August 5, 20187 yr We need one after the crap that got there last year :D What was it? I honestly canβt remember!
August 5, 20187 yr Author What was it? I honestly canβt remember!Β Run Away With Me. Probably the most surprised I've been at a winner, but a wonderful one nonetheless.Β

Β A rather surprising new entry to me, Carly Rae's cult status on Buzzjack continues to grow as Cut To The Feeling breezed its way into the final this year, doing far better than I ever expected it to. It's also another great pop song from her. Move and American Boy finish on the same points, with the latter inching ahead on the tiebreak and finishing its 10 year run, with all but the first within the top 200, on a high at #76. I'm sure Joseph will be happy. Β Hideaway, The Edge Of Glory and Bulletproof move around the final a small bit, as does How Deep Is Your Love. This year saw however the first appearance in the final of Gecko (Overdrive), a song I've never been particularly well disposed towards, but it clearly had a very good year here.
August 5, 20187 yr Oh my gosh I love that Cat Empire song and I've never even noticed but I can totally hear it
August 5, 20187 yr great to see Porter Robinson, Kungs, Clean Bandit Oliver Heldens and Avicii getting new peaks, and that's a nice and high debut for On My Mind.Β Lonely Together and You Don't Know Me really should be top 100 but in the section just outside is good too.

Ghost is also not in a rush, as what I believe was the former multichart #1 (unless I'm misremembering) moves up a mere one place from its last outing. It's a similar movement for the Veronicas' Untouched, although this is significant to them as they're gaining a new peak on their penultimate go.Β Telephone falls to its lowest position yet, something does surprise me as it seems like it should have fallen lower one year or other by now. It retains its 100% final appearance rate, showing an impressive retention rate for 'the other single from The Fame Monster' (despite being the best, Alejandro is apparently not even in this conversation). Β I'm Not Alone also on its penultimate go, has had a fairly wild run throughout the top 200 but seems to be gaining in appreciation in recent years, I can barely keep track of the thousands of Calvin Harris singles these days but seeing one of the older ones, and perhaps the one that most represents his original sound, do so well is lovely. Uptown Funk bounces back into the final after missing it last year, gaining a new peak. Still plenty of time for that one to generate a good run.Β The Saturdays leave the competition on what is, again, surprisingly, a new peak for All Fired Up. I thought love for that would have peaked ages ago, yet despite it being the only Saturdays song in the final (a travesty in itself), it's done better than it's ever done before, even with the loons at their lowest ebb.Β Mozart's House was towards the bottom of the final at about halfway through the voting, fortunately, it recovered to vastly improve its year on year score, this unique hit being the first one to start off the wonderful story of Clean Bandit and their transformation into the best chart act out there. Also Starboy means the Weeknd leaves the competition with his final song, getting a new peak.Β We see the first loss from last year's top 10, as What's My Name falls. This song has been last in the final, been top 10, and been middling. It's a rare song that has its support fluctuate so much within the window of this one round, year to year, but somehow What's My Name does that. Explanations if you have them.
August 5, 20187 yr A new high for American Boy! *.*Β It was good to see Something New back in the final this year, of course it deserves better but Buzzjack quite frankly doesn't deserve such an incredible barn-storming anthem.
August 5, 20187 yr I continue to be baffled by the love Mozart's House gets while Dust Clears is left to fall by the wayside.Β Glad to see Telephone fall, I get that it's a star power big collab and the video is good but the nonsense lyrics and of its time production has left me cold for a while now.Β Lush Life underperforming! And unlucky for What's My Name, but top ten seems like a fluke for it, tho it is one of my own faves of hers.
August 6, 20187 yr I'm amazed that 'On The Floor' has never been higher than #77 in this, it's the sort of song I'd think would be a top 10 contender most years and #77 being its lowest position rather than highest.Β Very pleased to see 'American Boy' going out on a high and 'Set Fire To The Rain' back in the top 100!
August 6, 20187 yr What happened to you procrastinating on this? I am away for the weekend and miss nearly half of the results! will try to follow the rest more promptly xxΒ Catching up then: cool to see Kelly Rowland's 'Work' going out on a high, and the new peaks for 'I Got U'and 'Miami 2 Ibiza' too (the latter seems a little odd to be making a first top 200 appearance only now, it's hardly aged as well as their other songs!)Β Klangkarussell, Tim Berg and Porter Robinson narrowly missing the top 100 still hurts (you guys promise to make 'Language' win next year alright? xx) but still good new peaks as well as those for Example, Paramore's best song, Pendulum and The Temper Trap. '4 Minutes' never making the top 100 is pretty shocking!Β Most of the bottom 10 of the final I can't argue with (HA at 'Black Magic' coming dead last, and 'Something New' routinely defused) although u wot m8 at 'Lean On' (although iirc that was the very last song I cut from my final votes oops). Not much to write home about in 71-90 but a nice debut for Disciples, don't think I see it doing that well in future editions though. Yay for 'How Deep Is Your Love' climbing again too.Β Fantastic showing there from 'Mozart's House' for such a niche hit (although having said that we've still not seen Grimes yet either). Good new peaks for The Weeknd and The Veronicas too. Surprised 'Uptown Funk' is so low but not complaining as it's usually a little overrated on here. Ouch at that drop for poor brave 'What's My Name?', quite the chaotic run that's had!
August 6, 20187 yr Catching up! Great to see Demi and Cheryl get new peaks in the high 100s, hopefully both get a shot at the final within the next couple of years. Odd to see so many of Ariana's hits in the bottom 10 of the final but other than "Love Me Harder", I don't think they deserved to be there anyway. A nice new peak for "Rockabye" too but I am shocked that "Mozart's House" has out-performed it :o Β Also great to see Estelle going out on a high (doubt she'll ever trouble ROTD with anything else she has released or will release), weird to see "What's My Name?" drop so far, but it was a bit odd that it ranked top 10 in the first place. HOW has "All Fired Up" got so high this year?! It's nowhere near the Saturdays's best song, let alone best songs of the last decade.Β Eight of my top ten remain here (and 20 out of my entire top 30!) so it's going good for me so far.

Like with Grimes, which is still curiously absent, it looks like we've got another underdog supreme in the race for ROTD supremacy now.Β Sweet Nothing has never been a particularly standout Calvin song for me, but here it goes in the middle of two Rihanna songs on its first attempt at the final. 200 points is just about halfway up, so how much have the winners scored. Those two Rihanna songs are one in Diamonds, which is also seeing its first final and about time too for one of the best recent Rihanna songs, and Don't Stop The Music, which leaves the competition on what it would consider a respectable second-best ever finish.Β Touch just missed out on the eligibility for last year's ROTD but came back strong in this version, registering up a 200 point haul. I'd expect this to be one to watch for the future, and it is indeed already the highest Little Mix song.Β The highest Ellie Goulding song, and the only one in this years final is her obvious best, Figure 8. It hasn't done quite as well last year, but I'd say it hasn't done badly at all. Same for Blind Faith, on a third consecutive year between 50 and 70, when it was formerly a 200s roller.Β Rolling In The Deep falls to its lowest position yet, leaving only one song still in the race for Adele. Taylor also leaves us as her only representation in the final this year, the wonderful Blank Space, falls out with 190 points. Womanizer, one of the last Britney songs to do well in ROTD, although she still has one song left in this year, leaves the competition at a rather respectable 60th.
August 7, 20187 yr Excellent to see 'On Hold' making a good climb this year <3 here for that to be an underdog success story x 'Sweet Nothing' getting a deserved new peak too. I'd actually have thought 'Touch' would be contending for top 10 or so though :o maybe some time in the future. Glad to see 'Blind Faith' still doing pretty well too ~
August 8, 20187 yr Great performance for On Hold! Good to see Sweet Nothing up to a new peak and Blind Faith not falling too far as well.

Paramore's recent strong ROTD showings mean that it's a bit unsurprising that Hard Times goes in as high as #50 even with it not being a huge hit. Rose-Coloured Boy is still a lot better in every way but heh, it's a good song still. 2017's stars Dua Lipa and Camilla Cabello are the other two, with the huge beast of Havana and a Dua Lipa song that I'm not actually certain that I can recall. So opposite ends.Β Girls Aloud leave us with Untouchable almost back to its once obtained height. Disturbia leaves us and the competition entirely by climbing back a bit, but still a good way off where it was at its peak a couple of years ago. Rihanna songs are falling fast as Only Girl drops out as well. Β Don't You Worry Child and Chandelier both fall a little bit but maintain some very respectable runs, meanwhile Flesh Without Blood nearly maintains a second straight year in the top 40, a superb achievement for a song that was not a hit at all (a testament to its clear quality of course ^_^). And Levels shows a massive improvement on last year and all the years before to finally get the recognition it deserves as a fantastic dance song, and it's not the last Avicii song left either.Β
August 8, 20187 yr Surprised Havana didn't place higher as I'd thought it'd be a song that would've got a lot of votes. Β Good to see Don't You Worry Child still top 50, but shame about the drop
