The battle of Kiss Me Once and Kylie Christmas.

I would put both of these albums in the weaker category of Kylie's studio sets.

Both albums in ways are aimed in large at different markets with Kylie Christmas an album that may benefit more greatly from casual sales due to the nature of the album.

Which of the 2 albums do you prefer?

What are the high's and low's from both eras?

It's a close one for me. I actually really liked a lot of 'Kylie Christmas'. But I wish she'd not duetted with Cordon. :puke2:

I voted for 'Kiss Me Once', because I was in dire need of new, original Kylie music when it finally arrived. It had been so long since 'Aphrodite'.

It may not be her finest work, but it filled a void. And there are a few tracks I really enjoy - even the 'Sexercise' vid :P

'Kylie Christmas' only gets played in the winter months. But I expect I'll be listening to it every Christmas till I die.

Both albums are certainly disappointing.

I cant hand on my heart say i truly love any of the songs offered although some of them are pleasant.

With Kylie Christmas, i didn't really have any high expectations and as a result the album did not disappoint from that point of view.

Kiss Me Once, i was excited for the release and when the material arrived i was left extremely disappointed by what was on offer.

Kiss Me Once sounds rushed, lacks direction and lost some of Kylie in the process too.

Therefore i voted Kylie Christmas.

Without a doubt Kylie Christmas, it isn't perfect but it's one of the better Christmas albums out there with a wide variety of songs and is undeniably Kylie in both the song choice and execution. Kiss Me One is a mess, it was a mismatch of singer and sound (the likes of Les Sex just does not work at all).
Love them both but KMO although it seems it I s universally hated is one of my favourite Kylie albums :kink:

Les Sex is one of the few songs i do enjoy from the disappointing Kiss Me Once.

I do like Into The Blue but i forget it was a single from Kylie.

Crystalize was the best song from this time of her career and it should have made the final cut of the album.

The Christmas album, Kylie did put her own spin on it and getting some originals did boost the album.

Kylie also put on a great show at the Royal Albert Hall and the songs transitioned good live.

Kiss me once is just a disappointment; kylie Christmas is an ok album for what it is but I still prefer it to kiss me once.

I love everything about Kylie Christmas.

Kiss Me Once only has one good song on it, and the cover photo makes her look like she's trapped under the ice of a frozen pond.

Kiss Me Once! I do like Kylie Christmas, and it has a few great tracks on it, but besides that nothing more. Kiss Me Once is a bit of a mess, but has more highs (it gave us If Only *.*).
Kiss Me Once. Honestly I don't understand the level of hate it receives... these are all great tracks: Into the Blue, Million Miles, Feels So Good, If Only, Kiss Me Once, Fine.

I go back to about half of the tracks on Kiss Me Once these days, it's a bit of a "business as usual" album with some shoddy filler on it but has its keepers.

However, there are tracks on Kylie Christmas which are actual TORTURE. No exaggeration.

Kiss me once is an album I see why people do like it and why others don't, overall I don't think it has anything standout or memorable.

Kiss Me Once was hyped that Kylie was returning with a strong fresh pop album and with material the fans wanted from Kylie.

I feel it failed on both spectacularly.

Kylie Christmas, in short delivered what it said on the tin.

Kylie Christmas is far better. It’s more consistent and sounds more mature. Kiss me once is a very mixed affair, lacking in potential singles and sounds dated!

An interesting thing to note is that in terms of critical reception, Kiss Me Once was about as well received as her other albums (since Fever).

Metacritic:

68 - Fever

67 - Aphrodite

66 - Kiss Me Once

65 - X

63 - Golden

62 - Body Language

55 - Kylie Christmas

All of those scores indicate "generally favorable reviews", apart from Kylie Christmas which received "mixed or average reviews".

For me it's I Was Gonna Cancel, Sexercise, Beautiful & Mr President that are the album's most iffy moments (so I find it quite funny in a tragic sense that the label opted for the first 3 of those to represent the album beyond Into the Blue!). I'd say it's these tracks that are responsible for making Kiss Me Once come across as an album that lacked cohesion or a particular theme.

Feels So Good, If Only & Fine are great to my ears, not typical of Kylie in her Parlophone era - she stepped out of her comfort zone with these. I feel if the album had explored these vibes further, then she'd have been onto a winner. So underrated. :( I think the title track is a highlight, it's so euphoric. Million Miles has an edge to it. I regard Into the Blue as being one of her best singles, it's glorious! Sleeping with the Enemy is lovely too. Les Sex & Sexy Love are nice... rather "Kylie on autopilot", but fine!

So yeah, I don't think Kiss Me Once "failed spectacularly" on the material front. I find the narrative of supposedly the vast majority of the fan base hating Kiss Me Once to have become exaggerated over the years... maybe that's been shaped by the bad single choices & the sales. I don't recall a particularly bad reaction initially.

Kylie Christmas... is what it is, background music for the festive period. Most of the covers are very identikit with vocal delivery that is on the shrill side. Where this album shines is with its original tracks - so it's a pity there wasn't more focus on more originals, less covers.

I was gonna cancel was an awful representation of the album and it was a terrible choice of single.to be fair kiss me once was kinda something different but different in a bad way.

To me, the only real duds on Kiss Me Once are I Was Gonna Cancel (this should've been the very last choice for a single), Les Sex and Beautiful. Everything else ranges from average what you'd expect from Kylie to truly wonderful, if out of place on the album.

Completely agree with this! All three of those are among the highlights of the album, and would've loved more in that kind of lane.

Sexercize to me though, while certainly not the best on KMO, really is pretty decent and, for me, went off on the tour *.*
