So Tina absolutely cannot talk about Stuart.

She then promptly goes completely out of her way to force Halfway to discuss him with her.

I've given up, EVERY time I think hey I'll give it a chance, it completely puts me off by co-incidentally being an awful Stuart heavy episode :drama:

He was barely even in it last night but even others talking about him is boring.

Let what is the message with this storyline? That the Carters are such bad judges of character, it’s taken them 20 years to notice their mate is a psycho?

Classic Eastenders on Drama was great to see the classic characters again for full episodes rather than just clips. Apparently it might only be on for 6 weeks for some reason, but if ratings were decent they might continue.
I actually dread watching this show these days. (Not my choice to watch.) I was done about 6 months ago. The whole thing is so cringey, predictable and boring.

I'm honestly amazed they're allowing it to continue being this terrible. The knife crime storyline seemed like a brief blip in a huge mess and it's been like this for at least 18 months. I remain optimistic it will pick up, Corrie had a rough patch a few years ago and has come back better than ever IMO but there are no signs of any improvement here.

The Stuart storyline has been stupid from start to finish. He arrives and we're immediately meant to find him threatening and scary, but why? I'd rather they introduced him as a nice guy, perhaps a little unhinged but nothing more, and built him up as a villain from there (see: Phelan in Corrie, Lachlan in Emmerdale - they didn't start out being the most evil people ever, a string of events led to them ending up where they did). This seems to be the problem with most EastEnders villains these days, we're supposed to fear them just because. It's not a sci-fi show with the need for constant villains.

Honestly!! How have they not intervened and got someone else in, when John Yorke came in I was really hopeful that because he was behind the Slaters and some iconic moments, he'd be able to bring it back round but other than flashes of the good from the Slaters and the knife crime plot there's been absolutely nothing. I suppose it's not just up to an EP and there's a whole team of writers that needs to go honestly but they really need to do something. They're just not even trying as said, there's either nothing happening or it's just Stuart or the effects of Stuart for a whole episode. Some of the stuff that's happening like the Slaters' christening would be fine as sort of "B plot" stuff to actual things happening, but watching Hayley fit in with the Slaters slowly isn't enough to make the show watchable or good when there's so much turgid shite to wade through otherwise.

I really think that they need to get rid of Danny Dyer but they won’t. The Carters are stale as they are but they keep being overused because they think that Danny Dyer is the only thing keeping them afloat. They clearly had no idea what they were doing with this Stuart stuff but they’re also giving it all the airtime because they think it’s a cash cow. Linda, Shirley and even Tina feel constrained as characters because they’re chained to Mick and I think they’d flourish without him. It’s been almost 5 years but get them out the Vic and get someone new in.

Spoilers for the next week or so all seem to be about Sharon and Keanu which I’m looking forward to but what’s the betting we have about 2 good episodes and then we’re back on Stuart?

I’m not ready to jump ship yet which surprises me because I did after only a couple of episodes when Zainab got that awful exit in 2013. For me I feel like the pretty strong cast can save it, it’s not like we’ve had a mass exodus of big names like Nina Wadia, Charlie Brooks and Jo Joyner back then. But they do need to use what they have properly-Honey, Jay, Sharon and Kathy are all underused.

Jean is literally the only life giving character at the moment.

I hope it’s on longer. I really enjoyed watching it on catch up last night. Looking forward to watching again later on!

I’m half expecting them to kill off Mariam before Christmas a la Joyce.
Ik people have had their problems with her, but she's very good at hard hitting issues which is really what EE needs right now. I mean look at how great the knife crime plot was, it wasn't too sensationalist or jumping the shark it was just a real and impactful issue that gave underused characters a chance to shine. That's what the show needs, some more issue based storylines and the like. This "realism" or whatever on earth they're going for right now might be good on paper but it's just terminally dull virtually all the time. And say what you want about Kate Oates (and there were still holes in her time there, such as Mary's son pretending to be a marine biologist and Toyah/Eva's fake baby shite) but the shape that Corrie is in after her stint compared to after Stuart Blackburn had ruined it to a level that's not far off EE right now is incredible.

Confirmed by Kate!! *.*

Metro.co.uk understands that Kate’s main focus will be on EastEnders, as Casualty and Holby City will retain their current series producers.

Thank god, the longest time I’ve watched EastEnders is like five months in 2014, I’ve watched a fair amount since then but caught last Friday’s episode and just couldn’t.

I was not a fan of most of Kate's work on Corrie (and some of it I detested) but there's no denying her enthusiasm and her ability to get people talking about the shows she works on. That is one of the biggest things missing from Eastenders and I think she'll be able to reinstate that.

Hopefully she can shake up the writing team and fix characterisation too.

She's taking over from October so we'll start seeing her work from probably December/January 2019. It looks like that's when I'll start watching :D
