it next week. Or preferably George Ezra. Yay for Tom Walker and Cardi B going top 10, M-22 on the rise again, Jorja Smith's 'Blue Lights' FINALLY going top 40 (first heard that literally years ago!) and Juice WRLD sneaking in as well ~ Solo, Shotgun, Better Now, and I Like It all deserve to be #1s here tbh... and I bet Solo is the only one that'll actually make it also this ('Better Now' to hopefully make it if/when it gets a video? I don't see 'I Like It' getting as high as #1 but hope it can keep climbing)
